“Are you sure the readouts are stable?” Adrian asked as the executive walked up to the control panel.

Nicolas adjusted his glasses. “Yes. I’ve checked them six times. The prototype is ready.”

“Are you sure it won’t crash like last time?” Adrian asked, uncertain if they should proceed.

“If you say that one more time I’ll cut the power, and you can try it yourself," Nicolas barked.

Adrian shot Nicolas a cold look.

“Alright I’m joking. It’s ready," Nicolas said.

Another step, he heard a voice, a soft moan came from the other side of the lab. Jax paused and called out."Hello?"There was no response back, so he decided to followed the sound, using his phone's flash light as a guide. A few steps later, he found Nicolas. The scientist was lying on the floor, glasses shattered, one sleeve burnt, blood covering the side of his face. His lower body was pinned under a large chunk of equipment."Nicolas?" Jax called. His eyes wandered around the debris and the body laying on the floor. Jax thought he was about to say something. He tried to move his arm."Please help..." Nicolas voice called in a very weak manner.Jax looked at the bloodied scientist. That didn’t sound like him. Nicolas had been barking orders at him for weeks."What happened?" Jax asked.Nicolas couched, "the prototype...""Forget the prototype. Are you able to move?" Jax asked."Please help..."Jax looked at the frame. He grabbed either side and pulled. It didn't budge, Jax pushed

Adrian was a somewhat superstitious man, but Nicolas couldn't be sure if he was joking or not.Jax was lying down on the testing platform. Cables were attached to his chest and arms, and he wore testing gloves. Lenses sat around his head, connected to the prototype above. This was it. The day they would find out if their months of work were a failure or a success. Jax looked between the two men.“A

"Gahh!" Marcus gasped as a great deal of pain rocked his body. A few members of staff turned around. "Don't you dare tell me it's just coffee!" Jax shouted, unable to contain his rage. "Let go of me!" Marcus tried to shout, but it came out as a plea. Jax squeezed tighter. "What did you say?" "Adam!" Daniel rushed over and grabbed Jax's arm. "Let him go!" Jax turned to him, "stop touching me!“ Not until you let him go.” Daniel said. For a moment, Jax looked like he was going to hit Daniel, too. After a bit of struggling and pleading, Jax finally let go of Marcus. Marcus took a step back, trying to catch his breath. Daniel placed himself between them. “Have you lost your mind?” "He made a mess of my clothes and my office," Jax responded. "It was an accident!"Daniel said in defense of Marcus. "Then he needs to learn to control his hands," Jax said. Marcus looked at Daniel, "I said I was sorry." "I know. Go wash your hands. I'll sort it," Daniel said, gesturi

"Sorry, could you move, please?" A scrawny looking woman called out. Jax looked at the woman. She was reaching for a box of cereal on the shelf and had knocked her elbow into his arm. He moved out of the way. "Thanks." She grabbed what she needed and turned to leave. As she turned, the woman knocked into his shoulder. "Oh, sorry," she apologized. Jax looked at her. "Are you blind?" He asked angrily. She paused. "Excuse me?" "I'm not joking. You're in an entire aisle, and you're knocking into people!" Jax shouted. "I'm sorry, it was an accident," the woman pleaded. "Does that make you any less clumsy?" Jax askdd Her expression changed. "I wasn't being rude, I was just sorry." Jax chuckled. "Try watching where you're going next time." She shook her head and said a few words, "unbelievable, what a rude young man," the woman said angrily before leaving the aisle. Jax didn't bother to respond. He grabbed his box of noodles and placed them in his basket. He just

"Again?"Jax looked at the lenses on the table."Every Tuesday and Thursday, you ask me this," Nicolas responded in mild annoyance.Adrian chuckled from behind the controls."Adam, put them on. The quicker you get through this, the quicker you can go home," Adrian said.Jax looked at him. "You're not the one wearing them.""No, but I'm paying for them," Adrian said."Maybe you should wear them," Jax insisted. "Have you finished?" Nicolas asked, raising his head.Jax picked up the lenses and put them on.The testing room fell silent as Nicolas returned to his equipment."Starting calibration."A gentle hum filled Jax's ears. He leaned back in his chair as lines appeared in front of him. Although he was used to seeing them, they still confused him as they connected and separated."Can you see anything?" Nicolas asked."Yes.""What?" "Just the normal lines. Some are brighter than others.""Are they moving?" Nicolas asked"A little,"Jax responded. "Can you follow them?" Nicolas asked a

  • Chapter 182: It Is Time!

"Can I look at the older reports?" he asked."Some of them," Daniel said. "Your clearance covers most of the standard reports, but the older reports are restricted.""Who handles the maintenance archives?" Jax asked."Rachel," Daniel said, "and Daniel Foster—" he paused and indicated himself "... handles most of the technical analysis and performance reports. Anything more sensitive than that requires higher clearance."Jax raised an eyebrow. "Why refer to yourself in the third person?" Jax asked."Who knows," Daniel said with a chuckle Jax frowned, angry about his childish behavior.Daniel laughed. Perhaps his goal was accomplished. "Ask Rachel about the maintenance archives. I'll show you the reports you can access."Jax spent the next several hours reviewing the documents with Daniel's guidance. He took notes and asked questions until he was reasonably familiar with the general layout of the reports.Occasionally, he would find a document that mentioned restricted projects or olde
