The cold wind blew across the concrete plaza of Zenith Pharmaceuticals. Federal agents swarmed the entrance. They carried plastic bins filled with hard drives. Julian ignored them. His focus was entirely on the young woman in handcuffs.

Arthur Pendelton walked beside Julian. The corporate lawyer opened his leather briefcase.

"Agent Reynolds," Pendelton announced loudly. "You are detaining Doctor Elena Rostova without a formal indictment. She is a clinical researcher. Holding her violates her civil liberties."

A tall federal agent turned around. He rested his hand on his utility belt. "She is the primary architect of a fraudulent drug that just tanked the city economy. Bail is two million dollars. Step back."

"I do not carry loose change," Pendelton smiled. He handed a stack of legal documents to the agent. "My client just wired two million dollars in clean reserve funds to the federal courthouse registry. The transaction cleared thirty seconds ago."

Agent Reynolds stared at the documents. He keyed his radio. He listened to the response. He pulled out a small silver key.

"Uncuff her," Agent Reynolds barked.

The heavy steel cuffs fell to the concrete. Doctor Elena Rostova rubbed her bruised wrists. Her white laboratory coat was stained with coffee. She looked at Pendelton, then at Julian.

"I do not know who you are," Elena whispered. Her voice shook with exhaustion. "But you are wasting your money. Apex Medica owns the federal medical board. They destroyed my life work. There is nothing left to save."

Julian stepped closer. The federal agents instinctively backed away.

"Apex Medica forged the liver toxicity reports, Doctor Rostova," Julian said softly. "They bribed your clinical director to testify against you. They built a flawless lie."

Elena gasped. Her eyes widened in absolute shock. "How do you know about the forged toxicity reports? The federal agents do not even know what they are looking for."

"I know the drug works perfectly," Julian continued. His voice was calm. "And I know you backed up the uncorrupted telemetry data onto a physical drive. You hid that drive behind the cooling vents in the sub basement server room exactly three minutes before the federal raid."

Elena stopped breathing. She stared at Julian. She had not told anyone about the backup drive.

"I am giving you unlimited funding," Julian stated. "Retrieve that drive. Submit the real data directly to the emergency federal review board tonight. I am going to make you the Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Pharmaceuticals by tomorrow morning."

Elena hesitated for a fraction of a second. She nodded. Hope replaced her terror.

Julian walked back to his luxury sedan. Pendelton followed him. They sat inside the quiet cabin. Pendelton immediately opened his laptop.

"The market is a bloodbath," Pendelton reported. His fingers flew across the keyboard. "Zenith is officially delisted. It trades over the counter at one penny a share. Institutional whales are dumping everything."

"Excellent," Julian leaned back against the leather seat. "Create a blind shell corporation. Name it Aegis Holdings. I want fifty one percent of all available Zenith stock purchased within the next hour."

Pendelton looked at Julian in disbelief. "Fifty one percent? Sir, you are purchasing a massive federal liability. The Department of Justice will seize the assets. This is financial suicide."

"Doctor Rostova will prove the drug is viable," Julian stated firmly. "The federal board will reverse their decision. Listen to me carefully. I want you to specifically target the private brokerage accounts of Arthur Sterling and Marcus Vance."

Pendelton frowned. "The local aristocrats? They lost their entire fifty million dollar fortune this morning. They are bankrupt."

"They are desperate," Julian corrected him. "Contact their private brokers right now. Offer them a bulk buyout through Aegis Holdings. Give them exactly five hundred thousand dollars for their entire combined Zenith portfolio."

"Five hundred thousand?" Pendelton asked. "You could buy their shares for fifty thousand right now. Why offer them a premium? They will think you are a complete idiot."

"That is exactly what I want them to think," Julian smiled coldly. "Do it."

Miles away from the financial district, the sprawling Sterling family mansion was entirely silent. Arthur Sterling paced frantically across the marble floor. Chloe sat on the stairs and wept. Marcus Vance stared blankly at the wall.

"Silas is going to harvest our organs," Chloe sobbed. "We have absolutely nothing left."

The heavy antique telephone rang loudly.

Arthur lunged for the receiver. "Yes? Speak quickly."

Arthur listened. His eyes widened. The color returned to his pale face. "Are you serious? Are the funds clean? Yes. Sell it. Sell every single share right now."

Arthur slammed the phone down. He let out a manic laugh.

"Daddy?" Chloe stood up. "What happened?"

"We are not dead yet," Arthur shouted in triumph. "Some absolute moron operating a dummy shell corporation just offered to buy our worthless Zenith portfolio. They wired five hundred thousand dollars in clean cash into our secondary accounts."

Marcus snapped out of his trance. He jumped up. The old arrogant spark returned to his eyes. "Half a million? Clean cash?"

"It is totally untraceable," Arthur cheered. "The idiots overpaid us by a massive margin. We outsmarted the market, Marcus. We are too big to fail."

Chloe shrieked with joy. "We are saved. We can run to Europe and hide from Julian and Silas."

"Are you insane?" Marcus scoffed. The fear vanished entirely. Toxic delusion replaced it. "Half a million dollars is nothing in Europe. We stay right here. We rebuild."

"Marcus is correct," Arthur nodded. "We need a new billionaire backer. We still have our famous names. We just need a new target."

"The Mayor Charity Gala is tonight," Chloe gasped. "Every major hedge fund manager in the state will be there."

"Exactly," Marcus smiled cruelly. "We take this money. We buy a VIP table at the Gala. We secure a massive bridge loan. We buy our debt back from that mutilated stray dog before he even realizes what hit him."

Across the city, Julian stood on a velvet pedestal in a high end tailor shop. The tailor adjusted the charcoal silk fabric of a bespoke suit.

The mahogany door opened. Pendelton walked in holding a tablet.

"The acquisition is complete," Pendelton announced. "Aegis Holdings now owns fifty one percent of Zenith Pharmaceuticals. You are the absolute majority shareholder. Total cost was just under four million dollars."

"And Doctor Rostova?" Julian asked.

"She retrieved the physical drive flawlessly," Pendelton replied. "She is currently uploading the uncorrupted clinical trials directly to the emergency federal medical review board."

Julian focused his intent. He willed the power deep within his skull to awaken. His left eye flared with a brilliant golden light.

[Asset Target: Zenith Pharmaceuticals Valuation]

[Current Status: Emergency Federal Review Initiated]

[Catalyst Event: Federal Board Verification of Real Data. Immediate Reversal of Drug Rejection.]

[Time of Public Announcement: Exactly Eight O Clock Tonight]

[Location of Announcement: Mayor Charity Gala Main Stage]

[Estimated Market Cap Increase: Ten Thousand Percent]

Julian blinked. The golden text dissolved.

"Eight o clock tonight," Julian said calmly.

Pendelton stared at him. "How could you possibly know the exact time the federal board will reach a verdict?"

"Because the universe owes me a massive debt," Julian smiled. "And it pays on a strict schedule."

The tailor returned carrying a small velvet box. Inside rested a perfectly crafted black silk eyepatch. The tailor gently applied the eyepatch over the empty socket.

Julian looked at his reflection. The stray dog from the basement was entirely dead. Staring back at him was a cold titan of industry. The stark black silk contrasted sharply with his pale skin. His remaining eye looked like a glowing ember.

"Pendelton," Julian said. He adjusted the cuffs of his new suit. "Call the Mayor office immediately."

"We are attending the Charity Gala?" Pendelton asked.

"We are buying the Charity Gala," Julian replied. "I want the title sponsorship. I want my name proudly displayed on the main stage podium. And I want you to ensure that Arthur Sterling, Chloe Sterling, and Marcus Vance are seated at the absolute front row table."

Pendelton grinned sharply. "They will be there, Boss. I tracked the money we wired them. They just spent two hundred thousand of it to buy a VIP table at that exact event."

Julian walked out of the fitting room. His footsteps echoed with heavy authority. "Perfect. They truly think they found a lifeline. Tonight I am going to stand on that stage. I am going to watch their fragile little world shatter.”

Crystal chandeliers cast a warm light over the gathered elite. A string quartet played a soft melody in the corner. The federal authorities were circling his corporate shell companies, but he believed his primary problem was solved."The federal investigators will find nothing linking me to the Zenith collapse," Thorne assured his board of directors. The wealthy men and women stood around him, sipping their drinks with nervous energy. "I scrubbed the servers. I isolated the toxic assets. The market will recover by Monday morning.""Are you certain the Chairman is eliminated, Victor?" a senior board member asked quietly. The man checked the exits of the ballroom. "Cut the primary power grid to the southern sector," Elias Vance whispered into his encrypted radio. The assassin stood in the service corridor of the Zenith corporate tower. "I gave you the vault key. I gave you five hundred pounds of solid gold. Take the shot before he ruins anything else.""Assassination requires patience, Victor," Elias replied smoothly. The fluorescent lights overhead flickered with a low, annoying hum. Chloe sat in a hard plastic chair, her wrists still bound by heavy steel handcuffs."You cannot take that," Chloe shrieked. She lunged forward, but the short chain of the handcuffs jerked her back. "That is my personal property. Victor Thorne signed that check himself. It is a legal payment for consulting services.""It is a payment for stolen intellectual property," Miller countered. He placed the check into a plastic evidence bag. "The Apex Medica accounts were frozen three hours ago. Even if I gave this back to you, no bank in the world would honor it. This paper is worth exactly zero dollars."Chloe felt a violent wave of nausea hit her stomach. The heat of the room was stifling. She looked at her fat
