Chapter 1: Blood in the Alley

The rain poured down hard on the dark streets of Crestfall City.

Draven Quill wiped the water from his face as he parked his old delivery scooter outside the fancy hotel.

His clothes were soaked through, and his stomach growled from skipping lunch again.

He had worked twelve hours straight to make enough for rent and maybe a cheap meal.

Tonight was supposed to be special. He had scraped together money to surprise his girlfriend, Mia, with dinner at this very hotel. She always complained about their simple dates, so he wanted to show her he could do better.

His heart beat faster as he walked into the bright lobby carrying a small bouquet of flowers he bought from a street vendor.

The receptionist gave him a strange look when he asked for Mia's room number. She had checked in earlier with someone.

Draven frowned but thanked her anyway and headed to the elevator. Perhaps she was setting up a surprise for him as well.

He reached the door on the tenth floor and knocked softly. No answer. He tried again, louder this time. Still nothing.

Then he heard it — laughter from inside. A man's deep voice mixed with Mia's giggles.

Draven's hand tightened on the flowers. He pushed the door handle. It was unlocked.

The scene hit him like a punch to the gut. Mia lay on the big bed in nothing but her underwear. A tall guy in an expensive suit stood beside her, his hand on her waist.

Bottles of wine and fancy food covered the table. The man turned and smirked when he saw Draven.

"Well, look who showed up," the guy said with a laugh. "Your little delivery boy boyfriend."

Mia sat up quickly, pulling the sheet over herself. Her face went pale for a second, then turned angry. "Draven? What the hell are you doing here?"

Draven could not speak at first. His mouth felt dry. The flowers dropped from his hand onto the carpet. "Mia... I came to surprise you. We were supposed to have dinner. Why... why is he here?"

The rich guy stepped closer. He was built like someone who spent time in the gym with a personal trainer, not working a real job. His watch alone cost more than Draven made in a year.

"She is with me now, loser. Mia told me all about you. Always broke, always working odd jobs. She deserves better than some scooter rat."

Mia looked away, but she did not deny it. "Draven, you need to leave. This is not what it looks like... okay, it is. But we have not been happy for months. You never take me anywhere nice. Jax gives me what I want."

Draven felt his chest tighten. Jax. He knew the name. Jax Harlan, son of a big real estate family in the city.

The kind of guy who threw parties in penthouses and treated people like trash if they were not rich.

"You brought him here with my money?" Draven asked quietly. His voice shook a little. "The money I sent you for your birthday gift?"

Jax laughed louder. "Your money? That pocket change? I paid for the room, the wine, everything. Now get out before I call security."

Draven stepped forward. "Mia, we can talk about this. Please. I love you. I have been working so hard for us."

Mia rolled her eyes. "Love? Draven, grow up. Love does not pay the bills or buy nice things. Jax can take care of me. You cannot even take care of yourself."

That was when Jax shoved him. Hard. Draven stumbled back against the wall. "You heard her. Scram, delivery boy."

Anger rose in Draven's chest. He swung a punch, but Jax dodged easily and hit him square in the jaw. Pain exploded in his face.

Before he could recover, two big bodyguards rushed in from the hallway. They must have been waiting outside.

They grabbed Draven by the arms and dragged him out of the room. He kicked and struggled, but they were too strong. Mia watched from the bed without saying a word to stop them.

"Throw him in the alley," Jax ordered from the doorway. "Make sure he learns his place."

The bodyguards laughed as they pulled Draven into the service elevator. They took him down to the back of the hotel and tossed him out into the narrow alley behind the building. Rain mixed with the dirty puddles on the ground.

Draven tried to stand, but one of the men kicked him hard in the ribs. He gasped and fell again. The second guy punched him in the stomach. Pain shot through his whole body.

"Stay away from Miss Mia," the first bodyguard warned. "Next time we will not be so nice."

They kicked him a few more times in the back and legs, then walked away laughing. Draven lay there in the cold rain, blood mixing with the water running down his face. His lip was split. His ribs hurt with every breath.

The bouquet he brought was probably still on the hotel floor, ruined like everything else.

He crawled to the wall and leaned against it. Tears burned in his eyes, but he blinked them away.

Why did this happen? He had given Mia everything he could.

He worked extra shifts, skipped meals, even borrowed money once to buy her that necklace she wanted. And this was how she repaid him?

The world felt heavy. His vision started to blur from the pain and the rain. "Is this it?" he whispered to himself.

"After all that... I end up like garbage in an alley?"

His phone was cracked in his pocket. He pulled it out anyway, but the screen would not turn on. No one to call. No one who cared.

Darkness crept in at the edges of his sight. His body felt cold and weak. Maybe he would just close his eyes for a minute. The rain kept falling, washing away the blood but not the hurt inside.

Then something strange happened.

A voice echoed in his head. It was clear and calm, like a machine speaking directly into his mind.

[Urban Harem Dominance System activated.]

[Host detected: Draven Quill.]

[Life force critical. Initiating emergency binding.]

Draven's eyes snapped open. What was that? His head throbbed even worse now.

[Congratulations, Host. You have been chosen as the sole user of the Urban Harem Dominance System.]

[Because of your betrayal and near-death state, you receive the Starter Pack.]

A flood of information poured into his brain. It did not hurt. Instead, it felt like warm energy spreading through his body. His cuts stopped bleeding. The pain in his ribs eased a little.

[Starter rewards:]

[+10,000,000 dollars added to your account.]

[Beginner Martial Arts Mastery unlocked.]

[Charm Aura Level 1 activated.]

[First Mission: Rise Above the Trash. Take revenge on those who wronged you and claim your first woman of quality.]

Draven stared at the empty alley. Numbers and words floated in front of his eyes like a transparent screen only he could see.

He checked his cracked phone again. The banking app opened by itself. The balance showed ten million dollars.

Ten. Million.

His hands shook as he sat up straighter. The rain still fell, but he no longer felt cold. Strength returned to his legs. He stood up slowly, testing his body. The bruises were still there, but they did not slow him down like before.

A small smile touched his swollen lip.

Mia and Jax thought they could throw him away like trash. They thought he was nothing.

They were wrong.

Draven wiped the blood from his face with the back of his hand. His eyes grew cold and sharp.

"Game on," he said quietly to the night.

The system voice spoke again. [Host, your new life begins now. Build your wealth. Build your power. Build your harem. Women like Mia are beneath you. True queens will kneel at your feet when you rise.]

Draven took a deep breath and walked out of the alley toward the main street. His old scooter waited where he left it, but he no longer needed it.

He flagged down a taxi. As he climbed in, he gave the driver the address of a cheap motel for now. Tomorrow would be different. Tomorrow he would start taking back what was his — and much more.

The city lights blurred past the window. For the first time in years, Draven Quill felt alive.

The delivery boy was dead.

The overlord was just waking up.
