Hand over the chaos heart

Li Tian's eyes searched the thousands of faces surrounding him until they found the only one that mattered.

"...Mo Yun?"

His voice cracked.

For a heartbeat, the battlefield disappeared. He saw two hungry boys stealing steamed buns from the sect kitchens, two disciples training until their hands bled, two sworn brothers who had promised to stand back-to-back against the world.

Now Mo Yun stood beneath the banner of the Heavenly Accord Sect with a sword in his hand, its tip aimed at Li Tian's heart.

"The Chaos Heart can't remain with you," Mo Yun said, refusing to meet his eyes. "I did what was necessary for the sect."

Li Tian stared at him.

"So it was you." The words were barely louder than a whisper.

Around them, thousands of Heavenly Accord disciples stood in perfect formation, white-and-jade robes fluttering beneath a sky that seemed ready to collapse.

The sky darkened over the valley of Heaven's Ruin Gorge. Jagged black cliffs towered overhead, and a cold wind swept silver dust across the barren land.

Above them floated Tang Xiu, Second Elder of the Heavenly Accord Sect, his white-and-gold robes shimmering as spiritual pressure rolled from him in endless waves.

"I hope the stories about your strength aren't exaggerated, Li Tian."

Li Tian ignored him.His eyes never left Mo Yun.

"You sold me for the Chaos Heart?"

Mo Yun's jaw tightened.

"I chose the sect."

A bitter laugh escaped Li Tian.

"So that's what eleven years are worth."

The air suddenly grew heavier. Space distorted above the crater before tearing open into a pitch-black rift.

A figure stepped through, and the valley fell silent. Every disciple immediately dropped to one knee.

"Greetings, First Elder!"

Xiao Feng emerged from the darkness with his hands behind his back. His mere presence bent the air.

His gaze settled on Li Tian.

"You possess the Chaos Heart." His voice carried no anger "Surrender it. I guarantee your safe passage."

Blood trickled from the corner of Li Tian's mouth as Xiao Feng's aura descended like an invisible mountain, making every breath a struggle.

Li Tian smiled anyway.

"Safe passage?"

His laugh echoed across Heaven's Ruin Gorge.

"You brought two elders, thousands of elite disciples, and my closest friend." He slowly spread his arms. "Yet you still speak of peace."

Silence answered him.

Tang Xiu finally sighed.

"The Chaos Heart is beyond your control. If it awakens completely, countless innocents will die. Give it to us. We will contain it."

Li Tian looked around the valley. Thousands of disciples. Two legendary elders. One brother who refused to meet his eyes.

"So this..." he murmured, "...is the justice of the Heavenly Accord Sect."

His smile vanished.

"Come."

Tang Xiu raised one hand.

"Seal the battlefield."

BOOM!

Thousands of disciples stomped forward in perfect unison. The valley trembled.

Countless streams of jade spiritual energy erupted from their palms and shot toward the heavens.

"Heaven Locking Barrier!"

The pillars intertwined into an enormous dome that swallowed the entire crater. The surrounding spiritual energy instantly froze.

The Chaos Heart inside Li Tian's chest began to pulse violently.

Thump.

Thump.

Thump.

Heat spreads through every vein in his body.

Mo Yun drew his sword. "The barrier is complete." His voice shook ever so slightly. "Advance."

Thousands of disciples charged.

Li Tian moved first. The earth exploded beneath his feet. He vanished.

A deafening boom followed as he appeared in the center of the advancing army. His fist slammed into the ground.

Mountain-Crushing Fist.

The valley erupted. Stone burst upward like volcanic fire. Dozens of disciples were thrown into the air as shattered rock and broken weapons scattered across the battlefield.

The formation bent, but it did not break.

"Archers!"

Hundreds of spiritual bows rose together. The sky disappeared behind a storm of glowing arrows.

Li Tian inhaled. A silver ripple spread around him. The air became smooth as polished glass.

Divine Mirror Flow.

The arrows struck the invisible barrier, and turned. Hundreds of glowing bolts reversed direction. Screams echoed through the valley as disciples fell beneath their own attack.

Tang Xiu's expression darkened.

"Enough."

A golden light exploded around him as he descended from the heavens.

"Heaven-Falling Palm!"

A gigantic hand of spiritual energy crashed toward Li Tian. The impact shattered the ground.

Tian crossed both arms. His knees buckled as blood burst from his lips.

Then lightning flashed beside him as Mo Yun's sword pierced toward Li Tian's blind side.

Twin Dragon Strike.

Li Tian twisted just enough to save his life. The blade missed his heart, but violet lightning ripped across his ribs. The smell of burning flesh filled the air.

That single mistake was all Xiao Feng needed. The First Elder appeared before him without a sound. His fingers curled.

Void-Tearing Claw.

Darkness folded around Li Tian's legs.

CRACK!

Bone shattered. Pain exploded through his body.

Before he could scream, Tang Xiu's palm struck his chest.

The world vanished.

Li Tian's body blasted across Heaven's Ruin Gorge before crashing into the cliffside with an earth-shaking explosion. Dust swallowed everything.

Deep inside the shattered mountain, Li Tian coughed blood onto a broken stone. His left leg was crushed, and his ribs refused to move.Every breath felt like swallowing knives.

"...No..." He forced trembling fingers against the rock. "...Not like this."

He dragged himself from the rubble. One knee hit the ground. Blood dripped onto the cracked earth.

Then... the smoke began to move against the wind. The temperature across the entire valley suddenly plummeted.
