Chapter 61: It Is Time
The shadow man stood hidden in thick darkness. His shadows swirling behind him like a living void. His eyes were locked on the surveillance feed illuminating the wall before him. It was a grainy black-and-white footage of Kai being carried into the forbidden clinic of Dr. Ryne Elkar. His jaw clenched, and a slow, dangerous breath escaped him.“He mustn’t survive this attack,” the shadow man hissed. Without delay, he raised a finger wrapped in darkened steel rings. With a soft hiss, a sigil glowed and it summoned three figures robed in black armor. They were silent, precise and lethal. They were his personal enforcers.“You are to eliminate Kai Drake and Dr. Ryne Elkar,” the shadow man commanded. His voice sounded like a wind through the bone. “Dr. Elkar is not to be underestimated. Behead them both. And there must not be witnesses.” The three bowed low and vanished from his presence ready to do his bidding. Back at the clinic. There was a space hidden beneath layers of sanction, Dr
Chapter 62: A Silent Truth
Blood pooled beneath the lips of the three unconscious assassins, their bodies twisted at different angles and motionless against the cracked stone floor. Kai stood over them, his chest rising and falling as power slowly receded from his limbs. He turned and saw Dr. Elkar still groaning from his wounds.Kai ground his teeth and moved forward. He slipped his arm under the doctor to help him up. “Come on,” he muttered.Dr. Elkar winced. His breathing was labored. His robes were drenched in blood and sweat.Kai placed his palm on the doctor’s chest. A soft light emerged just after he rose on his feet. The system pinged, ‘Healing through palm, activated!’Warmth surged through Dr. Elkar’s veins. The bleeding stopped. The cuts were mended. His bones realigned.Within moments, Dr. Elkar was standing straight again full strength, his face stunned.“You... healed me,” he whispered, astonished.Kai nodded. “You risked your life. You deserve more.” He expressed warmly. “Thank you,” Elkar rep
Chapter 63:The Spirit of the Shadow Man
The facility suddenly darkened, turning everything into an unnatural darkness. The fluorescent lights overhead wavered violently before dimming to a faint brightness, as though the night had fallen prematurely within the sealed chamber.Kai stood upright and looked around, confusion narrowing his eyes. “What’s happening?” He echoed aloud. Dr. Elkar’s eyes widened, and his face paled. “That… that’s the spirit of High Warden Talor,” he said in a hushed voice. “The Shadow Man.” His eyes widened. Just as he finished, the bodies of the unconscious enforcers lying across the floor began to twitch. Their hands rose on their own and clutched at their throats. A black wave of shadow slithered like a serpent from the air and wrapped around their necks.Within seconds, the darkness tightened.Crack! Their necks snapped. Each one of the enforcers slumped to the floor dead. Before anyone could react, a voice thundered through the veil of darkness and it echoed off the walls like the toll of deat
Chapter 64: The Diary of Doom
Back in his dormitory, Kai paced slowly by the window. The sun was still rising, it beautifully glowed through the glass panes. But his mind was far from calm. As his eyes descended quietly, then, the system chimed.“System Task: To clear the name of Dr. Ryne Elkar, Host must retrieve a lost diary located inside the personal quarters of the deceased Mordax Rex.” A soft hum trailed Kai's lips. Just then, a holographic image flickered to life in front of Kai, hovering mid-air. The diary was black, bound in a worn leather cover, with its hard cover cracked and aged. A red wax insignia, shaped like a claw, was stamped on the front.Kai narrowed his eyes and he committed every detail to memory.“Dr. Ryne Elkar’s freedom rests on this,” he muttered.Without wasting a moment, Kai got to his feet, threw on his academy cloak, and slipped out of the room. The corridors were quiet, the usual morning bustle was absent. It was just perfect for what he needed to do.Soon, he arrived outside the
Chapter 65: A Council in Flames
The Grand Council Hall stood tall beneath the cloudy mid-morning sky. Its massive bronze doors slowly creaked open as students, instructors, and council members filed into the chamber. An urgent summons had been issued by Kai and approved by Councilor Locke, and the entire academy responded. At the center of the room stood a raised stone platform flanked by a lectern. That’s where Kai stood with his hands wrapped tightly around a worn and leather-bound diary. Councilor Locke watched him intently from the high seat with curiosity waving behind his calm gaze. High members of the disciplinary committee sat on either side of him. Whispers went through the crowd like leaves in a storm. When the room quieted, Locke rose and addressed the assembly. “Today, we will hear from Kai Draven. He has summoned all of us here.” he declared. “He claims to possess evidence that will either shame the justice and free one of the most dishonored men in Ironspire’s academy history - Dr. Ryne Elkar.” St
Chapter 66: Redemption of the Rogue Medic
The heavy wooden doors of the judgment hall creaked open, and the enforcer in charge of the investigation stepped in. There was a sealed scroll tucked under his arm. His boots echoed across the marble floor as he approached Councilor Locke, who sat at the head of the circular table flanked by the other council members. The morning light filtered through the high stained-glass windows which casted colors across the room, but none of it could soften the tension seated in Locke’s heart. The enforcer bowed respectfully, unrolling the scroll. “Councilor Locke, the final investigation is complete. Everything that Kai reported regarding the conspiracy against Dr. Ryne Elkar checks out. All files, signatures, and dates correspond with the journal recovered from Mordax Rex’s hidden vault. There is no doubt. Dr. Elkar was framed.” He detailed.Councilor Locke’s shoulders sagged as though a weight he had ignored for too long finally made itself known. He closed his eyes for a long moment before
Chapter 67: Top elite student’s return
Far away, in the pitch-black chamber of the shadow man, a circle of flickering red runes glowed on the floor. Around the circle, ten screens came to life. Each screen displaying the face of one of the academy’s top elite students. The shadow man’s voice echoed coldly through the chamber. “Mordax Rex is dead. One of you must rise to avenge him.”The ten elite students remained silent, their expressions serious and unreadable. The shadow man’s hooded figure stepped into view. “This is war now. And I’ve summoned you… to be my generals.”His voice dropped to a chilling whisper.“The time has come.”……………..The early rays of dawn pierced through the fog which covered Ironspire Academy as Councilor Locke strolled along the stone path leading to the training field. His hands were clasped behind his back, his robe billowing slightly in the breeze. At the far end of the field, he spotted Kai standing alone and gazing into the distance with his arms folded.Locke approached him and gave a slig
Chapter 68: Endure the Flames
Without hesitation, they headed to the private chamber of High Warden Talor.Inside, Talor welcomed them with a lavish banquet table already set. There was wine, and meat. Luxuries only the elite could afford.Once they were seated, Talor stood before them. “There is a matter that requires your attention,” he began slowly. “A boy has risen. A mere student called Kai Draven. He didn’t only kill Mordax Rex, but also brought down Councilor Vane. And now, he’s claimed the highest student position in this school. He’s feared and untouchable.”The elites murmured in disbelief.“Who is this boy?” one of them asked coldly.Talor’s eyes darkened. “Kai Draven.”Silence fell among them. Then, one of them leaned forward, cracking his knuckles. “Then it’s time we teach this Kai a lesson. A very painful one.” He intoned. Another smirked. “Let’s make him wish he never picked up a sword.”Talor’s lips curled in satisfaction. “That’s what I wanted to hear.”………..The morning bell rang loud and shar
Chapter 69: Humiliation Level 50%
The bell rang across Ironspire Academy, indicating it was meal time. The smell of roasted grain and spiced vegetables wafted across the grounds. It lured students to the massive meal hall.Kai walked in with steady steps, his uniform clean and his face calm but unreadable. He moved straight to his usual table near the center. It was a corner where Xiren Wren and Darius Vane were already seated. Both friends nodded in greeting, but concern lingered in their eyes.Kai sat quietly, picking up his tray of food and ready to have a bite. But just as he took the first bite… BANG!The tray was slapped out of his hands with a loud crash. The contents scattered all over the cemented floor. Vegetables, sauce, and bread smudged across the ground like a cruel joke. Kai smirked and lifted his eyes. Standing above him were the Top Ten Elite Students. They were all in their black-stitched elite robes. Lawson, the smug brute from yesterday, stood at the front, flanked by Serah, Corven, and others. T
Chapter 70: Bound by Humiliation
“How long will I endure this humiliation?” Kai muttered through clenched teeth, his voice was low and raw. He could still taste the filth from the meal hall floor. The memory burned through his mind like acid. His fists trembled at his sides, and blood crusted at the corners of his lips.He remembered the laughter, the cruel stares and his own knees bruised against stone. Rage simmered beneath the surface, his nostrils simmered.“I’ll make sure to pay them back,” he growled. “Heavier than they ever think.” His hand tightened against his cloth. He walked through the corridor slowly and his body still aching from the beating. The air was tense, every student he passed gave him a wide berth. Some looked at him with pity, others with indifference. No one dared to speak. Then…BAM!A sharp slap cracked against the back of his head.Kai stumbled forward, staggering toward the wall. Before he could gather himself, a strong kick swept his feet off the ground.THUD!His body crashed against th
