Chapter 6

CHAPTER 6:

Karina started to scan the whole house in a second she enters. She just wanted to make sure that she was not going to die cleaning a huge house. Most importantly, the reason why she insisted to meet the guy who contacted him online is that Karina wanted to discuss already her goal and why she grabs the job that Drayven offers.

“Mr. Ignacio—”

“You can call me Drayven, you don’t need to be formal since we are the same age and we are going to live under the same roof,” he interrupts. “Please come in and take a seat.”

She was shocked. Karina is aware that Drayven is young and she sees him as a single man that has no choice but to look over his brother-in-law for some reason. Her boss never mentions in their previous conversation why he needs to take care of a man like TJ, but she assumes that maybe his wife is an OFW who was forced to work for both of them because of the unexpectedly happened to her husband.

Karina doesn’t want to judge the blind man, but that is the only thought that pops into her mind whenever she wonders why the only person around the house is Drayven, their parents are nothing to be found and it gives her more reason to get curious what happens to the blind man. She wanted to ask what happened to him, but since he was grumpy, Karina didn’t want to get scolded this early morning.

The moment she and her younger brother sit down, that’s the same moment that Karina says, “Drayven, I hope you don’t mind… but do I have a day off? I’m sorry to ask an unnecessary question but if you don’t notice, I am still in my fourth year of college. My goal is to find two jobs this summer break to support my study, and I was looking for a part-time job that could fit my other job when I saw your post looking for a maid. That’s why I am here to try if this job is fine with my current situation,” she explains.

Karina doesn’t want to give a bad impression to Drayven, but she wanted to be honest as soon as she can so they could not waste their time. Especially for Drayven, she knows that he still has a job and only gives some of his time for this appointment. She just wanted to make sure that he doesn’t choose to talk with her and get nothing in progress.

Drayven and TJ sat on the opposite couch that Karina and her brother sitting on. He didn’t realize until now that he was talking to a graduating student since she was the same age as him. Drayven sees her as some random girl who failed to get her diploma that’s why she got forced to get a job like this that doesn’t require a bachelor’s degree.

He holds his chin as if he is thinking. “I think, it's fine even if you are a student or you have another job aside from being a maid. After all, the only thing I wanted you to do is some chores and take good care of Tristan. And it’s a good thing that you’ve mentioned about your situation, maybe I should get another maid that can do—”

“Bro! You don’t have to get two maids, what will she do if she can’t do a single chore? I am not a baby; she doesn’t need to babysit me. I only need someone who can support me anytime I need something; is it that hard to call it a job? I don’t mind if she is a student or whatever she does in her life, but my concern here is you should think wise; in my opinion, one maid is enough. If she can’t do our conditions, then get another one who can.”

Karina wants to roll her eyes but she did her very best to control her emotions. The blind man who Drayven calls Tristan may sound rude, but she knows that he has a point. The only thing she could consider here is to think if she can manage to do chores and take good care of a blind man while doing her job as a part-time waitress in a restaurant.

Drayven sighs and says, “Miss Karina, I’m sorry. If it’s just me, I wanted to help you because I know how hard it is to be a graduating student. But you know…”

Karina clenched her fist. “It's fine, Drayven… you have nothing to apologize for, he was right; paying someone that cannot satisfy the service you need is abusive. But I just wanted to make it clear, Tristan… if I can do both, doing chores and taking good care of you, I can… get hired, right?”

Honestly, being a waitress is hard enough. You are going to take orders, mop floors, wash dishes, and clean windows… it was the same as doing the chores as a maid. So doing it in a day and a night, Karina knows that she may abuse her body as well.

“Of course, because that is our condition,” Tristan answers her with confidence.

Karina used to experience being in a hospital for a week because of over-fatigue. But she continues her job at that time after she got discharged, she just takes a vitamin that can support her immune system so nothing can stop her anymore in doing her study and job at the same time. if she accepts the job offer now, she knows that even if she has a vitamin, it may happen again.

But she doesn’t want to lose the opportunity… Karina knows that it was also hard to find another job that could fit her situation. Aside from that, if she refused this job and decided to find another, she knows that there would be a high possibility that she will end up in another waitress position and it may also cause her fatigue. So, why bother to find a sword that can kill you if you already find one?

Karina smile at Drayven and says, “Okay, then, I’ll take this job… I’ll be your maid from now on.”
