“Damn it.” Lucas whispered under his breath as he watched Gregory stare at him from the open bedroom door. He shifted the laptop off his leg and used the sheets to cover it up, like he was brushing the evidence of him being on his laptop away from sight. The act only made Gregory more curious as he took a step further towards Lucas’ bed, his eyes trying to tear Lucas down and find out what exactly he was doing in the darkened room. Lucas licked his lips and frowned, his mind already coming up with something to tell Gregory in the heat of the moment.

“Uh, I was on a video call with my girlfriend.” Lucas told Gregory as he ran his hand through his hair, trying to seem embarrassed at the question. Gregory immediately took the bait and turned away mumbling an apology under his breath.

“Shit sorry. I didn’t mean to barge in like that.” He said as he glanced at the door, seemingly uncomfortable.

“No, it’s fine. I should have known that living in a room with four other men was bound to spel

"Objection, Your Honor! This testimony is rank hearsay and cannot be admitted as evidence in this court. The prosecution is attempting to build a case on baseless rumors and secondhand accounts."The judge's expression turned thoughtful."Sustained. The court agrees with the defense. The testimony regarding Maria Rodriguez's statement is hearsay and lacks direct evidentiary value."Ms. Patel's face remained composed. She didn’t even need to prove it. She just needed the jury to hear that piece of evidence, but she couldn’t let the judge know that."Your Honor, I understand the ruling, but I believe the statement's relevance and probative value outweigh any potential concerns."The judge shook his head."I've made my ruling, prosecutor. Move on to other evidence."Lucas felt a surge of anxiety. Had Patel’s questioning been enough to seal Emilia's fate? Or would the lack of direct evidence allow her to slip through the cracks? She already had Emilia dead to rights, but her son was a dif

  • Chapter 44: The End

The third day of the trial dawned, casting a somber mood over the city and a joyous mood in someone’s room. Lucas rose early, his routine unchanging, and donned his tailored black suit. The weight of the murder case lingered, his mind still grappling with the intricacies of the evidence. He was happy that they had found Tobias and Emilia guilty in the earlier cases but there was still one last lap to go before he could go through with the last thing he had on his mind. Like the first day of the court case, Lucas went straight to the police station to see Axel. As he entered Axel's office, the familiar scent of old books and freshly brewed coffee enveloped him. Axel, already seated behind his desk, looked up, his eyes locked onto Lucas'."Ready for the last lap?" Axel asked, his voice low and even.Lucas nodded, his expression resolute, but he had one question to ask. Despite him finding the body, he wasn’t involved in the investigation of the homicide, so he had no idea what to expec

  • Chapter 43: Guilty Again

Lucas returned home that day with a deep sense of satisfaction, knowing he had played a pivotal role in bringing the notorious Graham family to justice. Despite Nicole not contributing to a thing there, and her not testifying in the last case, it was still a win for him. With the courtroom drama still fresh in his mind, he couldn't shake the feeling that their five-year sentence seemed woefully inadequate, considering the extent of their crimes.Determined to see them held accountable for their remaining wrongdoings, Lucas was resolute in his pursuit of justice. He knew the road ahead would be long and arduous, but he was prepared to testify again and again until the Grahams faced the full weight of their misdeeds. To avoid his former roommates' inquisitive gazes and probing questions, Lucas deliberately arrived home late that evening, seeking solitude and a moment's peace. However, the next morning, he rose before dawn, his mind already focused on the day's events. As he got ready, L

  • Chapter 42: Guilty

Morning light crept through the blinds, casting a pale glow over Lucas' bedroom. He laid still, his eyes fixed on the ceiling as the weight of the day settled upon him. Today was the day. Today was the day for the hearing. The hearing that would determine the fate of the Grahams—and, by extension, his own fate also. With a quiet resolve, Lucas tossed aside the covers and swung his legs over the side of the bed. His movements were deliberate, a conscious effort to shake off the tension that had been building for days. With no one in the same room with him, Lucas walked to the adjourned bathroom, the soft hum of the heater and the gentle hiss of the shower providing a soothing background noise. As he stood under the warm water, he tried to clear his mind, pushing away the what-ifs and maybes. But they lingered, refusing to be washed away. What if the evidence wasn't enough? What if the judge ruled in favor of the Grahams? They were rich. They could still manipulate the hearing to their

  • Chapter 41: The Beginning of the End

Four days had passed since Lucas had found the body in the old room. Four days since the Grahams' arrest, and the news had spread like wildfire. The press was abuzz with speculation: rape, abuse, murder. What the hell were they arrested for? The question lingered on everyone's lips. No one had the full story. No one except for Lucas.Lucas knew he had to be cautious. The Grahams' influence was far-reaching, and he had exposed himself by gathering evidence. He knew they would have sent men searching for him with the sole aim of killing him after all he did. He even avoided his roommates all together, opting to stay in one of the many guest rooms in the mansion.Gregory had returned to his family as promised. Jack, Henry, and Sam were in the staff hall, probably eating or grabbing a drink, and possibly still deliberating on their own stories to ascertain what really happened on that day. That afternoon, as Lucas rested, his phone rang, shattering the silence and waking him up. Lucas gra

  • Chapter 40: Dead Remains and Hidden Secrets

Lucas continued to stare at the grand mansion and while he did, a long-suppressed thought resurfaced, one he had long struggled to keep hidden: his deep-seated hatred for his father. The man who had destroyed his childhood, ridiculed him and his mother and shattered their sense of home. Lucas wondered where that man was now and why, in the course of his undercover investigation, he’d found nothing about his father. He hadn’t even had the opportunity to see the man.But Lucas knew that there was no way Tobias and Emilia would have done all that on their own, and an evil mastermind such as his father had to be behind it or, at the very least, a part of it, and although he wanted to snoop around and find out about him while he worked for Tobias, Lucas was too busy carrying out the major task of ruining them to do it. Plus, he had thought that Mark Graham was a lesser threat to the monsters he was facing at the time, but now that they were being taken care of, he could focus on finding th
