The police officer shrieked in his defense. "No. I swear I didn't. Your wife's step brother Harper is part of the plan too. He's the one taking her to him. "

Joel fell back in the chair, his head in his hands.

He was shocked that this was happening to him. He got up and tossed the chair to the wall in anger. His wife would be raped by Frank if he doesn't save her on time. To add to his worries, his daughter, Mimi, is sick. She has a heart disease and her surgery is in a month's time. He was still saving up for the surgery. He didn't want anything happening to her either.

"And where the fuck is my daughter?" Joel yelled at the policeman.

"I have no idea. Harper should know?"

Joel felt defeated. He couldn't believe his brother-in-law would connive with his enemies to put him behind bars and take his wife away.

"You don't have to worry. We would find their location," David Campbell said. He wanted Joel to remain calm. "I'll advise you to call your grandfather. He has been wanting to reach you for a long time but you’ve shut him out of your life."

"Do I have to go back to him? I left home five years ago because I can't deal with the pressure he's putting on me," Joel said, looking dispirited.

David Campbell nodded. "You should go back. Only your grandfather can help you fight this now. You might be surprised to see me here. It's because I was hired by your grandfather to watch you."

Joel was dumbstruck. All that was going was too much for Joel to take. He sighed. He knew David Campbell was right. If there was anyone who could help him get his family back and fight those after him; it's his grandfather.

Meanwhile, as Joel was with his grandfather, his wife, Anna, was dragged into the nightclub by Harper, her stepbrother. She realized too late that he was taking her to someone at a nightclub in a large hotel in the city.

"Don't make this any harder on me, Anna. Get up!" Harper yanked at Anna's hair. She yelled in pain and her little sick daughter, Mimi, clutched onto her tightly, crying.

"Please, Harper. Why are you doing this? This is no way to treat your sister. My husband—"

"Shut up! As we speak, that useless husband of yours is behind bars and will never be getting out."

Anna didn't want to believe what Harper just said.

"Behind bars? How is that possible? What did he do?" she cried out.

"That's not for me to explain to you. Your useless husband can't provide enough for you and your daughter. You've ended up leeching on me." His grip on her hair tightened. She cried out in pain. "I'm homeless now because I helped you borrow some money and you haven't paid it back. I used my house as collateral." Harper complained.

"If this is all about the money you gave to me, I swear I'll pay you back," Anna cried. "Joel knows nothing about it. He didn't even know I got the money from you."

"That's not my problem." He snarled. "Your husband's senior colleague, Frank Simsero, wants to have you for tonight. He will offer me some money for bringing you to him."

"Why did you lie to me, Harper?" Anna felt sick in her stomach, shocked by what Harper had said. He betrayed her. "You told me you were bringing me to a place where I would get a job so I would be able to find some money to give to Joel. You know that Mimi's surgery is in a month's time."

Harper smirked. "I had to lie because that's the only way I could bring you out of the house to this place without you suspecting anything."

"Please, don't do this to me."

He hissed, then dragged her until she was on her knees in front of a group of men.

"So this is Joel's wife. She's very pretty up close." Frank blurted, slowly inspecting Anna. "I couldn't stop thinking of how I would make her mine tonight after her husband goes to jail."

"I've delivered her as promised. She's all yours to do as you please."

Anna gasped. "Please, don't leave me in the hands of these men. How can you do this to your sister, Harper?"

Harper slapped her face and kicked her with his feet. All Anna could do was cry and shield her little child from getting hit by Harper's kicks.

Harper straightened his jacket and faced the men. "I'm sorry about that, gentlemen." His breathing was unsteady. "I need my money… so I can be on my way."

Frank waved his hand and one of his bodyguards handed Harper a few bundles.

"Enjoy yourselves," Harper said, tucking the money at the sides of his jacket.

Anna watched her heartless step brother disappear without even looking back. She felt hurt that she was brought to a stranger like a common prostitute. She knew she wouldn't escape getting raped tonight.

Frank Simsero, rubbed his hands in delight. "Now…now…show us what you've got. We aren't patient people. The sooner you get to it, the better."

Anna began to plead. "Please, let us go. I only needed some money for her surgery. That's why I followed Harper. I didn't know this was where he was bringing me to. He deceived me."

"I can't let you go honey…it's too sad your husband can't even foot the bills for his daughter's surgery. Pathetic!"

Tears trickled down her face. "My husband has saved up some money. We only knew about her heart condition last week. I'm only trying to help my husband with some of the money to—"

"Oh…please! Stop boring me with your family problems. Your husband would rot in jail. My bosses want him out of the way because of who is and I want him out of the way because I want to have sex with you tonight." He smirked. " Actually I'll be sharing you with my friends."

Anna didn't understand why everyone was telling her that her husband was in jail. He didn't come back home last night because he told her he had a lot of work to do. She thought he was still at the office.

"Please. Let us go," Anna continued to beg.

You startled me." Joel whispered, handing over Carson to Anna. "I think he's hungry." "Shhh…Baby. I'm here." She rocked the baby in her hands, then looked up at Joel. "I didn't rush in here just because the baby was crying. It's a coincidence that I just saw something on the news in the common room before coming here." "News? What did you see?" Joel asked, concern etched over his face. "I think you should tune in," she answered, her voice urgent. "It's something you need to see for yourself." Joel's curiosity heightened as he tuned into the channel Anna had suggested. What they saw and heard shook them to the very core. The name of the person speaking on the television was boldly written as 'Liam Brown Winston.' He was making a broadcast on television, he was using a handkerchief to wipe hi

Joel didn't know iw here to begin from but he was grateful to Anna that he's alive. "I still can't believe it's Emma who poisoned you."Albert said, when he turned around to face Joel. "She was playing me," Joel answered. "I wouldn't have believed myself if she wasn't there to say it herself.""This man who cliaked to be your half-brother, did he tell you why he wanted you dead?" Albert asked. "It's obvious. To exert revenge for what the Winston family did to him and his mother. He mentioned killing my grandfather because he never wanted to accept his as family." I'll get the lady of the house." Joel looked more confused. What lady of the house? And the nurse didn't even answer his question about where he was. Moments later she returned with Anna, who was excited. Joel couldn't believe who he had laid eyes upon. His eyes widened in shock as Anna rushed to his side, embracing him tightly. "I'm glad you're awake. It was taking forever," she exclaimed. Joel was silent for a while still trying to make out what was happening. How did Anna end up here? • Chapter 50: His Shields

Anna looked at her reflection in the mirror. The last twenty-four hours were one of the toughest for Anna in the last few months since she found herself in a hospital. Her uncle had held onto her hand and told her to fight and stay alive. She listened to him but regretted later when she heard that her daughter Mimi was found dead on the accident site. She splashed water onto her pale face. Losing Mimi was something she wasn't prepared for. Joel would have almost died if she hadn't gotten to his room when she did. She exhaled deeply, splashing more water on her face. She reminded herself that she was supposed to hate Joel for how he had treated her. He had accused her of killing his grandfather and didn't even wait to hear any explanation she had when he found out her real identity. "That's all in the past now." She whispered to herself, staring intensely at her reflection in the mirror. She pulled her phone from her pocket. She had to put a call through to her uncle. He was the on
