Chapter 7: Meeting

GEORGINA was so excited when Theodore announced that the new heir of the Griffins had requested a meeting at his estate. She had been living with Theodore since the other week, giving her many perks.

“Please, let me come with you. I can wait outside.” Georgina pouted her lips as she asked him. She knew that with her innocent face, he wouldn’t let her down.

Georgina fluttered her fresh set of eyelash extension that perfectly complemented her amber-colored eyes.

“Okay, you should come. Since you’ll work for the same company, it’s better if you could take a glimpse of the executives.” Theodore put on his black tie and added, “Although I’m quite hesitant because one of them might steal you away from me.”

“Oh, Theo.” Georgina helped her man fix his tie and gave him a quick peck on his lips. “I’m all yours.”

Theodore smiled. “I’m just kidding, sweetheart. Anyway, I heard the new heir is still young. Every board of directors seemed disappointed that the Griffin Patriarch died and passed on the business to someone we know nothing about.”

“I understand the frustration, my love. Maybe you and the board could find a way to kick him. I bet other family members aren’t happy about it either.”

Theodore chuckled. “That wouldn’t be easy. This meeting will be the turning point where I should pick a side. The succession will be messy, I’m sure of it.”

Georgina giggled. “I can’t wait to meet this heir in person.”

“Same here, my love.”

Georgina was all glammed up, even though she wouldn’t attend the meeting. She wore black haltered evening gown, revealing her smooth fair skin, and her newly colored ash-blonde hair was tied up in a french bun.

She’d surely find a way to create a little accident to meet the Griffin’s heir.

The meeting would occur at eight o’clock in the evening, but Georgina and Theodore arrived at Griffin’s Estate around seven thirty. Their driver, who also served as their bodyguard, parked their luxury car in the spacious parking lot.

Georgina gasped as she surveyed the vineyard with her eyes and then looked at the sprawling garden near them. There were fountains in line where the water flow emitted different colorful lights.

“Come inside. You can wait in the living room until the meeting is done.” Theodore invited.

Georgina held Theodore’s arm as they strolled inside the mansion. She could not contain her excitement as she looked at every luxurious thing in the house.

“I feel bad leaving you alone here.” Theodore glanced at his gold wristwatch. “I need to go to the conference room now.”

“Take your time, love.”

When Theodore left, Georgina sprang up to check the classic paintings on the wall, some of which were famous artworks. She only sat back when she heard the purr of an engine.

Other executives came to the mansion one after another, wearing expensive business suits, and none of them even turned to look at her.

Georgina frowned because she thought her face was always striking enough for people to pay attention.

She rolled her eyes in silence and decided to go out of the mansion. Georgina strolled in the garden and came near one of the fountains with a life-size marble sculpture of a winged angel.

Georgina screamed when a strong pressure of water from the hose suddenly hit her, making her expensive dress drenched.

“What the hell?!” Georgina’s face turned red. She was fuming, especially when she saw a figure of a man hurriedly coming over.

“I’m sorry I didn’t see you there.” The man paused, and his eyes widened. “Georgina?”

Georgina had to blink twice to ensure she was not hallucinating.

“Max? What the hell are you doing here? Don’t tell me you’ve stalked me again and found a way here. This is insane! When will you ever stop?”

She was disgusted at her ex-husband. He looked untidy. His white shirt had a mud stain, and he was sweating.

“I’m sorry,” Max appeared truly apologetic.

“Don’t you dare tell anybody we know each other! Oh, my god! My expensive dress!”

“I’m genuinely sorry about your dress. I’ll send a replacement soon.”

“Replacement? As if you could afford this! This dress is a gift from Theodore, a haute couture!” Georgina tried her best not to scream in annoyance.

“Oh,” Max wiped the sweat from his face with his dirty shirt, making Georgina feel even more sickened.

“I can’t believe you’re working here as a gardener now. Geez, the least you can do is to never associate your filthy self with me.”

Max smiled. “Sure.”

Georgina seemed to enjoy looking down on him, so she kept blabbering. They were in that situation when Theodore suddenly came out.

“Goodness, sweetheart! I came out to check on you since Mr. Maximus Griffin is not yet here. My...” He scrutinized her. “Why do you look like a mess?”

Georgina was teary-eyed, gazing at her dirty dress. “Don’t mind it.”

Theodore glared at Max, who was still holding the hose. Without a warning, he grabbed Max’s shirt. “What did you do to my girl?!”

Max looked him straight in the eyes. “I’m sorry, mister. Your daughter seemed lost.” He acted innocent and clearly enunciated the word ‘daughter.’

Georgina’s jaw dropped because she wasn’t expecting Max to answer back. She always knew him as silent and meek. But now he seemed ready to fight. Georgina assumed that her ex-husband hadn’t moved on yet.

“How dare you!” Theodore was so triggered that he could not help but punch Max in the face, causing his side of the lips to bleed.

Georgina gasped. She held onto Theodore’s arm, thankful that until now Theodore had no idea that Max was her ex-husband, and she had no plan of telling him at the moment.

Theodore was about to hit him again when several bodyguards gathered, preventing him from assaulting Max for the second time.

Max was silently communicating with Blaze, the head of security, by gesturing with his eyes to let the old guy go.

“Mr. Harris, if you can’t control your temper, I will force you to leave,” Blaze said intimidatingly.

“This gardener of yours has no manners! How dare he address my woman as my daughter?!” Theodore was enraged.

Blaze shut his lips tight to prevent himself from laughing. However, Max’s face remained stern.

“Please return to the conference hall and wait for Mr. Griffin. He is preparing by now.” Blaze ordered his men to accompany the two as they returned to the mansion.

Max let out a sigh when everyone left except the head of security. “Thanks for that, Blaze.”

“Anything for you, Young Master.”
