“I need my bag. Oh! For Fonare’s sake! I’ll be back in no time!” said Uzei and went down the stairs of the tower running in hurry.

“What?” asked Hara shouting after him. “Uzei wait! You can’t leave now!”

“I will be back really soon!” said Uzei.

“Uzei!” she shouted again.

He was now two floors under her. A few floors later he was out of the tower. Hara was going to get mad probably. Because if he stopped and answered her, she wouldn’t let him go now. He quickly looked up the sky and ran to his street. His house was close to the tower.

In every city in Fonare, there were about eight or nine towers. These towers were to protect them from any outside threat. Long ago, when a future seer saw the storm was going to happen, he warned Fonarel and asked them to build towers and educate those who have the power to generate shields. After his warning, they have made many towers alongside the country. Mages were educated and were ready now. In days like this, the mages and the talented people would take responsibility and contribute their power and talents to protect their country and cities.

Today, as the long-waited storm was coming, the entire nation was ready for it. Uzei and Hara were the most talented students in their city Coreda. It wasn’t a big city, but it wasn’t a small one either. It had about 650.000 people as the population and it was one of the southern cities. His school was one of the most popular schools in the city and both Uzei and Hara were the popular kids for their talents.

As the storm was on its way, their teachers chose them for Tower 6 to amplify the shield, because the two of them could do this easily. And that day, Uzei was honored to be the one for that duty. He knew Hara before, but they weren’t much close back then. After the duty election, they became best friends and shared a lot of things. Sometimes they came to the tower and practiced their talents to be ready for the day that was coming. And ever since then they shared almost everything. He knew that he could trust her his life. Hara was a tough and hard girl to love, but once she decided you were a good one, she would do anything for you.

In time, as they both got closer and closer, Uzei lowered his walls and let that beautiful girl in. These days they both were inseparable. Uzei had such a deep love and respect for her. Their bound was going to live forever. He knew it. Sometimes you just knew.

Yet, as of today, Uzei needed to go back home to get his other backpack, which he prepared it a few days ago but when he needed to take Leati to the shelter, he forgot it at home. He spent a few hours in the tower with Hara and he didn’t even realize that he had forgotten it. But then suddenly he remembered. And now he was running home.

He was fast. He always liked running or swimming or many other sports. The road was swirling down like a spiral as he kept running. The trees acted like they knew something was coming. In school, they were taught that all beings could sense the changes that would come. The entire planet was sensitive about it. It was like a super-giant root system. Well, these subjects were really cool, but he needed to forget about these and get home and come back as soon as he could.

He approached the street. It was empty. Everyone was in their pre-selected places to wait for the storm. Children and old people were already in the shelters. The others were ready to prevent anything that would happen. The soldiers and warriors were already in their needed locations.

Fonare was a peaceful place, but last year these crazy people from Zuana declared war at their country. It was definitely ridiculous. First, they asked help to get in Ena Vuer and Tigarid to solve the virus problem, which wasn’t even possible, but when Fonare didn’t accept it, which was naturally their right choice not to participate in that stupid situation, because the virus transformed into a new level and it was obvious and dangerous, Zuana considered Fonare as their enemy.

For goodness sake, Zuanal were really stupid. How could they declare war at Fonare? This country was the most powerful land in entire planet. Of course, Uzei didn’t know much about Vietal but still, Fonare had a magical power.

He went in the house and ran the upstairs to his room. His parents were at the government building to help any unwanted situation due to the storm. The government building was the central communication place until the storm passes. The house was so silent and that gave him an urge to hurry. He found his backpack on his bed. As he took it and quickly went down to the stairs and grabbed another bottle of water, he immediately got out and then he was outside again. He started running back to the tower. It was important not to leave the tower especially during this coming disaster.

He urged and as he was about to leave the neighborhood, he saw someone running to the government street.

It was a young boy. And not just any boy.

“Leati?” he screamed. The boy instantly stopped and looked around. Uzei ran back to him. His chicks were wet with sweat. He seemed to be in rush. “What the hell are you doing here and why are you outside of the shelter?” In the meantime, he put out a tissue to dry his brother’s sweat.

“Uzei!” the boy said in rush and excitement. “Maypidi, the old woman sent me. I need to find Mienoi. It’s important!” The clouds were getting closer with every word they talked.

“Tell me fast then.” He looked at his little brother. Leati was still thirteen and he was always a curious boy, probably due to his age.

“There is that little girl named Velia.” His brother answered quickly. He would talk rapidly whenever he was excited. “She is a seer. And she saw that song being sung.”

“Which song?” asked Uzei.

“That song. From Golmira.”

“The Farewell?”

“Yes!”

“And being sung where?”

“In Golmira. Right now.”

“This is not possible. Go back to the shelter and don’t listen to that old crazy woman.”

“No!” said the boy. “It is important, and I believe in her. She was crying and I saw it all.”

“But Mienoi can’t do anything about it right now. We are in the middle of a crisis and you will go back to the shelter.”

“No!” said the boy again. “It is really important that I deliver this information. I think, it will change everything in Liumira.”

“Don’t be stupid! Later, I said!”

“No!” said Leati and started to run to the government street.

“Leati!” shouted Uzei. “Come back you little stupid boy!” But he already disappeared. “Oh, damn it!” said Uzei and ran back to the tower. “You stupid child! You idiot!” he said angrily.

The Farewell was an old song and to be honest, whenever Uzei hear it, it would give him a deep sadness. He knew Velia. She was a little girl who could see anything at the present. But only at the present. She was a present seer. Seers were interesting. Some would see the past, some the present and some the future. He thought about the present. The song was sung in Golmira. At this very moment. It was really weird.

“It took longer you stupid!” yelled Hara when she saw him going up. He was all wet because of the he run all the way back.

“Sorry,” he said. “I saw Leati when coming back.”

“Now?” she asked in a worried voice. It seemed Hara already forgot her anger because of his leaving without answering her.

“Yes.”

“What was he doing? That child is really crazy.”

“I know. He said he needed to deliver some information to Mienoi.”

“What could it be so important?”

“The Farewell.”

“The Farewell? You mean that threnody?”

“Yes.”

“Will you explain more?” Suddenly Hara's voice was full of interest.

“He said that Velia, that little seer girl, saw someone singing it.”

“But it is a well-known song. What is the difference?”

“He said it was sung in Golmira, at this very moment.”

“No way!”

“I didn’t want to believe either.”

“No, I mean no way!”

“What do you mean?”

“I saw it in my dream last night. The entire sky was burning down. The song was floating in the air like a floating energy. It was both sad and beautiful. I felt like I was the one who the song was sung for. It was so heartbreaking. I swear. It was so weird!”

“Don’t put out new meanings to your dream. I see a lot of crazy dreams and most of them are about that storm.”

“It is weird.” She said. “I mean Velia. She sees only the present. And if this is true, then there are people in Golmira right now! Right now, Uzei! This is huge! Like really huge!” She united her arms in her chest and started walking in the hall of the tower. He looked at her weird behaviors. But then he saw the sky cracking.

A huge lightening went throughout the clouds and a brightness covered the sky.

“Here it goes,” said Uzei. “Are you ready?”

Hara immediately came back to her position and they both started to amplify the shield. But neither of them knew that it wasn’t just a storm. The coming days would show it all.

And Uzei would think about this day a lot.

In sorrow.
