The whole hall went dead quiet.

Every eye wide in surprise.

Cassian’s cold face slowly turned into a dark smile as unclenched his fist and folded his arm.

‘What is happening…I…don't understand, why isn't the crystal ball glowing, what does it mean?’

Asta Xavier muttered to himself, his face building up sweats as his hands began to tremble.

The students began to murmur.

“What is happening?”

One female student asked.

“I don't actually know, but I think the crystal ball might be broken or something, right?”

Another female student asked.

“Asta, are you sure you laid your hands as I instructed you to do?”

The teacher asked, her tone thick with curiosity as she stepped closer to Asta.

“Uhmm, yes ma'am, I placed my palms on the crystal ball as you instructed and…”

“Teacher!”

The Empress voice cut in, attracting the attention of everyone in the hall, Asta stood frozen and trembling as his sweats began to drip down to his clothes and hands.

The Empress got up from his seat and then walked towards Asta and the teacher. She then stood right in front of the teacher and gazed at her, giving her sign to step away.

“Okay, Xavier, right?”

“Yes, Empress.”

Asta responded with a gathered courage.

“Place your palm again on the crystal ball.”

She spoke, her tone thick with order.

“O-okay ma'am Empress.”

He then turned and swallowed hard.

‘Please glow! Please glow, please glow!! You stupid crystal ball!’

He muttered to himself as he closed his eyes and placed his palm, but the result was still the same, the crystal didn't glow nor did it spark a light.

‘What…does this mean?’

He muttered to himself.

“What does this actually mean?”

A male student from another school asked.

“It seems that Asta Xavier isn't feeling the family heat.”

Lucien Pyre spoke out, his tone thick with sarcasm as everyone in the hall burst out in laughter.

The Empress then raised her staff and everyone kept calm. She then gazed at Asta, whose gaze was now gazing at the floor.

“It seems that you didn't inherit any flame from your family, not your clan, you disgusting little worm.”

She spat, her voice dripping venom.

A girl from the crowd then spoke, breaking the silence.

“Look at him. Completely useless.”

The whispers slithered around the hall as dozens of students crowded behind Asta. He stood alone in front of the sacred crystal ball, his palms open, waiting for even the tiniest spark of his family’s flame, but nothing came.

“He didn’t inherit a single ember.”

Someone sneered.

“Not even rookie-level fire. What a joke.”

Another laughed, loud and cruel.

“I heard he killed his own mother. Ate his way out of her stomach like some monster.”

“Yeah, who even is this freak?”

Asta’s shoulders shook. His voice barely escaped his throat, cracked and trembling.

‘It’s not true… none of it. I saw him. That man in the black cloak… he was at the hospital that night. He cut her open himself. I remember the knife. I remember the smell of the blood.’

He muttered to himself.

“No flame, no worth, Get out of my sight before you taint the air I breathe.”

Head bowed, fists clenched so hard his nails drew blood, Asta turned and walked. Past the laughing students in their sleek crimson-and-gold uniforms. Past the crystal ball that had rejected him. All the way to the back of the academy.

He slowly gazed up in search of Elara, his eyes widened as he fell on her as she was now with Lucien Pyre.

‘What is she doing with him?’

He asked as he walked over to her.

“Hey, Elara, what is going on here?”

Asta asked, his tone low and laced with curiosity.

“Ohh, it is the flameless Asta Xavier, Elara babe, please I think you should tell him the truth.”

Lucien Pyre spoke as he held Elara’s hands and kissed it right in front of Asta, whose fist immediately clenched on his side.

“Tell me what, Elara, what is he talking about?”

Asta asked.

“Are you blind, Asta, can't you see I have moved on, you don't have any flame meaning that you are not going to be the head of the Xavier clan, I can't stay with a dead weight like you, If I do, you will be a stai

n on my beautiful future.”

Her words hit so hard that Asta stood frozen z his eyes now dripping with tears as the moment that he shared with her flash past his memory…

The pillar of green flame around Ragnar burned higher.Ten feet. Twenty. Thirty. It twisted like a tornado, spiraling around him, the heat so intense that the stone floor beneath his feet was starting to melt, turning from solid rock into glowing liquid that bubbled and hissed. The wind in the arena changed direction, all of it being pulled toward Ragnar, feeding the flames, making them burn brighter and hotter with each passing second. In the observation deck, Jabber's entire body started trembling again. Not from the cold. From the sheer oppressive WEIGHT of the power radiating from the ring.It felt like gravity had increased. Like the air itself had gotten heavier.‘’"Jabber."’’Loki's voice in his mind was tight with fear.‘’"He's not holding back anymore. That's his TRUE power. That's what he's actually capable of."’’‘’We need to leave. We need to…’’‘’"It's too late. If we run now, if we move, he'll notice. And if he notices us while he's like THIS..."’’’Loki didn't finish the

The Emperor Dragon blocked all three, but the third impact actually drove him back a step. His back foot slid on the cracked stone.Ragnar saw it."Getting TIRED, little brother?"His grin was manic now, wild."We're just GETTING STARTED!"He spun the glaive in a full circle, building momentum, then brought it down in a devastating overhead strike. The Emperor Dragon crossed both swords above his head, catching the glaive blade between them. The impact drove him to one knee. The ground beneath him didn't crack,it shattered, chunks of stone flying outward as a crater formed under the force of the blow.Ragnar pressed down, adding his weight to the strike, trying to drive the Emperor Dragon to the ground completely. The Emperor Dragon's arms were shaking,Asta's muscles screaming in protest, pushed far beyond their limits.‘’Can't... hold…’’‘’’You can. You MUST.’’’‘’’But…’’‘’’HOLD!’’’The Emperor Dragon gritted his teeth, felt something in his jaw pop from the pressure and PUSHED.Not

The Emperor Dragon landed fifteen feet away, both swords held in a defensive guard. His chest was heaving,Asta's lungs burning from exertion.Ragnar landed in a crouch where the Emperor Dragon had been standing, green flames still flickering around his leg from the missed kick.He looked up, and his smile was pure predatory joy."Oh, you're QUICK. I forgot how quick you were."He straightened slowly, deliberately, his glaive spinning lazily in his right hand."This is going to be so much FUN."Then he moved. Not ran nor charged. He Exploded into motion. One moment he was standing fifteen feet away. The next he was RIGHT THERE, his glaive already mid-swing, the blade coming in at the Emperor Dragon's neck in a horizontal slash that would have taken his head clean off.The Emperor Dragon's right blade came up,purely on instinct, catching the glaive shaft just below the blade. The impact sent a shockwave rippling outward, visible as a sphere of displaced air.CLANG!The sound was like a be

The spring mechanism let go all at once, all that built-up pressure releasing in a single explosive burst.‘’BOOM!’’They launched upward like a cannonball fired from the world's largest cannon. The acceleration was INSTANT,zero to maximum velocity in the span of a heartbeat. The arena floor fell away beneath them at dizzying speed.Ten feet. Sixty. At the peak of their arc, their upward momentum finally exhausted itself. For just a fraction of a second, they hung suspended in mid-air,weightless, floating, the world spread out beneath them. Then gravity remembered they existed. They started to fall."MIRA!" Sideways. The disc launched him forward like a springboard, propelling him in a long arc through the air.He flew maybe twenty feet before gravity started to take over again.Another Orange disc bloomed into existence right where he needed it.He landed, pushed, launched forward again. Then another disc. He turned to look at the teacher directly, his eyes wide."So ARE WE SURE and I really want you to think carefully before you answer this,ARE WE SURE that staying at ground level, at what is essentially ground zero for a dragon battle, is a SMART idea? Or should we maybe, possibly, perhaps consider RUNNING FOR OUR LIVES?!"His voice had risen to almost a shout by the end.The teacher glanced at him, and despite the obvious tension in his own body, he let out a small laugh. It sounded forced. Like he was trying to convince himself as much as Clarks."Clarks, you worry too much. You always have. Remember during the entrance exams when you were convinced the building was going to collapse?"He waved his hand dismissively, but his knuckles were white where they gripped the railing."This arena was built specifically to withstand extreme flame battles. The architecture is reinforced with flame-resistant materials. The structural supports are designed to handle impacts from high-level techn
