Chapter 2: Birthing?

"MAYBE I TRANSMIGRATED into another world?" Ryle was playing jokes with himself.

The young Ryle was bored, so he was theorizing anything he could think of to satiate his boredom; this was Ryle's hobby in his past life. The young man was still sane and he was sure that he was in the same world; he wasn't even sure if there were other worlds that existed, he just wanted to kill time.

Time passed by quickly; Ryle could feel that he had the mana now to execute a healing magic. Wasting to time, he began to circulate his mana and uttered the incantation in his mind. His expression turned ugly when nothing happened, so with difficulty, he opened his mouth and said, "18th Healing: Stiches of Recuperation!"

To no avail, Ryle could still not feel his mana responding to him. If someone was able to witness Ryle do such thing, they would laugh their lungs out 'till they die — that was the most shameful thing a wizard could ever commit. Ryle was somehow embarrassed, at the same time confused; he was the the genius among geniuses and he was from the Medical Division, yet he wasn't capable of performing even a lower order of healing magic? What a disappointment!

Ryle was now pondering what could go wrong, but then it occurred to him that he was no longer Ryle, but Jadren; his current body was a cripple who did only know fire and water magic. The young man decided to meditate, hoping there were any magic vessels that his predecessor wasn't able to awaken.

It didn't long for Ryle's consciousness to wander inside a void. He already knew that Jadren only had water and fire magic, but personally witnessing an almost empty void with only three vessels, Ryle couldn't help but cry in dismay; he had almost lost his focus!

However, when he happened to look at the vessel that was as large as his body and was glowing in lime light, his heart rejoiced — his myriad life vessel transmigrated along with him! Still, this wasn't enough to light up his mood; he didn't find any vessel that could be awakened inside Jadren's void.

"I haven't seen a wizard with so least potential as Jadren." Ryle was in complete disbelief as he stared at the vessels of fire and water magic. In his past life, his void was filled with couples of vessels, each was as large as his body!

Ryle was now trying to find ways on how to heal himself; although he already knew what to do, he refused to acknowledge it. Looking at the myriad life vessel who he had put so much effort on cultivating, he couldn't afford to sacrifice even a portion of it just to awaken a healing vessel.

Vessels were ball-shaped in nature that lies inside a wizard's void; they serve as the reservoir of magic and were the reason why wizards could cast orders. There were three ways to awaken a vessel: (1) through ceremonial awakening which could only happen once: when a wizard turned eight years old, (2) by absorbing enough elemental particles from an artifact and (3) birthing, a process exclusive only to myriad vessels, wherein a myriad vessel would break a portion of itself and turn it to a vessel of the same attribute.

The first was impossible, aside from the fact that Jadren had been through the ceremonial awakening, the vessels a wizard would gain from ceremonial awakening was random. The second would only possible if Ryle had an artifact that possessed healing attribute with him on his pockets right now, but that wasn't the case. Contrarily, the last one was plausible, since Ryle had a myriad vessel — his myriad life — it could give birth to healing, plant, flower or any vessels which had the attribute of life.

Even though the size of Ryle's myriad life vessel was as big as his body since its cultivation was not damaged along with the transmigration, he refused to sacrifice even a portion of it. He was aware that everything comes with a price, but the cultivation of his myriad life for a healing vessel? That price just didn't sit right to him. Ryle could easily find a healing artifact, collect an ample amount of it, then awaken a vessel!

IT HAS BEEN a while; Ryle still didn't dare to touch his myriad life. However, after some time of inspecting the situation he was under, Ryle gained an understanding that there was no other way around. Help was not coming at any moment; the place where he and old man who killed him landed was in the middle of a forest. If Ryle would decide to idle for an hour more, his wounds would get worse and the smell of blood would attract magic beasts who would later swarm his body and the old man's.

"Death... no — a torture. Yes, a torture! The people who forced me to sacrifice a portion of my myriad life's cultivation... I would beat them up, heal them, then beat them up again; this process will be repeated for a hundred times, 'till they beg me to take their lives away," said Ryle, full of resentment, then he went into meditation.

In the void, Ryle commanded the vessel of myriad life to undo its form. The lime circle that had the size of a human, gradually began to be dissolved into tiny particles; due to its size, it took the vessel a while for it to be successful dispersed in the void. Upon successfully scattering the particles of myriad life in the void, Ryle commanded a small group of particles to condense again, but changed its properties to healing instead of myriad life. Ryle did the same to the rest of the particles, but he didn't change their properties.

After Ryle was done condensing the particles, there were four vessels in his void now: blue, red, lime and mint. The blue in color was the vessel of water magic and was restful in its position; the same was true for the vessels of fire magic and myriad life. On the other hand, the color mint vessel: the healing magic was like a planet revolving around a star; its size was too small while it was revolving around the myriad life.

The vessel of healing magic orbiting the vessel of myriad life was not because of it being given birth by the latter, but because hierarchy didn't only exist among wizards or families, but in magic as well. Ordinary magics were deemed as inferior to divergent and myriad magics; if any of the two were present in the void, ordinary magics would revolve around either of them as long as it is of the same element. Examples of ordinary magics were fire, water, land, plant, metal, and so on.

Divergent magics on the other hand, were the evolved form of ordinary magics. There were a couple of them and in fact, their number exceeded the ordinary magics, because one ordinary magic had a lot of divergent magics. Take the ordinary magic, fire, for an example. Fire magic had a lot of divergent magics such as blue flame magic, crimson fire magic, death fire magic, etc. These divergent magics were far stronger than the ordinary magics, if the two clashed; for an example, fire against blue flame, the former would lost. Divergent magics were rare though, although they numbered a lot, there were only few wizards who wielded them because of the rarity of artifacts about them.

Lastly, the purest and highest form among magics were called myriad magics; there were only eight of them: myriad life, myriad sun, myriad night, myriad fluid, myriad earth, myriad sky, myriad space, and myriad time. Divergent magics and ordinary magics would bow down under the presence of a myriad magic of the same attribute, however if the ordinary magic and divergent magic didn't have the same attribute as the myriad magic, it would not submit. For example, Ryle; he had myriad life, fire, water, and healing magic — only the healing magic did revolve around the myriad life as only the two shared the same attribute.

Right now, Ryle released a sigh; the birthing was a success. Nonetheless, Ryle did not feel elated about it, but regretful; he couldn't feel that he gained something, but instead lost big time. His years of cultivation in myriad life had decreased for a mere healing vessel. If only he had lost his cultivation in a fight, he wouldn't think badly about it, but it wasn't the case, but the other way around.

"Stiches of Recuperation," uttered Ryle. Since the healing magic came from Ryle's myriad life, he gained a portion of the latter's mastery; he needed no longer to mention the the first verse of the chant.

As Ryle finished mentioning the passage, he could feel his mana transforming into healing particles. Threads colored in mint appeared in Ryle's hands; they made their way to the young man's wounds, stitched them so they would close and then was slowly healing them. Ryle could feel that the pain he was feeling was now slowly subsiding.

Ryle authorized his magic to do their thing, while he rested. The treatment would surely take a while, given it was a lower order: the 18th Healing. Ryle was partly blaming Jadren on why he had sacrificed his cultivation in myriad life. If only Ryle had a larger mana core, he could've just use the 10th Myriad Life and he would be healed in an instant, thus, the birthing should have been unnecessary.

Half an hour passed; the soreness of Ryle's body had finally subsided. Threads colored in mint were still everywhere in his body; an indication that Ryle wasn't totally healed yet. Still, Ryle forced himself to stand up; he did it with difficulty. As he perfomed stretches to warm up his body, Ryle saw the dead old man who was behind Jadren's death.

"You really dared to make my little myriad life sacrifice himself," with blood-red eyes Ryle said. "20th Fire: Fireball."

The murderer's body was now burned into crisp; not only did Ryle released one fireball, but three. Although the young man could do five, he held back as he would empty his mana core and he might suffer the same end as the old man. Ryle might be fuming with hatred, but he was still rational.

Before leaving the area, Ryle searched for the man's belongings; he found a strange looking token. In Jadren's memories, he didn't know the old man let alone offended him; someone must had sent him to kill Jadren. Ryle was sure to find out who did it; that was the least that he could do for his predessor and to avenge the cultivation of his myriad life.
