"I am so sorry, but I can't," Lucian responded.

Gerald's eyes widened. "Why? Is there something wrong?"

"Absolutely not, but the timing is very bad. I have so much to do at the moment. And believe me, I do want to fulfill this wish, but the timing just isn't right."

Gerald sighed. He really needed someone to escort his daughter to the grand ball.

But he only trusted one man to do it, and that man was the one sitting right in front of him.

Lucian, on the other hand, had his own reasons. He knew too well that his ex-wife and her lover would be there. He didn't want to face them again, especially Henry, whose only purpose for existing was just to taunt him, and ridicule him.

The president massaged his brows, Lucian was his only option. “There's a reward, and I'm sure you would be very interested.”

Lucian raised his brows before a smile appeared on his face, “It depends, Gerald”

The president reached into his drawer and brought a Crystal via that contained a turquoise potion.

The moment Lucian gaze met the vial, he felt a spark within him, urging him to accept Gerald's task.

"If you can escort my daughter to the grand ball tonight, I promise this will be yours."

Lucian hummed a bit, he knew he couldn't reject it, why? he needed it, his entire body screamed for that vial.

There's no other option left.

"Fine." Lucian finally said and added. "I will escort her to the grand ball tonight."

Gerald smiled, "I knew you wouldn't resist, this potion is one of few that rarely comes into the hand of men, but I have my ways of getting them."

"I see." Lucian gaze focused on the Vial. "I won't let you down then."

Gerald places the vial back into his drawer.

"Come around seven for her, and yes, please be on time."

Lucian nodded.

With that, he headed out after exchanging a handshake with Gerald.

He was on his way out when someone came in. Gerald's daughter. Her gaze was completely lost In what she was typing on her phone.

"Monica..." Gerald called her off her phone. "I am glad you are here."

Her eyes fell on Lucian, at first she held a disgusted sight at him. "Uhm, who is he?"

"Him..." Gerald paused before forcing a chuckle. "Pardon me, Lucian, I forgot you two haven't met before."

"It's okay Gerald." Lucian simply said,

"Dear, this is Lucian, the man that saved my life years ago, I talked a lot about him back then." He said, "And Lucian, this is my daughter, Monica."

"It's a pleasure to meet you." Lucian offered his hands but she ignored it.

"Yeah, nice to meet you." She then moved past him and sat in front of her father's desk.

"Forgive my daughter, she's a little bit--"

Lucian cuts him short with a chuckle, "Oh no it's alright, I will be on my way now.

With that, he headed out, his mind completely fixed on getting that vial.

But just as he shut the door behind him, he heard Monica say to her father

“So why was that guard here?”

“A guard? Dear…”

Lucian didn't wait around to hear anymore, he had better things to attend to, such as; getting that crystal vial.

Later that night, Lucian returned to the President's home in a car that had the A+ insignia on it. The President sent it to him for their event tonight.

He even came well dressed this time. He checked his watch, he was just a few minutes early.

There he received a call from the President.

"Good evening to you Gerald," He replied with a firm smile. "Yes, I'm right outside."

The call ended. And he patiently waited for Monica after the president confirmed she was on her way.

And when it seemed like she wouldn't come, the gates opened up with the marvellous beauty stepping out.

Lucian got out and opened up the backseat door for her like the gentleman he is.

She got in, no greetings exchanged whatsoever, just total silence.

Lucian didn’t wait around after that. He got in as well and drove them to their designated location.

Monica kept her gaze on her phone while Lucian's fingers focused on the wheel.

Then a soft tune came up, Lucian had turned it on. Monica noticed it but ignored it and kept pressing her phone like any lady would.

As the car casually paced, Lucian felt an oddly strange sensation, one he hadn't felt in a long time.

He tried to keep an eye out for anything, but then, a black jeep crossed their path with extreme aggression, forcing Lucian to hit the brakes.

Men in black uniforms marched out. They weren’t his. They were a different breed.

"Hey! Get out now!" one of them shouted, holding a gun and threatening to shoot.

Lucian was startled for a moment. The doors were forced open and the two of them were dragged out.

"Take the lady. Kill the man. We only need her." Lucian heard them say.

They were only after the President's daughter and they were surely going to kill him, which meant it was an ambush.

"What? Let me go! Do you know who I am?”

Monica struggled against the men.

"Shut up, girl!” The leader pointed the barrel of his gun at Monica's head, daring her to talk again.

He then turned and saw that his men had held Lucian in place.

He wasn’t struggling. He just fixed his gaze on them.

"Kill the man and let’s get out of here," he ordered, but his comrade couldn’t pull the trigger.

"You couldn’t kill me even if you wanted to." Lucian smirked and kicked the man ahead. He spun and brought the other two holding him to the ground.

The other three rushed at him, but they couldn’t get a proper hit. Lucian rendered their movements and attacks useless, shoving them in different directions.

Their leader, already terrified, started stumbling backward. His trembling hand reached out for his gun.

"Who the hell are you?" the man questioned, fear enveloping him.

Lucian only walked past him, releasing his spiritual pressure, and the man fell, blood trailing down his nostrils.

Monica was amazed by this.

"Please get in, or we are going to be late," Lucian simply requested as he opened the door for her.

She got in without saying a word, but deep down, she couldn’t help but admire him.

Why wouldn’t she? He had just saved her life.

Moments later, they arrived at the ball. Monica was still thrilled by the kind of man that was standing next to her as they walked in.

They were greeted by different people. Along the way, Lucian bumped into someone.

The last person he wanted to see.

"You!" Tracy frowned. "What are you doing here?"

Her gaze immediately met Monica. "And who is this supposed to be?"

Lucian didn’t say anything.

"Wait, don’t tell me." She walked over to Monica. "Is she supposed to be your lover too? So not only did you lie about your legs, but you also cheated on me with her? You are a very disgusting man!"

Lucian wanted to ignore her and look away, but her voice drew a lot of attention.

"Lucian, who is this woman?" Monica asked.

A sigh escaped his lips. "Yes, she’s my... ex-wife. I wanted to avoid her today, but it seems like I can't.”

"Oh..." Monica exclaimed, looking back at Tracy.

Tracy frowned immediately. She didn’t like this woman. Her hate for Lucian only grew deeper because Monica was far prettier and more attractive than her.

How could he have possibly cheated on me with her?!

Her heart squeezed as she compared herself with Monica, failing to compete with her in any area.

"What’s going on here?" Someone stepped in, not just anyone, but the man born to taunt Lucian had come into their midst.
