Chapter 4: Wife Wants A Divorce!

Looking at the small villa before his eyes, Jonathan was far from happy.

He had started working in his youth and founded an architectural firm worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

When he married Orla, he bought this small villa worth a few million dollars.

He had treated her sincerely, but all he received in return was betrayal and imprisonment...!

Knock, knock, knock!

Jonathan knocked on the door.

Soon, the door opened from the inside.

The person opening the door for Jonathan was a stunningly beautiful woman, well-maintained with a creamy complexion. Jonathan stared at her momentarily, a sense of unfamiliarity hanging between them as if several lifetimes had passed.

"You're back?"

Orla, too, seemed shocked, her face alarmed: "You got out yesterday. I had some issues and couldn't meet you. Can you understand?"

"It's fine, and I'm out now anyway. What's this? Are you blocking the door to keep me out?" Jonathan asked a playful edge in her eyes.

"Alright, come in..."

As he walked in, Jonathan's expression became strangely contorted. Not only was Orla present in the house, but two others.

One of them was his father-in-law, Marcus William.

The other was a more compelling character, Edward Tremblay!

Six years ago, he and Edward Tremblay were considered rivals.

Edward Tremblay had used his connections to snatch away several projects from Jonathan, but he could have managed them better due to his lack of talent, and Edward's company never took off.

Tommy once mentioned that Orla sold her company to Edward and had an ambiguous relationship with him.

Despite his mental preparation, seeing this with his own eyes still stabbed Jonathan in the heart.

"Jonathan, you're out of prison. What a joyous occasion! Tonight, Orla and I have guests for a party to celebrate your return." Edward suddenly reached out to hold Orla's hand, a provocative smile on his lips.

Orla's face seemed uncomfortable, but she didn't pull away.

"I think you owe me an explanation, don't you?" Jonathan looked at Orla.

At this point, Orla dropped her act.

She raised her head to look straight at Jonathan and said: "Yes, what you see is correct. I'm dating Edward, and we're getting engaged at the Way Heaven Hotel in two days! Jonathan, Edward has cared for me for the past six years.

His genuine affection has moved me. He's the man I want to spend my life with! If you are a man, you will let us be, and please divorce me!"

He served time for his brother-in-law and spent over six years in prison.

When he returned, his wife boldly declared that she wanted a divorce to marry another man.

The bitter agony of it all, only he could truly comprehend.

His father-in-law - Marcus William, stood up and then, with an air of entitlement, said:

"Jonathan, Edward is not a narrow-minded man. He has agreed with Orla to arrange a job for you in his company, so you don't have to wander the streets. We've already been considerate! You should let go and part ways with Orla. We can still be friends in the future!".

"Wander the streets?"

Jonathan laughed and looked at Orla coldly: "I'd like to know, when I went to prison, I was a modest boss with several hundred million USD. Despite the struggles, I'm nowhere near having to wander the streets, am I?"

Jonathan couldn't help but remember Orla's words: 'Wait for you. When you come back, we'll live a happy life together.'

Looking back now, it seemed like a joke!

Facing Jonathan's gaze, Orla seemed momentarily flustered but immediately regained her composure. After all, a face-off was inevitable sooner or later.

So she lifted her head to look at Jonathan, saying with determination: "My business management was poor. We suffered continuous losses on several projects, and debts piled up. Therefore, I sold the company to Edward and sold the house to my father. Jonathan, now you are not only poor, but you also owe Edward several hundred million dollars!"

Jonathan felt as if he was hearing the most ridiculous joke ever. He was both angry and amused.

Had he taken the fall for his sister-in-law for six years just for his wife, Orla, to manage the company in such a manner?

Ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous!

"Jonathan, Orla is right! She needed to learn how to run the company, resulting in numerous debts. If it weren't for me buying this house from you and Edward purchasing your company to help you, the company would have declared bankruptcy by now! So, you indeed owe Edward five million dollars!"

Marcus said without a shred of embarrassment, appearing rather pleased.

He implied that they had drained his company and accumulated many debts. What could he do to them now?

Jonathan swallowed his anger, looking coldly at Marcus: "You bought my mansion. May I ask where you got the money from?"

His wife's family was far from an average family's financial status when he was around. His father-in-law was deeply addicted to gambling, betting, horse racing, and lottery, and he dabbled in all.

How many times had Jonathan had to deal with his losses?

Did he have the money to buy his mansion? Even a fool wouldn't believe it!

Marcus knew what kind of person he was. Jonathan's question made him uncomfortable.

But immediately, he spoke confidently, even turning the tables: "I've made money from horse racing over the years! How dare you question that? When you and Orla were together, I lost every day! But since you went to jail, it's as if the betting gods have blessed me. I've won several million over the years, enough to buy your mansion!"

Perhaps his boasting was over the top, so even Orla and Edward seemed to twitch a little, looking uncomfortable.

"Alright, I've asked Edward. I understand that you just got out of prison, and it's difficult. As long as you sign the divorce papers and agree to leave the house empty-handed, the five million dollar debt is forgotten!"

Orla didn't want to drag this out any longer, so she promptly delivered her prepared statement.

The five million dollar debt to Jonathan was a colossal amount that he couldn't repay. She didn't believe Jonathan would dare to not compromise.

As long as Jonathan signed the divorce papers and agreed to leave the house empty-handed, all assets owned by Jonathan would belong to her!

"Not only will the debt be forgiven, but out of respect for Orla, I'll arrange a job for you at the company so you won't end up on the street! Jonathan, I have been magnanimous, not holding past grudges against you. You should know when to stop!"

Edward's first half of the sentence indicated his generosity, while the second half was a blatant threat.

What he meant was if Jonathan did not compromise, he should not blame him for not being respectful.

Jonathan found himself at a loss for words, his wife and outsider conspiring to rob him of his assets, even going so far as to demand his gratitude. He felt a heart-wrenching pain as if his heart was on the brink of dying.

Perhaps it was at this moment that Jonathan's heart indeed died. He nodded slowly: "Alright, I agree to the divorce."

Orla was overjoyed, thinking she would have to resort to various threats and inducements to make Jonathan agree to leave the house penniless, costing her quite a bit of effort.

But to her surprise, Jonathan agreed so firmly!

Edward laughed, tauntingly saying: "If that's the case, I'll certainly keep my promise of arranging a job for you. You started your career as a worker when you first started your business, so I'll arrange for you to be a worker again. It wouldn't be a career change, would it?"

Orla and Marcus also thought the same way a person like Jonathan could only do a lowly job like a worker!

"No need."
