Chapter 5

Rex wanted to continue a normal life, but things would change after tonight’s incident. He believed when he got to the college tomorrow morning, Julio and his gang would keep apologizing. Arrogant people like them could not stand living in poverty.

Still, Rex had no regrets about revealing his identity to them. His father’s words were indeed true. Normal life did not always bring him peace. Sometimes people could become arrogant just because they have little wealth.

“Young Master, we have arrived.”

Morris’s words snapped Rex out of his daydream. He stopped thinking about the bullies and quickly got out of the car. As soon as he set foot on the ground, everyone present immediately bowed to him.

“Welcome back, Young Master!” they shouted in unison.

Rex simply nodded and motioned for them to stand back up. Then he went into the big house in front of him. It was the house where he spent his childhood in luxury.

There were always people who would help him. They would even pick up his fallen pencil while he was studying. However, all such luxuries disappeared when he left his family at the age of fifteen.

Five years later, Rex returned to this house and everyone there welcomed him with enthusiasm. When he arrived in the living room, he saw his father talking with his mother. They immediately stopped talking after noticing his appearance.

“My beloved son!” Carlton, Rex’s father, hastily stood up to put his arm around his son’s shoulders. He smiled happily as he said, “I think Morris lied when he reported that you were coming back home.”

Rex smiled too after seeing how excited his father was. “How are Mom and Dad doing?” he asked.

“We’re doing good, haha,” Carlton answered on behalf of Alyssa, his wife. Then he led Rex to sit down and asked the waiter to prepare tea.

“I’m glad to see you’re all right,” Rex spoke while holding Alyssa’s hand.

“You haven’t told Dad how you’ve been.”

“That’s because Dad didn’t ask.”

Carlton laughed while patting Rex on the back and stopped when his son showed an annoyed expression. “I forgot to ask. So, how have you been all this time? Are you living well?” he asked.

“As you can see, I’m fine. My life is also good because I can survive for five years without your help,” explained Rex proudly to himself.

However, Alyssa was not happy with her son’s decision to leave the family five years ago. “If you’re fine, then why did you come back to us? I heard from Morris that you were bullied during high school.”

“Ah, Uncle Morris really can’t keep his mouth shut. You don’t have to worry because I’m fine with that, Mom.”

Alyssa took a deep breath and touched Rex’s injured face. It was obvious that the wound came out today. With a gloomy face, she asked, “Who did this to you? Mom will crush their bones!”

“They have bullied me for years, Mom. Wouldn’t it be unfair to destroy them right away? At least they should endure the same pain as me,” Rex smiled as he took his mother’s hand.

His words made Carlton heave a sigh of relief. He thought Rex would forgive the bullies because Morris reported that his son had become kind after leaving the family. When Rex was in the Quillon family, he was merciless when anyone insulted him.

In the past, there was a new bodyguard who looked down on Rex because when he was young, he did not talk too much. The next day, the bodyguard was admitted to the hospital with serious injuries. The young Rex beat him badly, and the incident made everyone in the family respect him.

Therefore, Carlton was very surprised when he found out that Rex’s personality had changed drastically. His son became calmer and did not care when someone insulted him. That was the reason why Carlton let Rex live out there. He thought it would train his son’s patience.

“Dad,” Rex called, making Carlton stop daydreaming and look at him. “I have indeed returned to this family, but I don’t want to see in public yet. Can you grant my wish?”

“That’s an easy request. However, Dad would like to ask something in return,” Carlton said, gesturing to Morris who had been standing beside him.

Moments later, Carlton received the iPad Morris had given him. He turned on the iPad and showed it to Rex. “This is the location of all the Quillon Family supermarkets in Struthia City. Don’t you continue your studies at Struthia University?”

“Yes, I do. Is there a problem with the supermarkets?” Rex raised an eyebrow curiously.

“You’re right. Since three months ago thugs have appeared around the supermarket location. They ask for large amounts of parking money and sometimes steal vehicles from customers. Their crimes made customers not want to shop at our supermarkets anymore.”

“Have you ever sent our people to beat them up?”

Carlton swiped across the iPad screen to show a photo of injured people lying in hospital beds. “Dad has sent men to beat up the thugs. But they are too strong.”

“Oh, it looks like they’re no ordinary thugs.”

“That’s right. These thugs are trained people from the underworld hired by Ramon Ward. He owns a retail and supermarket business, so he is always trying to destroy our family company. Not only in Struthia city, but he also sends people to the other city.”

That explanation was enough for Rex to conclude. The Quillon family was not a weak family that would lose to a bunch of thugs. However, the family also had many businesses, so it was difficult to solve the problems at once.

Nonetheless, that did not mean the Quillon family could not handle the supermarkets’ problem. Rex realized his father could have sent more powerful people to solve the problem. Unfortunately, his father did not do that because he had a specific purpose.

“Do you want to test my abilities?” Rex asked with a smile.

Carlton immediately nodded. “I don’t mean to doubt your abilities, but after all, you’ve only been back after five years. You haven’t learned anything in that long. Your first task after returning is to solve the supermarket problem.”

“I see. So, when can I start working on this?”

“Whenever you want.”

“Then I will sleep now and solve the problem tomorrow.”

After saying that, Rex said goodbye to his parents and go to his room. It had been a long time since he had set foot in that room. His room did not change at all. There was still a computer that he used often before.

Rex could not wait to go to sleep and greet the sun tomorrow morning. He clenched his fists, smiling because he was finally able to practice his strength head-on. Also, he had come up with a well-thought-out plan to take revenge on Julio. It was revenge that could not end with just an apology.

Meanwhile, in the living room, Alyssa was persuading her husband not to give Rex a difficult mission. “Our son just got back and you’ve already given him a load! At least Rex should get some training before solving the supermarket problem,” she protested.

“We can’t spoil Rex anymore because he’s the next heir of our family. You think the enemy will wait for him to train until he becomes strong before attacking him?” said Carlton, rejecting his wife’s words.

“Still, the situation is different.”

“I don’t want to let him continue to relax when the enemy has made moves long ago.”

Carlton’s decision was final and could not be contested by anyone. He had given Rex five years of freedom because he wanted his son to have emotional control. However, from today onwards, he was not going to make it easy for his son, the heir to the Quillon family.
