Before either of them could get smug or start throwing more smug grins across the table because of the privilege she had given, Zora rolled her eyes and lifted the stopwatch slightly, letting the soft ticking echo between them like a countdown to truth or disaster.

“But,” she said, her voice dipping with warning, “if you ask something you’re not supposed to know about… I won’t answer.”

Abigail blinked, lips parting slightly. “What does that even mean?”

Zora tilted her head and gave a thin smile.

“It means don’t be greedy.”

Abigail glanced at Kai for a moment, his arms crossed, eyes blank like he didn’t care but jaw twitching just slightly and then back at Zora. She sighed and nodded.

“Fine,” she muttered. “I’m confused as hell anyway. I just hope I get some answers to this strange shit I’ve been thrown into.”

Zora’s brows lifted, almost impressed.

“Well said,” she mused. “Go ahead then. Ask.”

Abigail inhaled deeply, trying to piece her thoughts together. She gripped the edge of the ta

  • 227: His Rage.

The air around them split apart as Kai moved, and in that instant, a suffocating bloodlust rolled off him, heavy and sharp enough to choke anyone with a weaker spine. Zora, who had been lounging comfortably with Abigail in her arms, narrowed her eyes the moment that killing intent flared. Her usual smirk slipped for just a second, her brow furrowing slightly. It wasn’t the raw power that bothered her, it was the madness dripping from it, the unrestrained hunger for destruction that made it clear Kai was no longer fighting as a man but as something older, and dangerous. Still, she didn’t say anything, she simply tilted her head, stroked Abigail’s hair idly, and continued to watch like a queen in her private theater.Caleb, however, wasn’t cowed by that wave of hatred. No, instead he laughed. His own aura spiked violently, his body vibrating with power as he unleashed everything he had, the ground beneath his feet shattering from the surge. For every ounce of Kai’s rage, Caleb countere

  • 226: Awakened.

Kai shook his head violently, eyes wide, breath uneven and body trembling as he faced Zora again. “I can’t,” he muttered, voice barely audible over the sound of Abigail’s body being slammed against the ground, over the gut-wrenching thud of Caleb’s fist cracking her ribs. “I can’t do that…”Zora, still standing with her arms folded, her expression unreadable, tilted her head lazily and replied, “Then she’ll die.” Her voice was calm, cruelly calm, like she wasn’t talking about a girl being beaten to death right in front of them but something as trivial as weather. “And I won’t be the one to save her. You will. Or you’ll watch her bleed out while doing nothing.”Kai’s head snapped back toward Abigail, just in time to see her scream as Caleb’s elbow drove into her spine. She coughed blood, her body folding over like a ragdoll as Caleb grabbed her hair, yanked her up again and growled something he probably thought sounded badass.Kai didn’t even hear the words anymore. All he saw was Abi

  • 225: Watch Her Die.

Caleb staggered backwards, crashing into the floor with a grunt as if someone had yanked the ground from beneath him.Abigail stood there, frozen, her chest heaving, she hadn’t expected that, not even remotely. Her hands trembled, fingers curled into fists that had somehow just sent a man flying. What… What just happened?Caleb groaned, then pushed himself up, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth. His eyes blazed with fury. “You little piece of..!”He didn’t even finish as he lunged towards Abigail who moved too. This time, not with panic or flailing limbs but with speed, and precision. Her arms lifted and blocked his incoming punch. Her foot pivoted on instinct, and her other hand slammed into his ribs, then another strike to his shoulder, then a spinning kick, so fast it blurred and cracked across his jaw.Caleb flew again, tumbling across the dirt like a broken toy and Zora, seated lazily on a rock nearby with one leg draped over the other, popped a snack into her mouth and

  • 224: “If You Really Care…”

Caleb’s fists slammed down, one after the other, coated in blood and fury. The sound wasn’t even human anymore. It was raw, sickening thuds of bone meeting flesh, the sharp crack of something giving way, the wet gasp Kai made every time his ribs shifted under the weight of it. And through it all, Caleb’s voice never stopped screaming. His rage poured out with every strike, his hatred painting the entire battlefield red.“You! You took everything!” he bellowed, his face twisted with madness, knuckles split open as he gripped Kai’s collar and dragged his body halfway up, only to slam it back down into the dust again. “Your father, your damn father! He took her! And she gave birth to you?! A useless, pathetic, weak thing?! That’s what she chose?! That’s what she loved?!”Another punch landed, then another and another.Kai didn’t fight back, he couldn’t.His body was crumpled, half-buried in dirt, blood trickling from his lip, his brow, even his ears now. His once-pristine clothes were no

  • 223 : Your Mother Was Mine.

Kai was no longer fighting, he was enduring.Bruised, bleeding, bent and his body slumped halfway inside a crater, his arms twitching weakly under him as if they still wanted to fight, even though his bones disagreed. His once-clean shirt was a torn mess hanging from his shoulders, his pants scuffed with dried blood and ripped at the knees. Every breath came like fire in his throat, and dust coated his skin. His hair stuck to his forehead, his nose looked off and his lips were split. Still… he was on his knees, breathing but barely.Abigail stood a little distance away, hands clasped tightly over her chest, eyes wide in horror. Her lips trembled. “Zora… shouldn’t we...?”“Nope,” Zora said flatly, popping another meat into her mouth. “He’s still breathing. That means he’s still got more to learn.”“But he...he’s going to die at this rate!”Zora didn’t even blink. “Mmm, yeah. Maybe. But maybe that’s the point.”Abigail turned to her, utterly confused.Meanwhile, Caleb was standing tall

  • 222: Thrashed.

Zora sighed and reached for another piece of dried meat from her pouch like this was just entertainment with live-action violence and blood. Abigail, on the other hand, was clutching her hands together nervously, eyes wide as Kai went flying again.“He’s too angry,” Zora muttered, not even trying to mask her disapproval.Abigail turned to her quickly happy that she was finally answering her question. “Too angry? Isn’t that normal? He was betrayed, twice I think.”Zora chewed, then swallowed. “Normal? Sure. But in a fight like this? It's a recipe for getting your teeth rearranged.” She turned her eyes toward the battlefield and nodded toward Kai, who was dragging himself back up with raw fury in his eyes. “When someone’s angry, they lose control. They start throwing punches without thinking. And once you stop thinking in a fight, you're done.”Abigail’s brows furrowed. “But... Kai’s strong. Isn’t he?”Zora let out a dry laugh, licking the salt from her fingers. “Strength without contro
