Chapter III

His father had no other choice but going into the house to share with his wife what his son had just told him. He went upstairs to the bedroom where his wife was. She was arranging clothes she had got from laundry in the wardrobe. David approached her and decided to share everything with her including, why he had left the military.

Once David entered the bedroom door, she turned to look at him. From the look on his face, she knew something had gone terribly wrong.

“That is not the face I was expecting. I assume things did not go as expected with your son,” Jessica expressed to him mockingly.

He sat on the rear edge of the bed, “Actually, we have talked more than I thought we could. We made a good connection and, I got him to open up…although…it was short-lived,” he exclaimed.

Jessica stopped folding the clothes and looked at him, “Then what happened after the connection…Did you lose the signal or what? Anyway, I am just curious. What did you have to say or do for his attention? I never expected you to spend that much time together.”

“The truth…my dear…I just told the truth. As a father, I have a way with my son…you know. I decided to share what I have been keeping from you two about why I left the army, which…you also need to know.”

She sat on the bed beside him to give a better ear, “Well, leave your story for another day. Right now…tell me about Jonas.”

He turned to look at her, “Okay, after I told him my story, he opened up about school and the reason for his low grades but…the truth is…he really needs help.”

She moved closer to him as she got more curious, “What do you mean? Is that why he left; you lecturing him about how he needs help!”

Defending himself looking somewhat confused and worried, David responded, “No. I did not lecture him. We just disagreed when he claimed to be stressed because, and mark my words, he is afraid of what he might do to the rude boys in school.”

Jessica looked to the side briefly and back to him, “That’s interesting. What about it?” she behaved as if she was trying to access her memory.

“Apparently, your son thinks he has a gift, or, some sort of powers; powers that make him very dangerous to the very huge-intimidating boys. As if that’s not enough, he talked something about dreams.”

He reached his hand to hold hers, “do you remember the dreams he used to have as a child…the nightmares?”

She placed her other hand on top of his as well, “Of course, how can I forget? I used to wake up all the time at the middle of the night to get him back to sleep; what about them?”

“He claims that, after he discovered his gift, he had an epiphany and realized they were not just dreams as well.”

Jessica seemed interested in the topic and wanted to hear more, “Aha, and what did he say they were if not dreams? What did he epiphanize them to be?” she asked with marvel.

“He says they are visions about the world and what is about to happen,” David answered.

On hearing those words, Jessica went mute and froze a few seconds. She looked like; she had an epiphany herself, or, she was wishing to turn back time and make some adjustments. When David saw her reaction, he was worried and wondered about what his wife knew more of their son that he never knew.

“Honey, what’s wrong? Did I say something bad or, why did you just go mute? Why are you acting strange just like him? You are getting me worried here, talk to me.”

She switched back to her usual state, “Never mind, it’s…it’s nothing. You said nothing wrong; I am fine. It’s just that…” she implied pulling her hands away.

He grew impatient, “Just what honey? Talk to me, I am totally freaked out right now. What’s going on?”

“About those dreams and the epiphany…how did he mean the world was coming to an end?”

“What is the meaning of that question? Does it really matter how the world ends…an end is just an end.”

“It may sound strange and not important to you but, I need his exact words describing it,” she insisted.

“Alright; he did mention people’s talk about the apocalypse…something in relation to Revelation, and…by the look of things, my world seems to be ending right about now. Please let me in, what do you know that I don’t?”

She stood up on her feet and walked to the window. She then looked outside, “Those were the words she used to describe it.”

David stood as well and walked right to her, “describe what honey, and…the she you talk about…who is she?” he asked.

She turned to look him right into the eye, “I never thought this day would come but, it seems she was not deranged after all.” She added.

He reached and took both of her hands and they faced each other, “What day and who was not deranged? Can you stop speaking in riddles like Jonas and use proper language that I can understand…please? In case you forgot honey, I am just a soldier…a sniper…not a linguist or a literature teacher in some College or High School.”

She released one of his hands and turned pulling him towards the door, “Sorry about that but, I think you need to come with me on this one. There is something I would like you to see first.”

David resisted pulling her back as well, “Before we go to wherever you want us to go, does this have to do with what Jonas was saying being true?” he pried.

She turned to him, “How I wish it did not, but, I would rather you give that answer to yourself after seeing what I have to show you. Some things are better seen than heard. To see is to believe…you know.”

He softened and decided to follow her to wherever she had in mind to have him answer the questions he had.
