Chapter 2 : Getting a job

Arthur walked around looking for a job. With his overweight body, he had a bit of trouble walking; even after just a short walk, he already felt tired, and his breathing had become irregular. Still, he refused to give up on finding a job—he had to earn money quickly to pay off his debt.

He wouldn’t let himself keep getting fatter; otherwise, he’d die a ridiculous death from difficulty breathing. This body tired him easily, and all he wanted to do was sleep without doing anything at all.

In his real life, he wasn’t a lazy person! He always relied on himself.

“In seven days, all the clans will be gathered, and one of them will be chosen by that magical sword. If only I were the one chosen—but that’s impossible!”

From the comic Arthur had read, the main character was chosen because of his kindness and because he was truly powerful. He possessed five different elemental powers. That man truly deserved that sword.

Could he obtain that magical sword?

His life would surely change because of that sword. He didn’t want to live as a useless person trapped in this fat body. He had already given up his original life and lost his $1,000 salary.

His most important goal right now was to get rid of this fat body so he could function properly. Exercise, drink weight-loss potions, and eat according to the rules. His body will surely become slim and perfectly sculpted.

Arthur stopped in his tracks when someone threw a medium-sized rock at his buttocks. It hurt quite a bit, even though his body was covered in fat. He looked at the person who had thrown the rock—three men were staring at him with contempt.

“Did you forget to give us our cut? We’ve been waiting for a while now,” growled one of the men.

Arthur glared at them angrily. He was already struggling to find money to pay off his debts, and these three were only adding to his problems. Even if he had money, he wouldn’t give it to them!

“I don’t have any money! There’s no cut for the three of you.”

They looked angry at Arthur’s words. This was the first time the fat man had tried to stand up to them, even though he was usually obedient and gave them the money they demanded every day.

“You dare to defy us? What can you possibly do? If you don’t have any money, steal it from your mother like you always do.”

Arthur grew even angrier; it was because of these three that the fat man had become so cruel to his own mother.

He wouldn’t let his money go to waste. It was also possible that he was deep in debt because of the three men standing in front of him.

“Why aren’t you gone yet? Hurry up and go steal your mother’s money. Don’t make us angry! Or we’ll hang you from a big tree for days on end.”

Arthur clutched his aching head. A memory flashed through his mind. It turned out that the fat man was often tortured by them.

‘The comic doesn’t go into much detail about this fat man, since he’s just a minor character who isn’t particularly important to the story.’

One of the men struck Arthur with a wooden plank, making his head spin even more.

Arthur tried to endure the pain. He couldn’t just give up and let the three of them keep bullying him.

With all his might, Arthur snatched the wooden plank and swung it at the three of them. “I’m not giving you three any more money—you don’t deserve it. And I won’t let any of you bully me!” Arthur kept hitting them hard; luckily, these three men were just as powerless as he was. They could barely defend themselves. Their abilities weren’t much different from his.

It was just that the original owner of this body was too stupid, choosing not to fight back and letting himself be bullied.

“Damn you, Arthur! How dare you hit us. Just wait and see what happens!”

The three of them walked away from Arthur, not expecting that the fat man would now dare to fight back. But of course, the three of them wouldn’t just sit idly by; they’d seek help to get their revenge.

Watching those three good-for-nothings walk away, Arthur then tossed the wooden plank aside. He had to go back to looking for a job to make money right away. He even ignored the pain from the blow—he didn’t want that old woman to be in danger because she hadn’t been able to pay off her debt by the agreed-upon deadline.

Arthur walked into a luxurious house after reading a flyer. They were looking for a salesperson, so without a second thought, he applied on the spot. In his previous life, he’d been a master of sales strategies—his company had always turned a profit.

At first, Arthur wasn’t hired because of his unattractive appearance—especially since he was overweight. However, Arthur tried to convince them that he could sell hundreds of kilograms of meat and fruit. The boss finally agreed and gave Arthur a chance, but if he failed even once, there would be no second chance.

Arthur had to sell at least 50 kilograms of meat and 100 kilograms of fruit per day. Without a second thought, Arthur agreed to the terms. His sales skills shouldn’t have faded, even though he was no longer in the same body.

That evening, Arthur returned to the house, feeling happy that he’d met his sales targets.

“I didn’t expect it—you have excellent sales skills. You’re now a permanent employee, and here’s your pay for today.” The man handed Arthur five gold coins.

“Isn’t this a bit much?” Arthur asked, surprised that his boss would give him five gold coins.

“It’s fine—you’ve made me quite happy. I’ve been running at a loss all this time.”

Arthur smiled slightly, then accepted the gold coins with a sense of joy. He then excused himself to go home, since it was already very late at night.

Those five gold coins could be used to pay off his debt, and if there was any left over, he’d use it for the old woman’s needs. After all, she was his mother now.

“That was pretty exhausting! But it’s okay—I’ll just think of it as a workout. Who knows, maybe I’ll lose some weight right away.”

Without Arthur realizing it, several people were watching him.

“Don’t let that fat man pay off his debt, as per Master’s orders. Master only wants healthy internal organs to boost his power.”
