Johnny woke up to the sound of chatter.

His head was pounding. His mouth tasted like rust. The world came back to him in blurry fragments—concrete floor, shadows moving, muffled laughter, the faint buzz of a generator somewhere nearby. A dull ringing filled his ears, like the aftermath of an explosion.

When he tried to move, he realized his hands were tied behind a metal chair. His legs, too. The ropes cut into his wrists every time he struggled.

Then he saw her.

Across from him, Isabella was tied to another chair, her wrists bound, her mouth gagged with a strip of dirty cloth. Her eyes were wide with fear—but when she saw Johnny’s gaze land on her, she managed the smallest nod, her way of saying ‘I’m okay’.

Johnny exhaled slowly, forcing himself to stay calm.

“Johnny Steele! The man! The myth! The legend!” a voice called out, playful and venomous at once.

Johnny lifted his head, squinting at the figure walking out from behind the crowd of men. He didn’t recognize the voice—it wasn’t

  • Chapter 83: You will destroy me?

“You will destroy me?”Darius King threw his head back and laughed—loud, sharp, theatrical. “You hear that?” he said to no one in particular, spreading his arms. “Did everyone hear that?”“He is going to destroy me?” he said, spreading his arms as if presenting a comedian to the room. The laughter didn’t stay with him. It spread.A ripple first—confused chuckles from people who didn’t know why they were laughing but understood they were supposed to. Then louder. Freer. Someone near the printers snorted. Another person actually clapped once before catching themselves.Phones came out. Subtle at first. Then less subtle.Johnny stood where he was.Still. Straight. Hands at his sides.A statue dropped into the middle of a circus.“You’ll pay.” Johnny said again It didn’t sound dramatic. It didn’t rise. It didn’t shake. That was why the nearest people leaned in without realizing it.Darius blinked once. “I’m sorry?”Johnny continued, voice level. “You’ll eat your words. You’ll beg. And

  • Chapter 82: Darius

“If it isn’t my star intern,” the voice continued, closer now, savoring each word, “Johnny Steele.”That name. Spoken like a joke that never stopped being funny.Johnny’s shoulders stiffened first. Then his jaw. A quiet tightening, like metal being drawn slowly under pressure. He kept his gaze forward, eyes fixed on nothing in particular, as if the air itself required his full attention. He already knew who it was. When he finally turned, Darius King was exactly as memory betrayed him to be—and worse.Sharp suit. Charcoal gray, tailored to arrogance. The kind of fabric that never wrinkled because its owner never rushed. A faint, expensive scent clung to him, subtle enough to suggest power rather than announce it. His posture was loose, casual, as if the building belonged to him by default. As if people were furniture. And on his left hand, catching the light just briefly enough to register before disappearing again—a ring.Gold. Simple. Wedding band.Darius smiled. Not wide. Not for

  • Chapter 81: Strike Two

Johnny didn’t move.He simply stood there beneath her, Emily Blake perched above him, her heel still hovering where his obedience was supposed to be.He looked at her the way one looks at a stranger wearing a familiar face—detached, dissecting, unreadable. As if his eyes were stripping her down past the makeup, past the posture, past the performance… and finding nothing worth respecting. Her legs—crossed, elevated, pointed at his face—became the trigger. The past slammed into him like a wave he’d thought couldn’t reach him anymore.Internship days. Her voice. Her heels. Her cruelty. He remembered everything. He remembered how she entered the company after him — clueless, unskilled, lazy — and within three weeks was somehow supervising him. Not because of effort. Not because of talent. Because the higher-ups liked how she looked in a pencil skirt. He remembered doing her tasks every night. He remembered her forwarding her entire workload to him with a casual, “Babe, be a dear and fini

  • Chapter 79: Kiss It

"What the hell do you mean by you are in charge?!" A ripple went through Emily. She covered it with a smirk.“You think you can talk back to me?” she scoffed. “Do you know who I am?”Johnny didn’t answer. But Emily did—she answered herself, loudly, proudly, for the whole office to hear.“I am now the assistant head of the real estate department,” she announced, tapping her badge. “Seven departments in the entire company, and I’m second-in-command of one. And you—” she jabbed a finger into his chest, “are nothing. A fired intern who couldn’t even bring coffee correctly.”Her voice sharpened, turning venomous.“You know how I got here? I earned it.”Johnny raised a brow.Lie.Everyone knew.Even Emily knew everyone knew. She slept her way up the hierarchy like it was a ladder made of bedsheets. And she flaunted it with zero shame.“And now,” she continued, leaning in so close he could feel her breath, “you’re standing here like you belong. You’re not even supposed to be in the building

  • Chapter 78: Emily Blake

Emily Blake didn’t just appear. She arrived—like a scent, like a temperature shift, like trouble walking on expensive heels.Perfect hair.Perfect posture.Perfect poison in human form.Johnny had barely taken ten steps into the real-estate department floor when her voice sliced through the air, sharp and smug and dripping with that familiar, poisonous sweetness.“Well, well… look who crawled back in.”He stopped.Around him, heads turned. Phones lowered. Chairs creaked. The whole department swelled with a hungry kind of silence—half curiosity, half anticipation. Office drama was oxygen in this place, and Emily Blake was their favorite wildfire.Johnny turned slowly. And there she was.Emily leaned against one of the glass desks, one hip cocked out in a pose that was half model, half predator. Her blouse was tight, deliberately unbuttoned one button too far. Her pencil skirt hugged her hips like it was stitched directly to her skin. Her lipstick was a glossy, sinful red. Her perfum
