The entire exchange happened in the blink of an eye.

No one had time to react.

“Y-You... you!”

The female officer flushed with humiliation and rage.

Andrew’s large hand was pressing directly against her chest.

The unfamiliar sensation shot through her body, leaving her nearly breathless.

The male officer shot to his feet, drew his service pistol, and aimed it at Andrew.

“Put the gun down now! Don’t do anything stupid!”

Andrew clicked his tongue.

“If I actually wanted to hurt anyone, do you really think you’d have time to point a gun at my head?”

He spoke almost under his breath as he slowly straightened.

Then, in full view of everyone, he dismantled the pistol in his hand. With a few swift movements, the weapon came apart into multiple components that scattered across the floor.

The young woman, the officers, and the couple stared at him in stunned silence.

In broad daylight, this man had disarmed a police officer, turned her own weapon against her, and then taken it apart with his bare hands.

Who the hell was he?

The female officer hurriedly stood and straightened her uniform. After regaining her composure, she looked at Andrew with righteous fury.

“You are now suspected of assaulting a law enforcement officer. You’re coming to the precinct with me.”

She pulled out a pair of handcuffs and strode toward him.

“Go ahead.”

Andrew pursed his lips indifferently and held out both hands.

Click.

Without hesitation, she cuffed him.

The young woman looked at Andrew anxiously. She wanted to do something, but there was nothing she could do. She could only watch helplessly as the female officer escorted him away.

At the male officer’s prompting, she absentmindedly continued giving her statement.

Outside the station, in the parking lot, the female officer shoved Andrew into the back seat of a patrol car. Then she raised her radio.

“Dispatch, this is Scarlett Spears. I’ve detained a suspect at the train station for assaulting a law enforcement officer. Requesting immediate backup.”

“Copy that. Nearby units are on their way.”

Andrew listened in silence.

So her name was Scarlett Spears.

Nice name.

And she has killer curves.

He could still remember the sensation in his palm—firm yet soft.

Definitely top-tier.

Scarlett had no idea what he was thinking.

“You’re unlucky to have fallen into my hands,” she said coldly.

“Kid?” Andrew rolled his eyes. “I turned twenty-five this year. You’re the one who looks like she barely graduated from high school.”

To Andrew, twenty-five was an important dividing line. Once a man passed it, thirty no longer seemed far away. Before that, he could still consider himself young.

“You—!”

Scarlett glared at him, then gave up.

There was no point arguing with someone like him.

“Where’s my luggage?” Andrew suddenly asked. “Why didn’t you bring it?”

“It’s just some beat-up sack. Who would want your junk?”

Before she could finish speaking, Andrew abruptly climbed out of the back seat and sprinted toward the station.

The handcuffs, somehow unlocked, lay quietly on the seat behind him.

“Stop!”

Fortunately, Scarlett reacted quickly and immediately gave chase.

The two raced through the crowded station.

Andrew planted one hand on a railing and vaulted over it in a single fluid motion, drawing countless startled looks.

Scarlett refused to be outdone.

She had once held the police academy’s fastest two-kilometer running record. There was no way she would let Andrew disappear before her eyes.

She vaulted the railing just as cleanly, her movements sharp and athletic.

“Stop running!”

“Only an idiot would stop.”

Andrew muttered under his breath.

Then he spotted the police office ahead.

The male officer was walking out with the middle-aged couple.

Andrew slammed on the brakes and vanished into the crowd.

Scarlett stopped and looked around, trying to locate him.

“Scarlett, what happened?” the male officer asked when he noticed her.

“That bastard escaped! I’m going to kill him!”

She spat out the words and ran off again.

The male officer stared after her, dumbfounded. Then he shook his head with a helpless smile and escorted the couple away.

The young woman was the last to leave the police office.

She pulled her suitcase with her left hand and carried Andrew’s large woven sack in her right, looking around for him.

“Thanks. You even brought my luggage out for me.”

Andrew suddenly appeared behind her.

“Ah!”

Startled, she spun around and slapped at him.

A large hand gently caught her wrist.

Only then did she recognize Andrew. At some point, he had changed into a different set of clothes, which was why she had nearly failed to recognize him.

“Here, give it to me. I need to go.”

Andrew took the sack and slung it over his shoulder.

At that moment, Scarlett’s voice rang out again.

Andrew ducked his head and bolted.

The young woman watched him disappear. Her lips parted as if she wanted to say something, but it was already too late.

Scarlett chased him for nearly half an hour. Only after she completely lost sight of him did she finally stop.

She stomped her foot furiously.

“Damn you! I’ll catch you sooner or later!”

In a remote alley, Andrew took a deep breath and sat down against the wall.

“How does that crazy woman have so much stamina?”

He opened the woven sack in front of him.

Inside were several sets of clothes, two urns, and an oddly shaped jade pendant.

“Just wait a little longer. I’ll take you home soon.”

Andrew sighed as he looked at the urns.

He took out the jade pendant, fastened it around his neck, and stood up.

His true reason for coming to Riverside City was to bring the ashes of his former comrades home and find a way to look after their families.

Andrew had grown up as an orphan.

After his final mission, grief had driven him to leave the military. From that point on, he wandered from place to place like a homeless man.

Not long ago, his former superiors had finally tracked him down. They asked him for one favor: bring the ashes of two fallen comrades back to their families.

That was why he had come to Riverside City.

“I remember Craig’s family lives at The Riverstone Residences. I’ll go there first.”

Having made up his mind, Andrew stepped out of the alley.

At that exact moment, four or five burly men rushed toward him.

Each carried a steel pipe.

They forced Andrew back into the alley and blocked his escape.

“Who are you supposed to be?” Andrew asked calmly. “I don’t remember offending any of you.”

“You already forgot what happened on the train?” a muscular man with a scorpion tattoo on his face asked coldly.

“Oh. You’re with that couple.” Andrew put down the sack. “So you came for revenge?”

He rolled his shoulders and flexed his fingers.

It had been a long time since he had fought seriously.

This was the perfect chance to see whether he still had his old instincts.

“Brothers, cripple all five of his limbs!” the tattooed man roared.

He swung his steel pipe and charged first.

The others followed immediately, raising their weapons and rushing Andrew from every direction.

“Too weak.”

Andrew shook his head.

He lunged forward in an extremely low stance, planted one hand against the ground, and swept out his right leg.

The tattooed man was knocked off his feet.

Without pausing, Andrew drove an uppercut into another man’s stomach.

The force of the blow folded the man in half.

His features twisted in agony, cold sweat pouring down his face as he staggered backward and collapsed to the ground, screaming.

A steel pipe came crashing toward Andrew.

His gaze sharpened.

He caught the attacker’s wrists with both hands, wrenched the weapon free, and swung it back into the man’s head.

In less than a minute, three men were lying on the ground, howling in pain.

The remaining two froze in terror.

They dropped their steel pipes and fled without looking back, no longer caring whether their companions lived or died.

A passerby witnessed the scene and immediately pulled out a phone to call the police.

So, brother, who exactly are you?”“Who I am doesn’t matter.” Andrew shrugged. “What matters is that you’re here for money, right?”He had already figured out the situation.Bonnie Hunt’s company might be doing fairly well, but when it came to connections and handling people, she was clearly lacking. Otherwise, a bunch of street thugs would never have dared to come here again and again making trouble. If she had the right connections, one phone call would have brought people over to deal with this mess.Instead, after all this commotion, not a single person had stepped forward.Bonnie always carried herself with a cold, distant air. The moment the woman stepped inside, she noticed a strange man in the house. More importantly, there was something about him that immediately rubbed her the wrong way, and her expression turned guarded.“Who are you?”“He’s my brother-in-law’s old army buddy. His name is Andrew Allen,” Joan Hunt answered with a smile before Andrew even had the chance to speak.“Hmph.”The woman gave a cold snort and slowly sat down on the sofa. There was an aloof, elegant air about her, like a wealthy society wife who was used to looking down on others. Unfortunately, the bits of grass and weeds still clinging to her clothes completely ruined the effect.Andrew hated being looked at with that kind of disdain. But the moment he remembered how flustered she had looked earlier, he couldn’t help smiling to himself.“Why are you smiling?” Joan noticed it immediately. She had to admit that Andrew actually looked rather handsome when he smiled. “Did you think of something funny? Come on, share it with us.”A

I’d rather not.”Andrew answered honestly. He had spent the entire day traveling and had not even had the chance to wash up. The last thing he wanted was to dirty someone else’s home.Bonnie slowly raised her head. Her beautiful eyes were swollen and red, and tears continued to stream down her face.
