Alvin looked at himself in the mirror of the VIP bathroom in the private lounge where the manager took him to and was immediately surprised. After taking a bath and changing into the clothes which the manager had brought for him, he looked like a different person. His deep russet colored eyes matched his burgundy colored suit to create a powerful combination that awed even himself.

He strapped the grand Seiko brand watch on his wrist, and completed his exotic look. Indeed, the clothes make the man. The Alvin before him was one he had never seen before, his attire suited him perfectly, making him look like a billionaire CEO. And this was in a situation where he warned the manager to be conservative with money. Now imagine if he bought really expensive items worth millions, like Rolex Daytona. How would he look then? Indeed poverty is a bastard. No wonder everyone treats a broke man like trash.

He sighed and loosened one more button on his shirt, showing a clear view of his sexy Adam's apple, alongside a part of his chest which made him look incredibly sexy.

“Alvin, being wealthy really suits you. You should work even harder from now on.” He whispered, and sighed.

“Of course. Thank goodness you know. A handsome man who is not just wealthy but also powerful and influential. That's what I will call a full package. Whenever you finally reveal your new self, I will be eager to see the look of regret on your ex-wife's face. But you know what? You deserved that divorce. Women are naturally inclined towards having the finer things of life without working hard, that's why most of them prefer leaning on well to do men. But your previous self was unambitious, content with working in a bar shop and doing deliveries. Your previous self was non confrontational, which is not a nice trait for men. When the old man arranged a position for you and the rest of the family refused, why did you listen to Sonya’s nagging and miss the position or a high ranked executive? Alright, you don't have the strength for trouble and you don't want to drag what does not belong to you. Fine. But why didn't you try other companies? With your summa cum laude and masters degree, many companies would be scrambling to hire you. So, why did you give up so soon?”

The system’s voice seemed like it was scolding Alvin, making him immediately take a defensive stance.

“That's because…” He quickly began. But before he could come up with a rebuttal, the system cut him off again.

“What? It was because she blacklisted you. Is that what you want to say? Are you an idiot? It was because you were a coward. And you were afraid of causing problems in the family, letting everyone stomp over you. You disappointed that poor old man who had so much hope in you. You disappointed him way too much. How many groups is the Carter corporation big enough to control? In this city, there's at least seven corporations who don't bother to give face to Carters because they're way too big, bigger than the Carters. People like the KS group, do they need to pay attention to Carters? The young master of KS fired quite a few executives numerous times, and each time, he personally held a fair interview to personally select their replacements. As talented as you are, why didn't you go? What about the rest of the groups? You could have insisted on not handing over your salary, buy a decent suit, iron it and consistently go for interviews. With your intelligence, you would get hired. But no, you obediently fit into the box that a mere mortal shoved you into, living like a mongrel despite the fact that you're destined for greatness.”

“System, stop.” Alvin muttered, not wanting to listen to the system's criticisms anymore.

“The truth is always painful but you need to hear it anyway. You almost ruined your life because of your non-confrontational lifestyle. Probably because you're used to being poor and lowering your head before others. But right now, all that has to change. You are the face of the system, you can't continue lowering your head like a dog. You're a dragon now. Okay, I know you want to hide behind ‘my dream is to be a pop star nonsense’ to make excuses. But I'm in your mind now, I understand you more than you understand yourself. You could have managed the corporate job while earning money to chase your dreams. But you actually accepted the cruel fate that those bastards pushed you into, even though you were destined for greatness. Assuming the system was not aligned to your fate, you would have died. No woman wants an easily defeated man. You had that divorce coming, master.”

At this point, Alvin was practically boiling with anger. The system had stimulated him to boiling point.

“Master? Is that the way to talk to your master?” Alvin asked coldly.

“It's useless being angry. The only thing they did wrong is that they're innately wicked, greedy and selfish, especially your wife. She totally let down the meaning of the word ‘wife’ by not leaving you a way out. Stealing your music to please her lover while cheating, tricking you out of your hard earned money in the name of paying producers, even though she has more than you do. And most importantly, resorting to murder after wronging you, and not showing any sign of repentance, condemned them. This action validates your revenge, not that she wanted a divorce. But it's actually great. You're now the master of the system, women of her class are not qualified to stand beside you. Assuming she was faithful, ditching her would be impossible. Everything works together to bring you to your destiny. Or rather to the point of duty. It won't be an easy road.”

“Just shut up already.” Alvin snapped and left the bathroom, making his way back to the longue where he was meant to wait for Leah to finish shopping.

  • PERFECTIONIST

Murong Wuque stayed wide awake. His body didn’t need sleep to function. Cultivation had long since burned that mortal weakness from his bones, but he’d made it a habit because of Alvin. He couldn’t understand the reason Alvin kept blowing hot and cold, yanking him from scorching hope to arctic doubt until he questioned the very shape of his own heart. Unable to find rest, he stood, rolled the tension from his shoulders until his neck gave a low, brittle pop, and pulled his laptop from the workstation. An enormous backlog of commitments waited for him like a line of kneeling supplicants, and he began to deal with them one by one. After coming to Earth, he’d established businesses that grew like wildfire, becoming one of the most feared underground powers in less than a decade. He manufactured elixirs that could knit a shattered dantian overnight, miracle drugs that dragged the dying back by their collars, and clothes woven with defensive arrays so fine they could shrug off a snip

  • Aftermath

Ghost island, evil organization’s tier 1 base. The room was pitch black, with corpse soldiers dressed in black cloaks standing as sentinels. In the middle was a huge fiery pit, resembling a volcanic lake. A huge blood-red iron floated above the fiery crater, flaming, like it could devour the world with its heat. Despite the high temperature in the room caused by the unnatural volcanic pit, one couldn't help but feel a spine-deep shiver course through their bodies the moment they entered the room. From the volcanic pit, agonizing growls could be heard coming. A shadow cast beneath the volcanic lake. From under it, a creature clawed upwards, howling. The creature finally became visible. It was a man, but it looked nothing like one. Its body had been entirely mutated. Only the now useless organ dangling between its thigh was the indicator he used to be a man. Its skin was split apart, skin like red clay, cracks visible on it like parched ground. Its hair was nearly nonexistent, n

  • Seed of discord

Alvin stayed for a few more minutes to get a hold on his mind. Another few minutes were spent examining the secret compartment again for possible discrepancies. Finding none, he made his way outside to the bathroom. This time, the communication devices were locked in a computerized cabinet inside the hidden compartment. Then he made his way to the bathroom to clean up. Another thirty minutes was spent soaking in a tub of warm herbal water. The soothing herbs did nothing to calm the confusion and guilt in his heart. Confused because he couldn't determine if Murong Wuque was truly the enemy working against him. Guilty because doubting someone who had been nothing but good to you was despicable and traitorous. He groaned and slipped under the water, hoping the lack of air would finally shock his body into getting his shit together. Inside the room, Aurelio finally dozed off. Murong Wuque exhaled and set him down in his baby cot placed beside the adults’ bed. Layers of protective

  • Ally or enemy?

Back to the present. (Villa number seven) Alvin couldn't wrap his head around it. Murong Wuque was the one who loved him the most. Why would he betray him? What need did he see to stab him in the back? His love for Alvin was sincere, that much was visible, even to the blind. If the love wasn't sincere and strong enough, the soul tie wouldn't have formed between them. The soul tie aside, Murong Wuque had risked his own safety numerous times to help him out, save his life. If he really wanted to sabotage him, why not let the evil organization do it themselves? Lord Ning alone from the dark owl fortress would have been enough to deal with him. Why would Murong Wuque do everything to bring the dead him back to life, only to stab him in the back by going to his safe to steal info? “Could this be a misunderstanding?” His eyes went to Murong Wuque, who was smiling at Aurelio and playing with him, eyes relaxed and bright with joy. Alvin shook his head. Murong Wuque's shade of silv

  • Ridiculous and shameless requests

Su Ying shot up from her position on seeing the injured Yang Yang. “Fourth brother, what happened?” “We were ambushed by assasins targeting the energy crystals, artifacts and pills we were carrying.” An Si Feng answered, causing gasps, sighs and sharp inhales to follow in their little group. Su Ying's attention diverted to Zhang Xiao Wei who just landed, his face heavy. Ouyang Tingling shook her head. As expected, nothing good ever came out of the elders council. “What did the elders council want this time?” Su Mei asked, watching Zhang Xiao Wei sit cross legged on the floor. Yang Yang hair bristled on hearing elders council, his disappointment morphing into hatred. “They wanted me to hand over First brother's serpent punishing rod.” Zhang Chen punched the floor, his teeth giving off a harsh grating sound. “Those bastards!” Ouyang Tingling spat. “Because they discovered First brother can use the serpent punishing rod to communicate with us, they want to seize it. • never a good day

Less than an hour after Zhang Xiao Wei left, another commotion arose at the gates. This time louder. Su Mei, who was sitting with the others at Jade Pavillion, frowned. Ouyang Tingling sighed, her head turning in the direction of the gates. “What could be the problem this time?” Su Ying chuckled, and shook her head. “It's laughable. Pests that didn't dare to squeak when First brother was around. Now they won't stop flying around.” Zhang Chen leaned back, resting his weight against a pillar. “They think it would be a case of when the commander dies, the soldiers scatter. Funny. Another commander will rise to the mandate. We have to cultivate even harder and expand our network. If it didn't happen to First brother, we wouldn't have known how wicked and conniving they were.” The commotion got louder. Zhang Chen cursed out, frustrated, and stood up. “Let me check it out.” Xi Meng Yao, Murong Wuque’s female disciple who acts as the housekeeper, equally came out from the dining courty
