The problem was money.
Every business idea required capital, and he barely had enough savings to cover an unexpected expense. Still, he refused to abandon the idea. He had seen people rise from difficult circumstances through hard work and determination. There was no reason he could not do the same. When the bus reached his stop, Adrian climbed down and walked toward the large residential property where his employer lived. A tall metal gate stood at the entrance, guarded by two security officers. Beyond it was a beautiful compound with carefully trimmed lawns, decorative trees, and a wide driveway. Adrian approached the gate and greeted the guards. "Good morning." One of them nodded. "Morning, Adrian. You're early today." "I have to prepare the car before the boss comes out." The guard smiled. "You're always thinking about work." Adrian chuckled. "Someone has to." The gate opened, and he walked into the compound. A black luxury sedan stood beneath the covered parking area. Adrian had driven it for his employer on numerous occasions, and he knew the vehicle well enough to recognise the slightest unusual sound from its engine. He checked the tyres, inspected the exterior, and wiped away a few marks from the windscreen. By the time he finished, his employer's personal assistant was crossing the compound. "Adrian!" He turned. "Good morning, sir." "The boss wants to leave by eight. Make sure everything is ready." "Yes, sir. The car is ready." "Good." The assistant continued toward the main building. Adrian looked at his watch. He still had several minutes before his employer was expected to come outside. He used the time to inspect the vehicle's interior, making sure the seats were clean and the air conditioning worked properly. It was a routine he had followed almost every morning since taking the job. He took pride in his work. Although he was not wealthy, he believed that a person should never allow difficult circumstances to destroy his sense of responsibility. His employer might never notice how carefully he checked every detail, but Adrian knew he was doing his job properly. And for now, that was enough. --- At exactly eight o'clock, Adrian's employer emerged from the house. Mr. Harrison Cole was a successful businessman in his early fifties. He owned several commercial properties and had investments in different industries. He was known for his demanding nature and expected everyone working for him to perform their duties without unnecessary excuses. He wore a charcoal-grey suit and carried a leather briefcase. Adrian immediately opened the rear door of the sedan and bowed 360. "Good morning, sir." Harrison nodded and entered the vehicle. "Morning. Take me to the office first. I have a meeting at nine." "Certainly, sir." Adrian closed the door, walked around the vehicle, and climbed into the driver's seat. He started the engine and drove out of the compound. The journey began quietly. Harrison was occupied with his phone, reading messages and reviewing documents. Adrian kept his eyes on the road, concentrating on the heavy morning traffic. After several minutes, Harrison spoke. "Adrian." "Yes, sir?" "How long have you been working for me?" "Almost two years, sir." "Two years," Harrison repeated thoughtfully. "Yes, sir." Harrison continued looking at his phone. "Are you satisfied with your salary?" The question surprised Adrian. He glanced briefly at the rear-view mirror. "Sir?" "I asked whether you're satisfied with your salary." Adrian hesitated.Latest Chapter
NEW JOB

He placed his bag beside the bed and sat down for a moment before removing his shoes. Then he remembered the money in his wallet. He opened it and counted his earnings from the construction site once more. After setting aside the amount he needed for transportation and food, he added the remainder to his handbag savings. He recorded the

"I don't want it looking neglected.""Yes, sir.""And make sure it's ready by four. I may need to leave again.""I'll take care of it, sir."Harrison gave a brief nod and walke
NEW JOB
"Then don't let the work injure you. No amount of money is worth getting hurt.""I know. Thank you."Adrian adjusted his grip before lifting the next load.He wasn't interested in proving that he could lift more than everyone else. He simply wanted to complete the assigned work within the time available.By 11:30 a.m., he had finished clearing a substantial portion of the designated area. The foreman inspected his work and nodded."Not bad. Keep going, but don't rush so much that you make mistakes.""All right, sir."Adrian returned to work.He was tired, and his shirt clung to his back, but he continued at a steady pace.At 11:55 a.m., he took a short break to drink water. Then he checked his phone. There were no missed calls from Harrison. He breathed a sigh of relief. He still had time to complete the remaining section of his assignment. He return
NEW JOB
He had been considering returning for some timeNow, with three hours available, he saw an opportunity. He could earn extra money toward Vanessa's handbag without sacrificing his main salary. However, he knew the risk.Harrison had explicitly instructed him to remain available. If his employer called and discovered that he was somewhere else, Adrian could lose his job.And losing his job would leave him further away from the very thing he was trying to achieve.Adrian rubbed his palms against his trousers. He needed to calculate everything carefully. He couldn't simply leave and hope for the best.He had to make sure he could return before Harrison needed him. After a few minutes of consideration, he made his decision. He would go to the construction site, work for a limited period, and return well before the meeting ended. He would leave himself enough time for the j
NEW JOB
The following morning, Adrian woke up before his alarm rang. For a few seconds, he remained on his bed, staring at the ceiling. His body was still tired from the previous day's work, but he could not afford to spend another minute lying down. He turned toward the small table beside his bed and picked up his phone. There was no message from Vanessa. Adrian stared at their conversation briefly before locking the screen. He had hoped she would contact him during the night, but she hadn't. Nevertheless, he wasn't ready to give up on their relationship. He still loved her, and despite their recent disagreements, he wanted to make things right between them. His eyes moved toward the small notebook on his table. Inside it, he had written down his monthly expenses, the money he needed to send to his mother, a
THE PRICE OF LOYALTY
" Are you praising me or you are mocking me??"Adrian thought within because he did not know whether Harrison meant the statement as praise or a warning, so he simply nodded."I'll do my best, sir."Harrison returned to his documents."That's all for now. My assistant will contact you when the arrangements are finalised."Adrian thanked him and left the office. As he walked down the corridor, he felt a renewed sense of hope. The extra assignments could provide the additional income he needed. If he managed his money carefully, he might be able to save enough to buy Vanessa the handbag she wanted.Perhaps that would reassure her that he was not simply making empty promises. He knew an expensive bag could not fix every problem in their relationship, but it would be a start. At least, that was what he believed.---At approximately four o'clock, Adrian received a call from Harr
