"Speak up, you liar! What did you intend to gain with this act of yours?" Henry questioned him.
"Why did you lie about your limbs?" Tracy's father fired his question as well. "How could you deceive my daughter!?" Lucian was baffled by the accusations. "I can’t believe I allowed my daughter to get married to a man like you!" her mother joined in, with hate in her words. Lucian frowned at her words. All they did was label him as a bad human being, but their daughter, the architect of this event, wasn’t even spared a glance, not even once, for cheating on him. Or perhaps, her family knew about the affair... Lucian thought. After all, it would make perfect sense because she was not confronted once about her extramarital affair with another man. "That’s—" "I should have known better than to rethink my decision about our relationship. You really are a worthless man!" Tracy snapped. "How dare you lie to me all these years about being crippled?! What gave you the right to do this to me?" Lucian tightened his gaze. "You also lied to me, remember? Who knows how long you’ve been having an affair with this man?" His gaze quickly locked on Henry. "Stop it! Just stop it, Lucian. You’ve proven to me you are nothing but cheap scum!" She finished signing the papers. "I am so glad I’ll be free of you." Once done, she threw the document at him. "There! Take it and get lost! I never want to see you again." Lucian's gaze fell on the document as it made its hard landing in front of him before switching it back to Tracy, who was now holding hands with Henry. "Calling me a liar without proof isn’t the right thing to do," he retorted. "My legs were hurt beyond saving." "So how are you walking now? Black magic?" Tracy frowned. "No, I got a cure that helped me... a cure that—" "This man's stories never end!" Henry interrupted, his voice loud. "Now he’s bringing up an expensive medicine that he bought to treat himself." "I’m not lying about it," Lucian retorted, "And you keep your dirty mouth shut! How are you involved in any of this?" Just then, Tracy stepped forward, pointing fingers at him. "No! You keep your mouth shut! I’ve heard just about enough lies from you." "I’m not lying, Tracy. Believe me when I say I got the cure for my limbs the very day that building accident happened," he tried explaining further. "An incident that you should have died in?" Tracy rolled her eyes. "I’m starting to think you planned that one as well." "We should get him arrested," someone suggested, a man who stood next to Tracy’s father. "He’s a criminal! He lied to us for so many years. He deserves to be behind bars." "Oh no," Henry walked up to him. "No, Uncle, that won’t be necessary. Involving the cops would only draw unnecessary attention. We don’t need that." Henry felt that involving the cops might lead to further investigations which might prove Lucian to be right. "Look, Lucian," Tracy joined her palms together, "I’m begging you to get out of this household and never come back. You’ve done enough, and I don’t need anything from you." Lucian didn’t say anything. He stood there, allowing every bit of her words to hit him like glass. "Consider this an act of mercy. I won’t get you arrested. I don’t need mud on my family’s name because of someone like you." Lucian couldn’t believe the woman standing before him was actually his wife. Her words were uttered without any self-thought. Despite seeing he could stand again, it didn’t move her at all. "Come, Henry, we still have a party to prepare for tonight." She turned and left the living room with Henry. Even her family members dispersed as she did. Even with that, Lucian could still hear them, saying hurtful things about him, but he shrugged it off. So those two will be at the ball tonight, he looked away, completely irritated, knowing he wouldn’t be able to stand being in a party with the both of them in it. He left just as fast, and on his way out, he received a call. He hesitated for a few moments before answering. "Good day, Lucian." Lucian stood startled for a moment. He was going to ask who the person was, but the voice became lucid enough. At that moment, he recognized the voice of his caller. "Oh! It’s you! I’m so sorry, I didn’t know." "I understand, but that’s not the case. I need to talk to you urgently, Lucian. You know where to find me." "Yes, of course, I’ll be there." Lucian held a smile before he ended the call and made yet another call. Some time later, Lucian arrived at a new residence. A mansion twice the size of the grand structure of Tracy’s Family's Mansion. He came up to the gate only to be opposed by a guard. "And who are you supposed to be?" the guard questioned him. "I’m here to see your boss," Lucian told him. "Weren’t you informed?" "I don’t need to be informed. People like you only come here and beg for money. I’m tired of dealing with people like you every day. Now get lost before I beat you to a pulp!" Lucian hummed for a moment. He took his phone out immediately and made a phone call, lodging a complaint about the guard before ending the call. The guard stood dumbfounded when he witnessed it. He wanted to ask who had just been called—his boss? Or who? But before he could even attempt it, he received a phone call. "You’re fired." His phone fell immediately. Did this person just contact my boss?! Lucian didn’t waste time hanging around and went in. He was greeted by wealth. The grand structure was too magnificent to take his eyes off. But he knew far too well that his own was greater than this. There, he came into a room after so many turns and directions from the servants. "Good day, Gerald," Lucian greeted the man who was sitting behind the desk. "Lucian! How wonderful it is to see you again." The man got up and exchanged handshakes with him. He didn’t fail to notice Lucian’s legs either. "Ha-ah! Lucian can walk again! Please, have a seat." He gestured. "I’m so happy you could make it." “And I'm glad to see you're still president of A+ City.” They both laughed it off. "I’m so glad to see you," Gerald spoke, his gaze calm and respectful. "I’m still indebted to you for saving me years ago from an assassination that would have taken my life. I’m grateful." "Don’t mention it please. It's in the past." Lucian replied with a small chuckle Gerald gestured to the lady in the room to offer them some drinks. "You are kind.” The man began, “I called you here, Lucian, because I need a favor from you." "A favor? I'm quite busy though." Lucian scratched his chin. The man chuckled at Lucian. “I promise not to waste your time.” "It’s about my daughter, Monica," he started. "You remember her, right?" Lucian nodded, sipping the tea he was offered. “Yes, I remember you have a daughter, not sure I have met her before but yes, what’s the matter?" "I need you to escort her to the grand ball that will be held tonight."

"I'd do it and even more. I owe you one, remember?"Seeing Lucian's quizzical expression, she explained, "You helped me back then, ten years ago. He heaved a sigh, slightly embarrassed at being reminded of his old good works."That's what friends do, country girl."She shot him a grin before excusing herself. As much as Lucian was relieved to be free from the scene earlier, a part of him wanted to call his driver and leave the event. But he didn’t want to disappoint Amelia. The attention of half the guests was still fixed on him, even though it

The clock seemed to be ticking very fast. One minute passed. Then two, and three, and five, and seven minutes passed.Blake's face had transformed into a smug grin. The guests were beginning to murmur loudly about Lucian being a liar and a fraud.Amelia's brow remained raised. She was confident that Lucian was innocent. When ten minutes passed, Blake clapped his hands."We've watched him for ten minutes but nothing has happened. How long was the corn supposed to take before transforming?" he asked, his grin wide. The servant who brought the corn responded, "Five minutes, sir."Blake laughed scornfully. "You hear that?" he asked Lucian. "Five minutes. It's been double the time and yet nothing happened."Lucian was silent as he tried to regain calmness. He didn't care what the corn said. He knew what he saw."Miss Amelia," Blake continued, turning to Amelia who was silent in confusion."I believe we had a deal. Either the corn changes colour or Lucian is thrown out."Amelia turned to Lu

What if she had drunk it?""Of course she wouldn't have drunk it. Can't you see that the point is for him to be her hero?"Their words made Lucian boil. He was irritated by his presence."Are you out of your mind?! What did you do that for?" he yelled, causing the heads of almost all the guests to turn in their direction again.Seeing that the attention of the guests was on them, Blake barely let Lucian speak before shouting more."You just keep following my sister around. Why can't you understand that she is over you?! She wants nothing to do with you!"Lucian felt a tinge of embarrassment as murmurs sparked up among the crowd again.Tracy tugged at Blake's sleeves, wanting him to lower his voice. She knew there had to be a reason for Lucian's actions. However, Blake wasn't hearing her out.
