THE BAG SHE DESPERATELY WANTED 1
“Adrian, are you even listening to me?” Vanessa’s sharp voice filled the small living room of their apartment. Adrian Blackwood, who sat on the edge of their old sofa with his phone in his hand, raised his head. He had just returned from work and had barely removed his shoes when his girlfriend began complaining. His body ached from a long day of driving, and all he wanted was a little rest before preparing something for dinner. But judging by the expression on Vanessa’s face, he was not going to get that rest anytime soon. “I’m listening, Vanessa,” he answered tiredly. “What is it?” Vanessa stared at him as though he had just insulted her. “What is it?” she repeated. “Adrian, did you just ask me what is it?” He sighed. “Baby, I’ve been listening to you for the past twenty minutes. You said something about your friends bu

The question struck him harder than she realised. Adrian opened his mouth, but the words did not come immediately. He worked six days a week as a personal driver for a wealthy businessman. His salary was modest, and after paying rent, buying food, covering transportation expenses, and taking care of their other needs, there was rarely much left. Still, he had never stopped trying. He had taken extra driving assignments whenever they were available. He had skipped meals on some occasions so that Vanessa could have enough money for the things she needed. He had even postponed buying himself new shoes because the old ones, although worn out, could still carry him to work. He had done all these things without complaining. Yet, standing before the woman he loved, he suddenly felt as though none of his efforts meant anything. “I work every day,

For several seconds, neither of them spoke. Adrian wanted to remind her of all the times he had stood beside her, all the sacrifices he had made, and all the nights they had spent discussing the future they hoped to build together. He wanted to ask whether she remembered the promises they had made when they had almost nothing. Instead, he swallowed his frustration. He loved Vanessa. Despite her temper, despite the arguments, and despite the way money had gradually become the centre of their relationship, a part of him still believed that they could overcome their problems. Perhaps she was only frustrated. Perhaps she needed reassurance. Perhaps, if he worked harder and earned more, the tension between them would disappear. He did not yet understand that sometimes a person could spend years trying to satisfy someone who had already decided that nothin
A WORLD OF DIFFERENCES 1
Vanessa pov Vanessa stepped out of the apartment and slammed the door behind her.For several seconds, she stood in the corridor, breathing heavily. Her face was twisted with frustration, and she clutched her handbag so tightly that her knuckles turned pale. She could not believe that Adrian had allowed their argument to end the way it had.Three years.I had spent three years with a man who still had to calculate his expenses before making even the smallest purchase. Three years of listening to promises about a better future. Three years of watching other women enjoy things she could only admire from a distance."" I am tired."" More than anything, I am tired of feeling ordinary."venessa thought within.Vanessa descended the stairs, pulled out her phone, and checked the time. It was already evening, but she had no intention of returning to the apartment anytime soon. Her eyes moved to a not

"The money?" Patricia asked.Vanessa nodded.Patricia leaned back in her chair."Honestly, I don't know how you do it."Vanessa's eyes lifted."What do you mean?""I mean, I could never be with a man who couldn't give me the things I wanted. Look at us. We're young. This is the time to enjoy life, not struggle through every single day."Chloe nodded in agreement."Exactly. There's nothing wrong with being hardworking, but a man should have something to show for it."Vanessa said nothing. She knew their words would only make her feel worse, yet she could not deny that part of her agreed with them.Patricia suddenly raised her left hand."Anyway, enough about Adrian. Look at this!"A beautiful bracelet glittered around her wrist.Chloe leaned forward."Oh my goodness! Is that the one you showed me online?""The very same one," Patricia replied prou

His eyes moved across the table before settling on Vanessa. For a moment, he studied her face."Have we met before?" he asked.Vanessa was caught off guard."I don't think so.""Strange. You look familiar."She offered a polite smile."Perhaps you've seen me somewhere.""Perhaps."Damian extended his hand."Damian Sterling."Vanessa shook it."Vanessa.""Beautiful name.""Thank you."He smiled slightly before glancing at the others."Enjoy your evening, ladies."Then he continued toward the corridor.Patricia waited until he was out of hearing distance before grabbing Vanessa's arm."Did you hear that?""Hear what?""He said you look familiar!""He was just being polite.""Vanessa, please. You have to stop acting as though you don't understand these things."Chloe laughe

He wanted to say that the money was not enough. He wanted to explain that the cost of living had increased and that he had responsibilities beyond himself. But he also understood that complaining without a solution might not help him."I'm grateful for the job, sir," he answered carefully. "But if there is an opportunity to earn more, I would appreciate it."Harrison finally raised his head."hmmm.. technically."Adrian kept driving."thankyou sir."Harrison studied him for a moment before returning his attention to the phone."I may need someone to handle additional driving assignments over the next few weeks. There will be some late evenings, and the schedule may be inconvenient."Adrian immediately became attentive."That won't be a problem, sir.""You haven't even heard the details.""I'm willing to hear them, sir."Harrison gave a short laugh."All right. I'll speak to my assistant about it. If the arrangement goes ahead, you'll be informed.""Thank you very much, sir."Adrian fe

Adrian povThe following morning, Adrian woke up before his alarm rang. For a few seconds, he lay still, staring at the ceiling of the small bedroom he shared with Vanessa. The previous evening's argument returned to his mind almost immediately. He turned his head toward her side of the bed.It was empty. The blanket had been pushed aside, and her pillow lay untouched. Adrian frowned slightly before reaching for his phone on the bedside table. There was no new message from Vanessa. He checked the time.6:10 a.m.He had to leave for work in less than an hour. With a quiet sigh, Adrian sat up, rubbed his face, and climbed out of bed. He walked into the bathroom, washed his face, and brushed his teeth before returning to the bedroom to get dressed. His wardrobe contained only a few shirts suitable for work. He selected a clean white shirt, dark trousers, and his black shoes. One of the sh

The problem was money.Every business idea required capital, and he barely had enough savings to cover an unexpected expense.Still, he refused to abandon the idea.He had seen people rise from difficult circumstances through hard work and determination. There was no reason he could not do the same. When the bus reached his stop, Adrian climbed down and walked toward the large residential property where his employer lived.A tall metal gate stood at the entrance, guarded by two security officers. Beyond it was a beautiful compound with carefully trimmed lawns, decorative trees, and a wide driveway.Adrian approached the gate and greeted the guards."Good morning."One of them nodded."Morning, Adrian. You're early today.""I have to prepare the car before the boss comes out."The guard smiled."You're always thinking about work."Adrian chuckled."Someone has
THE PRICE OF LOYALTY
By the time Adrian returned to Harrison Cole's office, the afternoon sun was shining brightly over the city.He parked the black sedan in its usual spot, checked the envelope on the passenger seat, and stepped out of the vehicle. The documents had been delivered safely, and he had received confirmation from the office that everything was in order. It was a small assignment, but Adrian was satisfied.Every day he worked without complaint, hoping that his efforts would eventually lead to something better. He had no powerful connections, no wealthy relatives he could call for help, and no savings large enough to change his circumstances overnight. All he had was his job and his determination to make something of himself. He was about to enter the building when his phone rang.Vanessa.Adrian's face brightened immediately. He answered the call."Hello, baby.""Where are you?"
