2025-11-13 02:02:05When dawn broke over the camp, there were more groans as men stumbled around, trying to relight campfires and get the first brews of coffee going.
“Morning men,” David said cheerfully. Despite Nyx’s late night visit, he had still managed to get a few decent hours of sleep.
“If any of you want to tap out, all you need do is hike back to the clearing we landed in. There is a satellite phone. Someone will be along to collect you with in a few hours. For the rest of us, its training time. Gear up. The real training starts now.”
Several of the Huntsmen appeared out of the woods and quickly had the men broken into groups of five. The thirteen teams then went through the grueling physical tests they had been working on all month, now with only a half hour to complete them.
Loud thuds sounded in the woods near by just as they completed the last round of pushups.

“Nyx, please don’t kill her.” David called, unsure what had gotten into Nyx. She wasn’t one to show herself in public lightly and she rarely engaged anyone else in training. David worked out his frustrations by training with the men at the training ground every day. Those who had survived hell week were subjected to a ruinous treatment as David battled groups of ten per day.They were allowed to use any attack they wished, and employ any tactic they could think of to attack him. The sun had set once more by the time the battlefield had been cleared and the wounded or dead transported back to Perth. David slumped into a high backed chair in one of the newly renovated conference rooms near the top of the Perth Center tower.“And to conclude, our final count is six dead, five seriously wounded. That specialist, Nyx, is still unaccounted for,” Nathaniel said formally. He stood at parade rest, one arm in a sling and several bandages showed along his neck and arms.“Six dead.” David let out a long breath. It was unnerving to have to face their own men without ever spotting the Amris they were hunting.
