WISH TO BE RICH

"It's a heart disease and I only have three months but seeing you act this way just makes me feel like I could die right now" Johnathan lowered his head in grief.

He was hoping that Molly would go back to acting like she used to. She used to be very caring but ever since he became friends with Bradly, Molly started acting increasingly distant.

Now he knows why.

"Molly please, I know this looks bad but it's not too late for us. I can still forgive you and act like I didn't see any of this—" Johnathan said but was cut off mid-sentence.

"Good, now you can stop bothering me all the time. Just die so that I can finally have some peace!" Molly said, shocking Johnathan to his core.

Johnathan looked at her and for the first time, he truly couldn't recognize the girl he fell head over heels for two years ago.

"Molly, don't you think that's a bit harsh? You can at least show pity for his illness?" Molly's roommate spoke and everyone's eyes immediately went to her.

Annoyed, Molly approached her and said "Why should I pity him?! Wait, don't tell me you're interested in Johnathan?"

"What?!" Molly's roommate said in a panic.

Molly rolled her eyes and said "Whatever! You can have him if you want but don't think we're going to remain, roommates or friends, if that happens"

Molly's roommate looked at all the eyes she had on her and she got nervous about ever speaking out and so she started to chuckle.

"No, it's nothing like that Molly. I was just pointing out how pathetic he looks so we can at least show some pity. I can never have interest in someone like this—" Molly's roommate said but stopped when Johnathan started to cough out blood.

They all moved away from him.

"Oh my God, is it contagious?!"

"Get away from me you freak!"

Instead of helping, they all brought out their phones and started to video Johnathan while barraging him with their hateful comments.

Their videos were going straight live on Bubble, a very popular social media slash streaming platform all the kids in school use.

"Please, someone help me with a tissue" Johnathan begged, reaching toward Molly's roommate for help, however, the look of disgust she gave him completely sucked out any hope he had in his eyes.

“Hey loser, nobody can help you. What you need is a miracle so here!” Bradly reached into his pocket and brought out a gold coin.

“There’s a fountain in front of the school, why don’t you go wish that you weren’t a dying piece of shit”

Bradly threw the coin at Johnathan’s face then they all started laughing at him while the stream of him coughing was blowing up in views.

Johnathan looked at Molly for help but too was laughing at him and so he picked up the coin and ran out of the room, completely humiliated.

"Hey look, isn't that Jonathan?"

"Keep your distance before you get infected by accident"

The students who had been watching the stream in the hallway made their comments as they saw him run past them.

Johnathan ran to the restroom where he remained, crying and hiding from everyone because he couldn’t handle it anymore.

He stayed there and didn’t know when he slept and woke up at night. Nobody cared to find him to tell him that school was over for the day.

Johnathan left the restroom and went to his locker to get his backpack before going outside the building, sniffling and shivering aggressively when the cold wind blew all over his body

He felt sick like a fever was on the way and just then, his phone started to ring in his pocket.

Johnathan brought it out and answered but he hadn't even put the phone to his ear when the caller started shouting at him.

["You useless boy, where the hell are you?! Did you forget that the social worker was supposed to come today?! Because you didn't show up, that bastard was giving us an attitude"]

"Dad?" Johnathan asked.

["Who do you think you're calling dad you good for nothing leach?! Are you brain dead or what?! Call me anything but Mr. Rogers again and you're dead!"] Johnathan's foster father yelled.

["Listen here you ingrate, you know what your punishment for making us feel embarrassed is going to be right?! It's a whole week without food and you'll be sleeping in the attic with the rats, got it?!"] Mrs. Rogers yelled next, not allowing Johnathan to speak until she was done.

"B-but, I can't stay without eating, I'm not feeling too go—" Johnathan pleaded but the call was cut off because they didn't want to listen to what he had to say.

Johnathan's hand dropped dejectedly. Is this what his life is going to be like for the next three months?

Johnathan contemplated running away from home but where was he supposed to go? He had nobody.

Just then, his ears picked up the sound of the water from the school fountain splashing from the side.

Johnathan looked at it and remembered what Bradly told him.

Johnathan walked over to the fountain defeatedly and stared at its crystal clear water.

He reached into his pocket and brought out the gold coin.

Because he didn't have money, regardless of the embarrassment, Johnathan had kept the coin because it was more than enough for his fare back home and to buy a burger on the way too.

He knew there wasn’t going to be food waiting for him at home anyway.

"I wish I wasn't sick—" Johnathan paused to gulp then he continued "I wish I would get STRUCK BY A CAR AND DIE!"

A tear fell from his eyes as he let go of the coin.

Even if he wished for health, what point is it if he has to live such a terrible life? It was better for everything to just end, that’s what he thought.

"NO!"

Johnathan exclaimed as he caught the coin just before it could hit the water.

His heart was beating fast and he remembered all the pain and heartache he has been through today and he frowned.

"Why should I die and give them the satisfaction of having me gone? Molly, Bradly, and the rest, I won't waste my wish to make you happy." Johnathan said angrily.

He clenched the coin in his fist.

“I wish to have my revenge on those who’s ever wronged me. With the days I have left, I wish to be bastardly rich!”

Johnathan said furiously then let go of the coin and it went straight through the water.

Everywhere was quiet for some seconds and suddenly, Johnathan grabbed his chest tightly.

His heart felt like it was about to explode and he started coughing up blood, again.

He reached for the bag of medicine tied to his backpack strap. He tried getting any medicine to help but the attack was too severe that he ended up dropping the entire bag of drugs into the fountain.

Johnathan tried reaching for the bag but the moving water carried the bag beyond his reach and he collapsed on the water reservoir.

"Am I going to die here?" Johnathan asked in a panic as he coughed none stop, staining the water in the fountain red until he passed out.

Hours went by and Johnathan slowly regained consciousness. The first thing he could hear around him were strange beeping sounds.

“He’s waking up!” a female voice said.

“Where am I?” Johnathan asked as he opened his eyes and saw that he was in a white room, surrounded by nurses.

“Who are you, people?” Johnathan asked, realizing that he was in a hospital room.

The doctor cleared his throat and was about to answer but he was cut off.

“Let me handle this doctor,” said an elderly gentleman wearing an expensive carton brown suit as he stepped closer to Johnathan’s bed.

“Sorry sir but do I know you?” Johnathan asked, a little reserved about what situation he was in this time.

All of a sudden, the elderly gentleman bowed his head to Johnathan and said “You don’t know who I am but my name is Abraham Butler and it’s my pleasure to finally meet you, Young Master Cross”
