“There’s nothing I can do again, Mr. Arturo,” the Attorney General said, his voice plain but firm, his face betraying no emotion.

This was three days after Arturo visited him and he promised to do something about Andrew's case, but Arturo never heard from him again.

So, Arturo came back to still press his demand. At least, the AG owed him that favor, if not as a friend, but for past favors Arturo has granted him in the past.

Arturo blinked slowly, as if trying to give himself time to digest the words he just heard.

He wasn’t sure he understood. In fact, he was sure he didn’t want to.

He shifted slightly in his chair, his eyes now fixed directly on the man before him.

“What do you mean there’s nothing you can do?” he asked, his voice low but laced with disbelief. “You’re the Attorney General. You can reopen the case. You can push for a retrial, or even help with a special appeal.”

The Attorney General exhaled heavily, like someone who had rehearsed this response many times in his h

The knock on the glass was sharp, demanding. Jalen’s head turned slowly, and his chest tightened when he saw her again. Elena. That smile, that audacity. She leaned slightly forward, her polished nails drumming lightly on his window. He pressed the button, lowering the glass halfway.“That was not a way to treat a lady,” Elena said, her hands resting on her hips. The firmness in her tone was the kind that expected no argument.Jalen frowned faintly. “Um… Ms. Foster, I thought I already apologized for what happened back there.” His voice was low, cautious, confused. But deep inside, he was beginning to sense where this was heading.“Not enough,” she countered smoothly, tilting her head. “And not Ms. Foster. It’s Lena. Call me Lena.” She stretched the word as though it were a song she wanted him to repeat.Jalen sighed, his fingers tightening on the steering wheel. “Okay. Lena. What else do you want?”Elena rolled her tongue slowly, her eyes sparkling with amusement. “Gush! Are you al

  • Chapter 150: The Knock

The convoy of trucks and workers at the site created a restless hum in the background as Jalen stepped down from his SUV. He adjusted the sleeve of his jacket, his face set in calm determination though his body still carried the weakness of the past weeks. His assistant walked quickly by his side, clutching files, her heels clicking against the gravel floor.“Mr. Adesina, welcome,” the project manager greeted warmly, hard hat tucked under his arm. His eyes were bright with the eagerness of a man who wanted to please.Jalen gave him a firm handshake. His gaze shifted instantly to the structure rising above them. Eighteen floors of steel, concrete and glass stretched proudly against the sky. Workers shouted to one another as metal clanked and cranes shifted heavy beams. The manager explained with pride, “Sir, everything is on schedule. Less than four months from now, we’ll hand this building over, complete and shining.”Jalen nodded slowly, his chest tightening with cautious relief.

  • Chapter 149: Seeds of Doubt

The gate creaked as Jalen’s car rolled into the compound. Evening shadows stretched across the driveway, swallowing the last traces of daylight. He parked quietly, his body weary, but his mind heavier than his wounds.Inside, the living room light glowed dimly. Aisha’s soft laughter drifted from the kitchen where she was speaking with Joy. For a moment, Jalen let himself breathe, holding on to that fragile sound of normalcy. But it didn’t last. The front door opened again. Bose stepped in, her wrapper tied neatly, her face stern as though she had come with a mission. Her eyes scanned the room, landing briefly on Jalen before sweeping coldly toward the kitchen.Aisha emerged, wiping her hands with a napkin, smiling politely. “Good evening, ma.”Bose’s lips pressed into a thin line. “Evening,” she muttered, her tone stiff, her gaze sharp like glass. The air thickened instantly. Jalen sat on the couch, watching the exchange without a word. Joy stood too quickly, sensing the storm.“M

  • Chapter 148: The Weight of Betrayal

The morning sun streamed weakly through the curtains, soft rays crawling across the bed where Jalen lay. His eyes opened slowly, his chest rising and falling with a deliberate rhythm, as though he had forced his body to remember strength. The night before had left him restless, but now something in his spirit told him it was time to return fully to work. He could not remain crippled by wounds, physical or emotional. The memory of Mr. Kene’s confession was still fresh in his mind. The man had stood in that conference room trembling, his face wet with sweat despite the air conditioner, before admitting he had betrayed the company for Tiana. Jalen had dismissed him immediately, no second thought. Loyalty once broken had no place in Adesins Corporation. But even as Kene left, shamefaced, Jalen felt no triumph. The damage had already been done.By mid-morning, Jalen dressed carefully. His hands still moved slower than they used to, but determination carried him through. The mirror refl

  • Chapter 147: A Mother’s Fear

Bose sat stiffly in the living room, her arms folded tight across her chest. Joy was beside her on the sofa, scrolling through her phone, but Bose’s eyes were fixed on the empty television screen. The silence in the house was heavy, save for the faint hum of the refrigerator in the kitchen. Her lips moved, whispering words that carried both anger and worry. “That girl… that girl will be the end of my son,” she muttered, her voice sharp, almost as if she was spitting the words. “She came from nowhere, and suddenly she is everything to him. Love has blinded Jalen.” Joy looked up slowly, catching the bitterness in her mother’s face. “Mum, you’re talking about Aisha again,” she said quietly, but Bose did not respond. Her thoughts were elsewhere, running circles around the same fear that had gripped her heart since she first noticed how deeply Jalen had fallen for the woman. Later that night, the house was quiet. Joy had gone upstairs, leaving Bose alone. The lamps cast a

  • Chapter 146: The Mole

“Ladies and gentlemen,” Jalen began, tugging a small smile that did not quite touch his eyes. His voice carried across the wide conference room, calm but sharp enough to demand silence. “This meeting is majorly to appreciate your tireless efforts so far for the growth of this company.”A cheer followed his words. Some clapped lightly, others exchanged excited glances. For a company that had faced storms these past weeks, a word of appreciation from the top felt like fresh water to dry soil. Aisha, seated at his right, glanced at him with quiet satisfaction. Jalen returned her look with a faint nod, though his heart was far heavier than his smile.Fiona, standing by the far corner with her notepad, raised her hand. “Order, please,” she called. Slowly, the noise ebbed, and the staff returned their eyes to their boss.Jalen leaned forward, clasping his hands on the table. “We will start with something simple. Your names and the positions you hold. Please, one after the other.”The sta
