Chapter two

Upon collecting all the gifts and saying his goodbye to everyone.

He turned and walked out the clinic compound when he saw three black luxury vehicles parked outside the clinic.

At that moment Damien adjusted his travel bag, still in through of who must have parked those luxury vehicle in front of the clinic when two figures emerged from the car, a young woman in an elegant azure dress and a man in a tailored black suit that probably cost more than the clinic's monthly earnings. “Excuse me,”

the woman called out, her voice carrying a musical quality despite its underlying tension.

“We're looking for Master Raymond. Is he here?”

Her eyes held a desperate hope.

“Master Raymond left the clinic two years ago.”

Upon hearing what Damien just said the man's face twisted in frustration.

“Two years?”

His eyes widened. Pulling out an ornate jade card from his inner pocket, he threw it on the ground angrily.

“Then what's the point of this?”

The card spun through the air before landing in the dust with a soft thud.

“Brother!”

The woman gasped, but couldn't hide her own disappointment of not getting to meet Master Raymond. “Grandfather is dying, Sophia,”

The man's voice cracked slightly.

“And this...”

He gestured at the card on the ground,

“This was supposed to be our miracle. The great Master Raymond guaranteed treatment, and he left this shit clinic two years ago, what a joke!”

Sophia's perfectly maintained composure finally cracked.

“We've tried everything,”

She whispered, more to herself than to Damien.

“The Imperial Hospital's best physicians. The Chen family's ancestral healers. Even that famous doctor from the Western Mountains and states, but to no avail.”

She lifted her gaze to the clinic with its herbs drying in the windows.

“This card... it was our last hope.”

At that moment Damien stared at the jade card glinting in the morning dust. The intricate medical runes carved into its surface, one of only ten such cards his master had ever created. Each stroke told a story of Master Raymond's sacred promise to treat them when the time comes.

He then walked closer to the card and picked it up.

“You know Master Raymond? Please, can you tell us where to give him, and I promise to reward you handsomely, even if it's a million I –”

“I don't know his current location,” Damien cut in, watching her hope dim.

“But as his disciple, and seeing the promise he made on the card, I can honor his words on his behalf. Who is the patient?”

“Our grandfather,”

She started, but her brother stepped between them, his expensive suit rustling with the sharp movement.

“Listen here,”

he sneered.

“if you think you can exploit our situation–”

At that moment a harsh, rattling cough echoed from the black car behind them.

Damian's eyes narrowed, his entire demeanor shifting. with his years of medical training crystallized into perfect clarity, he knows what was wrong immediately.

“Listen to me,”

He said pointing at the car.

“Your grandfather's meridians are blocked,”

He continued with quiet precision.

“The fluid in his lungs has a distinct Pearl-Drop consistency. His qi is stagnating specifically in the third and sixth channels, causing pressure on the heart chamber. The Wind and Water elements are in severe imbalance, leading to...”

immediately Sophia hand flew to her mouth.

“That's... that's exactly what the Imperial doctors said! How could you possibly–”

“Lucky guess,”

her brother scoffed.

“I guess grandfather condition is so simple and anyone could–”

“In precisely three hours and forty-two minutes,”

Damein continued calmly, pulling out a simple business card with only his contact written on it.

“He will develop copper-flavored phlegm and begin to convulse violently, leading to difficulty breathing. The pain will concentrate under his right rib cage, and his body temperature will spike to exactly 40.7 degrees, and when all of these happen, just know your grandfather has less than two hours to leave.”

He held out the card between two fingers.

“When these symptoms appear, you can decide whether to call me or not.”

Dona collected the card with shaking hands.

Damien turned and was about to walk away then the man yelled at Damien.

“Who... who do you think you are?”

Damien turned away, his shadow stretching long in the morning sun. “Just someone keeping his master's promise.”

He paused, looking back over his shoulder.

“Or perhaps just a lucky guesser. The choice to believe is yours.”

At that moment Sophia's phone rang and immediately she brought out her phone only to see it was her father.

Immediately she answered the call.

“Father? Yes... yes!”

Sophia's eyes lit up as she clutched her phone.

“Dr.Kyle will see Grandfather? We're coming right away!”

She turned to her brother, her joy replacing her earlier despair.

“One of the top 5 physicians in the country, Dr Kyle has agreed to treat Grandfather... he will be fine now!”

At that moment both of them started walking towards their car.

when the man stops and faces Damien.

Then he spat on the floor.

“For trying to play us for a fool, I will be coming back to you.”

He then walked into his car and their convoy of luxury cars pulled away.

**

Not long after the Golden Estate rose before Damien like a mountain of glass and steel, a far cry from the modest stone mansions he remembered from his childhood.

Towering residential palaces stretched toward the clouds, their windows reflecting the midday sun like thousands of gleaming eyes.

Security checkpoints had replaced the old garden paths, and automated gates now stood where elderly guards once dozed in the shade of ancient willows.

“Many years ago,”

Damien murmured to himself, his simple healer's robes drawing curious glances from passing luxury vehicles.

He remembered running through these streets as a boy back then.

Damien finally arrived at Serenity Villa which was located at the other side of the estate.

“You!”

A sharp voice cut through the opulent silence.

Damien then turned to the direction of the voice.

There she stood - War Goddess Serenity, resplendent in her military uniform adorned with gleaming medals. Her beauty was legendary, but her eyes held only ice as they fell upon Damien simple healer's robes.

“How dare you show your face here?”

she spat, each word dripping with disdain.

“Did my letter not make it clear enough for your dump healer mind to comprehend?”

However Damian maintained his calm, hands clasped behind his back.

“I received your letter.”

“Then you're even more foolish than I imagined,”

she laughed coldly.

“Look at yourself - a nobody from nowhere, thinking he can marry the War Goddess? Do you know how many noble houses and top families seek alliance with me? What could a village doctor possibly offer?”

“I didn't come here to see you, I'm here to see your grandfather, because only him can cancel the engagement.”

Damien stated simply.

The change was instant. serenity's face contorted with fury, her hand flying to the customized golden pistol at her hip.

“You... you DARE?”

Her voice shook with rage.

“My grandfather lies in a coma, and you have the audacity to make such a request?”

Her eyes narrowed dangerously. “Now I understand - you heard about his condition, didn't you? and you came running here because you knew he couldn't wake up to cancel the engagement himself!”

His voice, calm but firm, cut through the tense silence.“Like I said before… it was an earthquake,” Damien said evenly. “I was just trying to arrange my stuffs. That’s why I didn’t open the door sooner.”Then he stepped forward slightly, his presence alone enough to quiet their whispers. There was something in his tone measured, controlled that demanded they stop prying.“As you can see, I’m perfectly fine,” he continued, locking eyes with each of them in turn. “So there’s no need to worry.”Jessica, who had been trembling moments ago, bit her lip nervously and looked down at her hands. Uncle Bernard, though still suspicious, held his tongue. Deborah’s lips parted slightly, as if she wanted to ask more questions, but Damien’s calm stare silenced her before she could speak.“You should all go and rest,” Damien added, softer now but no less firm. “Tomorrow… is goin

Instead, he kept his hand firmly pressed against the wood, his brows furrowed in quiet suspicion. Deep down, he knew Damien’s words didn’t match his tone. There was something there something buried beneath the calm reply Damien had given. He’s hiding something, Bernard thought to himself. I know that boy’s voice. Something’s wrong in there.Even as the thought settled in his chest, Deborah stood beside him, her hands tightly clasped together in prayer. Her lips moved without pause, a whisper barely audible over the faint creak of the house settling after the earlier tremors.“Please, God… let nothing happen to him,” she muttered, her eyes shut tightly. “He’s the only one left who can protect us. If he falls, we have nothing. We have no one.”She didn’t say it aloud, but the fear clawing at her chest was simple: without Damien, their survival in this spiraling chaos was impo

It wasn’t wild or chaotic—it was controlled, precise, almost as if it belonged there all along. His heart skipped as realization sank in, the ring wasn’t gone, the ring had merged with him.He could feel it, its power coursing through his veins, rewriting him from the inside out. And then he noticed something else. His Flash Step, the technique that had always required strict focus, hours of Cultivating and enough Spiritual energy to push forward even a single level, it now hummed within him effortlessly. Damien’s eyes widened, disbelief flooding through him as he tested it internally.Level Seventy? No. Not even close. It was beyond that it was level Five hundred. At that moment his breath caught in his throat. That number shouldn’t even exist, not in any record, not in any training manual. It was the kind of mastery only whispered about in myths, the kind of power that separated mortals from legends.“Fiv

It had been passed down as their most sacred treasure, a burden as much as it was a legacy, keeping it for it true master, they had died for it. At that moment, Damien’s hands froze completely in mid‑seal. The faint hum of energy that had just begun to build around him dissipated instantly, vanishing into silence. His breathing steadied, but his eyes narrowed sharply as the realization struck him like a heavy blade to the chest.“If I go through with this now… it means it will empty me.”The thought echoed in his head, heavy and relentless. He knew what upgrading Flash Step to Level Seventy would demand. It wasn’t just a simple refinement of skill, it was an intense cultivation breakthrough, one that would draw upon every ounce of his spiritual energy to force his body and spirit into synchronization with the technique’s new limits. And therein lay the problem, If he used all of his energy for cultivation tonight, by tomorrow, the day of the meeting his reserves wouldn’t recover in time. At best, he would regain thirty percent. Maybe forty, if he pushed his recovery techniques to their limit. But even that wouldn’t be enough.
