The laughter came first sharp, loud, and full of mockery.

Those from the other groups doubled over as if they’d just witnessed the funniest thing in the realm. One even clutched his stomach, wheezing between words. “Hahaha! Look at them! The mighty Immortal Forging Sect and others frozen like statues!”

Another joined in, cupping his hands around his mouth. “Hey, Abigail! Did you forget how to move? Or is your pretty armor given to you too heavy?”

“Oh, maybe she’s waiting for her mute boyfriend to give her permission!” someone shouted, and that sent another wave of laughter rolling through the street.

Even the female disciples from other sects snickered among themselves. “Tch, typical,” one said. “Always playing cautious so they can claim they were the smart ones when others do the work.”

“I bet they’ll walk in after the danger’s gone,” another said with a smirk. “Pick at scraps and call it a victory.”
