Damien stood at the intersection of West Street and Pearl Avenue, the sun beginning to flicker on around him. His mind wandered to the little shoe-shine boy, wondering who actually got the card and activated it.

At that moment a Bentley Mulsanne glided to a stop before him, its midnight paint reflecting the lights.

immediately.The back door opened, and Ryan emerged, straightening his designer suit with practiced importance. undermining the pain he was in.

Immediately jaw clenched involuntarily at the sight of Damien – the same man who had humiliated him hours ago, who had sent him flying through crates like a ragdoll.

His hands trembled with barely suppressed rage, and he shoved them deep into his pockets to hide it. The memory of the warehouse scene made his broken ribs throb with both pain and shame.
