Kai was still staring.

Like really staring.

Not the subtle kind, not the creepy kind—just the kind that screamed, "I’ve got time and you’re entertainment."

The woman shifted slightly under the weight of his gaze, raising a brow. “Why are you staring at me like that?”

Kai let out a chuckle—low, amused, shameless.

“Waiting for you to stop acting like a sealed-up drama queen and actually say something.” He leaned back with a yawn, stretching his limbs wide.“I’ve got a bit of free time today, so I figured... why not waste it listening to the bloody soap opera that got you nearly shredded in my training field?”

He grinned lazily, voice dripping with sarcasm.

“So, what’s your story? Lemme guess—you’re a runaway disciple from some overbearing sect who didn’t want to marry the old wrinkled elder in charge, so you dipped during your engagement ceremony? Or maybe you accidentally insulted a demigod’s favorite concubine and now they’ve sent all nine realms after your head?”

The woman scoffed and

That night, not long after Abigail had gone to sleep in the guest room, peace covered the penthouse and Kai sat cross-legged in his room, shirtless, the markings on his back faintly pulsing as he meditated. His breathing was steady, calm and focused. For once, he felt the world slow down, his energy flow steady, and his thoughts finally in alignment but then...SLAM!The door burst open like someone kicked it with a vengeance.“Kai, get your damn self out here.”His eyes snapped open and his brain registered the name.... Zora.Of course it was Zora.He blinked. “Zora, are you serious right now, it's dead in the night and you are screaming my...?”“No talking, just get here now.”“I’m cultivating...”She folded her arms and leaned on the doorframe. “Cultivating? With the awareness of a dead fish? If you don’t get up and put on something decent, I swear I’ll drag you out by your boxers.”Kai groaned and rubbed his temples. “Let me change, woman.”She turned and walked away like a queen

  • 184: Dreams.

As soon as they got home, Kai hopped down from the truck and yanked the tailgate open, the bloodied, massive beasts he’d slain earlier slumped forward, reeking of forest and gore. He grabbed three at once, muscles flexing and headed toward the house, boots thudding against the concrete.Zora followed behind, not helping, obviously, but offering her usual support, an unimpressed whistle. “You better not drop blood on the floor. I just mopped yesterday… in my dreams.”Kai rolled his eyes but said nothing. As he reached the front porch, the door creaked open and Abigail stood there. She didn’t say a word, just rushed forward, eyes wide, face pale with worry.Kai blinked, confused. “Abigail...”Before he could finish, she threw herself at him. Kai dropped the beasts instantly, dead weight forgotten as her arms wrapped tightly around him.“I’m so glad you’re okay,” she mumbled into his chest, her voice shaking.Kai froze, like literally frozen. His arms stayed awkwardly at his sides for a m

  • 183: Aura.

Zora stood a few feet behind him, arms folded under her chest, expression unreadable, except for the sharp shake of her head. A slow, disappointed movement that sliced deeper than words.Kai noticed her expression and then looked at her, frowning. “Why are you shaking your head like that?”Her gaze met his, cold and steady. “Because you disappointed me.”That hit harder than any blow.Kai’s jaw flexed, but he said nothing.Zora stepped closer, her boots crunching the leaves underfoot. “You wasted too much energy, all that flair, all that muscle, just to take down opponents who were beneath you.”She looked at the spot where the masked assassins had escaped. “And still… they got away.”The words cut, Kai froze, his chest tightening. He thought he'd done well, thought he’d shown growth. But from Zora’s eyes it was nothing more than a show of reckless power.“You don’t get it, do you?” Zora’s voice dropped, low and sharp. “You weren’t supposed to fight them.”Kai blinked, confused. “What

  • 182: Assassins.

The forest air was crisp and sharp, leaves crunching beneath Kai’s boots as he strolled casually behind Zora. The beasts corpse slung over his shoulder barely weighed as much as a pillow now. A month ago, he would’ve needed to drag them like a sack of cement. Now, his body was stronger, more responsive, and far more dangerous than ever. And Zora, of course, couldn’t let it slide without a jab.“Try not to break your back, Beast Boy,” she teased, walking ahead with her hands behind her back, acting like she wasn’t glancing over her shoulder to admire his progress.Kai smirked. “This thing weighs less than your ego. I’m good.”Zora turned around dramatically, one brow raised. “Careful. One more word, and I’ll feed you to its mate. You think you’re hard ‘cause you’ve got that little flashlight eye now?”Kai laughed under his breath. “Flashlight? Baby, I just split three beasts with one look. You want me to add you to the list?”Zora scoffed but chuckled. “Split me? Sweetheart, you couldn

  • Chapter 181: Progress.

(A Month Later)The wind was still in the forest, but Kai's breathing wasn’t.He stood rooted in the middle of a dense clearing, surrounded by twisted trees and fallen leaves. Morning sunlight filtered lazily through the canopy, catching the golden glint in his half-lidded eyes. His muscles were tense, drenched in sweat, his shirt already sticking to his body.Zora stood quietly beside him, arms folded, expression unreadable, like always.Kai’s third eye was open. The world around him was stretched wide, too wide. He could see the flutter of a squirrel’s tail in a distant tree. The twitch of a leaf behind him, the pulse of life and motion in every direction without having to turn.He saw it all.Everything… except Zora.Again.It had become normal and of course expected. The heavenly eye, despite its ability to detect even the faintest trace of energy and matter, never captured Zora’s presence. It was like she was a void, untouchable by the divine sight.Kai didn’t ask anymore, he was

  • Chapter 180: A Whole Day?!

Kai’s eyes flew open. His head throbbed slightly, his vision adjusting to the soft glow of the lights above. But he wasn’t in the forest anymore. He was… on the couch? The leather cushions beneath him were too familiar, the faint smell of cinnamon-scented oil in the air too comforting. He was home, back in the penthouse.“What the hell…?”He sat up abruptly, wincing as soreness surged through his limbs. His hands shot to his head as if trying to balance the sudden rush of blood. But before he could panic, a dry voice echoed from behind him.“You're welcome, by the way.”He turned sharply to see Zora lounging lazily at the dining table, legs crossed, chewing something with a smug expression on her face.“You passed out and I had to drag your heavy ass all the way back,” she added, pointing her chopsticks at him like a weapon. “Almost dislocated my spine in the process.”Kai blinked, still trying to catch up. “You dragged me… all the way back…? Alone?”Zora snorted. “No, genius. I borro
