"It functions basically like a game– those of you who played games while growing up will understand of course." General Bush continued,

Some people nodded in agreement but the same couldn't be said for James because while his mates played games and enjoyed childhood, he scrubbed floors and washed curtains, his only experience with games was whenever he came into Ryan's room to serve his food while the latter would be sitting on the floor playing games with his friends.

James clenched his fists and gritted his teeth at the unfortunate memory, 'If this 'system' should give me powers then a lot of people will p...'

"To see your system, think about 'status' and observe the stats that have been placed before you ."

'So that's it?' James thought, 'Status.'

'Wow...' James thought as the translucent blue screen appeared in front of him, 'Strength, 10? My stats are so low.ಥ‿ಥ'

James knew that he didn't know anything about this TLAG program but one thing he was highly suspicious of was that his system wasn't normal.

Firstly, it was premium– in a normal sense, premium services are usually available to special people and for it to be on his system meant that maybe he was special. He could remember seeing a similar message when he awoke.

'Intense mental and emotional trauma? Is that the reason?' James thought as his eyes went on to look at some other attributes on the screen.

Unfortunately, the store and inventory were locked but the only free things were his skills; Omniscience, Skill Acquisition Technique, Telepathy, and Telekinesis.

'What are they?'

As if the system was responding to his thoughts, the skill tab selected itself and opened.

'Wha... everything is restricted by my low level, so much for having a premium system ...' James thought ruefully, 'I don't see how this can help me in a battle against some of these other guys.'

He looked around and he saw that some of the prisoners there had materialized fire, ice, vegetation, and many other elements on their hands with the help of their system. He also noticed that no one could see the other's system interface,

'Convenient.' he thought,

"I think that's enough," General Bush pressed a button and everybody's powers were suddenly disrupted.

James looked around and saw the crushed expressions on the faces of the prisoners. He didn't need anyone to tell him that General Bush had deactivated their systems but he couldn't fathom why his own screen was still floating in front of him.

As if the system was responding to his thoughts, a message appeared in front of him.

'Oh?' James' lips curved into a smile as he read the words.

"Now that you understand what I mean by the TLAG program, you will all stay here and undergo training for the next few months until you all are strong enough to take on threats..." General Bush finished, "Any questions?"

James raised his hand slowly, there was a question that had been at the back of his mind since they came in.

"Yes?" The General Bush drawled condescendingly,

"If this is a program that can turn normal humans into superhumans, why wasn't it done on the privileged members of the society? Like, aren't they the ones who usually get special access to stuff like this?"

General Bush smiled like a teacher who just discovered a bright student, "That's a very smart question but I'm sure you have already assumed the answer..."

James managed to maintain a steady gaze with the general which earned him a small smirk from the man.

"This is a new experiment and we don't know all the side effects yet. So you all are just guinea pigs for this experiment and not all of you will survive the stress of having a system inside your cranium. It is only when we have tested you all and confirmed that it is safe, that is only when we can use it on others."

"Ok, sir," James said and brought his face down to hide the anger in it.

'These damned people! Do they dare use humans like us as guinea pigs for their experiment? They think they're smart huh? Don't worry, just wait till I get the hang of this system, I'm gonna wipe that smug smirk out of his face. I swear!'

"Any other question?" General Bush asked and no one stirred, it seemed no one had any more questions. They were absolutely satisfied with the notion of being used as guinea pigs without freedom for an experiment just for power.

"Well, the first thing we'll be doing today is to evaluate your titles and powers..." General Bush continued, "...you will all be called one by one into this room where you shall display the powers of your system. Doing so will enable us to train you all better so wait here, once you hear your name, you come upstairs."

James was running so fast that everything in his sight just blurred past and all he could think about was the different ways he would take his revenge on everyone who tossed him aside.'Just you wait Ryan, you'll pay for all that you've done to me. It's too bad Dad and your mom are no longer alive to receive their payback"He was still running when he saw the airport in the distance. He slowed down and his hands instinctively reached for the pouch of money in his pocket. He wouldn't forget to repay their kindness in the near future."What?" He exclaimed as his Omniscience began to warn him of incoming danger."But there's no one around here for miles unless..." "He's just a man who saved our lives..." Rodney shrugged, "he's not from around here so he's looking for a way to go back. I offered to accommodate him for the night as gratitude for saving our lives."Octavius scowled at Rodney and turned to James with a look of displeasure on his face.Rodney noticed this look of displeasure on Octavius' face and asked him, "What's the matter?"Octavius turned back to Rodney without taking the scowl away from his face and replied, "I don't like him. He smells like trouble. You should send him away tonight."Rodney was slightly annoyed by this statement so he grabbed Octavius by his sleeve and pulled him closer, "I don't care whether you like him or not, he saved our lives during hunting and that's all that matters. If the best we can do for him at this moment is to offer him temporary accommodation then we'll do that. If you're not comfortable with that then you can go and hide your head under a rock."Octavius shrugged Rodney's hand off his sleeve

James exclaimed and kicked the snow that was on the floor. "Shit!" • 13 Far From Home

The bear growled at James and continued circling him. It seemed it was hesitating to attack him because he was stronger than the rest, it was looking for a suitable opening to launch its attack."I see..." James nodded slowly. "You can't reply to me... Well, no matter what your reply is, I won't accept it, that's because nothing can justify what you did here."With that last statement, James jumped toward the bear and the bear used that opportunity to jump towards him too.James was naturally faster than the bear, so it had already lost before the fight even began. James sailed through the air like a rocket and punched the bear under its jaw.The punch was so hard that the sound of cracking bone filled the air and no one needed to be told that James had cracked the skull of a monster bear with just his fists. The impact of James' punch did not end at the skull, it also delivered intense trauma to the bear's brain as the force from the punch threw it into the sky.The hunters couldn't
