Chapter 71
“Noted," the security man nodded as he moved toward Neal in long swift strides. He stopped before Neal and gestured toward the entryway. “I'm afraid you have to leave now."Neal scoffed. He turned back to the receptionist. "Take back your words, lady,” he said coldly. The receptionist hissed and turned back to look at the security man. “Are you begging him to leave? Drag him out!”The security pushed Neal on the shoulders. “Leave now." Neal stumbled forward, and his anger grew. The man reached out to push Neal again but he stepped aside. He glared at the security. “Try that one more time and you'll find yourself in a hospital bed,” Neal snarled. The security drew back. He raised his brows at Neal. “I was trying to be polite but it's now obvious that you're rude.” With that, the security man swung a fist forward. Neal caught it swiftly. Before the man could think of what to do, Neal tightened his hold on the man's fist and twisted his wrist. The security man cried out, but he was able

"He mustn't leave," the P. A said to the security guard who now looked better as he'd recovered from the sheer pain of Neal's beating. “Call for back up so you can restrain him.”The security man spoke into the speaker that was strapped to his shirt and called for backup.Lora looked at Neal. “Just you wait and see. Your fraudulent activities and corrupt motives end here and now. The police will lock you up and you'll be severely dealt with, you good-for-nothing thief!”The backup that the security man called for arrived. Three other uniformed men. Though they all surrounded Neal, none of them had to touch him as he wasn't even making any effort to flee. He looked unaffected by the threat. The P.A. dialed the Police line, with confidence that they'd pick up and do as she says as a sign of respect towards the company and her boss.Yvonne listened to a podcast as the elevator that was specifically for her took her down to the last floor. She arrived at work earlier than usual that day.

The elevator took them down. They stepped out of the elevator and into the reception area. There, they found that all of the people there had dispersed, each most probably, back to his duty post. The receptionist sat dutifully behind the counter. She watched them as they walked toward her. As she stood up in respect to Yvonne's approach, she still wondered how the hell the man had gotten to know their boss to even have her ID card.Yvonne stopped before the receptionist. She rested her elbow on the counter. “Call Lora and Brad. Tell them to come down now." The receptionist said, "Alright ma," with a smile as she reached for the intercom. As she inputted the code for Lora's office on the intercom, her gaze wandered to Neal who stood beside Yvonne and had said nothing since they returned. She wondered what was happening. The boss didn't look happy nor did the man.The receptionist heard a clicking sound. The sound was immediately followed by, “Hello?”“Hello, Lora, Ms. Yvonne wants t

Outside, Yvonne asked Neal, “Did you come with your car? Or are you okay with us taking my car?" “I don't have a car," Neal simply said.Yvonne flicked her slender wrist in the air. "That's fine then, it will be my pleasure to drive us there in my car." They walked to the car park and Neal was impressed at the clean black Lexus ES that Yvonne stopped beside and unlocked. It screamed all the sophistication that was Yvonne and was minimalist in design. As he climbed in after Yvonne and sank into the comfortable seat, he could immediately tell that Yvonne was a woman who was after comfort and personal taste rather than unnecessary luxury, public validation, and attention. He respected her for that.Yvonne started the car and drove out of the parking lot. When she got onto the main road, she glanced at Neal. “It's just a restaurant around here, so we won't waste much time getting there.”Neal nodded. Yvonne was quiet for a moment, then she glanced in Neal's direction again. “I didn't g
Chapter 75
Through the door, Neal could see Yvonne stop before a black car ahead in the restaurant’s open car park. It was just a little to the left of the main door, so he could easily see Yvonne and an outline of the man's figure. The car that was beside them slightly covered the man's frame. Neal could only see him clearly if he craned his neck. Apart from the fact that he felt the need to see the man's full frame and expressions, he also wanted to be able to hear them. He decided to move closer. He stepped out of the door and slipped between cars until he was hidden, but closer and at an ear’s.Neal saw Yvonne standing before the man who leaned against what he assumed to be the man's car. He had his arms folded across his chest like a man who expected the whole world to fear him and bow to him. There was a dark expression on the man's face as he regarded Yvonne. Neal wondered if he looked so enraged simply because Yvonne was having lunch with him? Yvonne folded her arms across her chest, t

Yvonne's panic skyrocketed at the sight of the thugs. With wide eyes that were filled with fear, she turned to Neal. “You need to leave, now,” she rushed out. "Please, Neal, leave at once." Neal looked from the thugs to Yvonne. “Calm down, Yvonne,” he said calmly, further surprising Yvonne. "I've told you, I can handle him and whoever he calls to help him deal with me. In fact, he can call thousands of these men and I'll take them all down.”Yvonne stared at Neal like he was insane. What does he mean he'd take them on? How the hell will he take on these huge men? What was he? Superman? She glanced around. Perhaps, he has his bodyguards hidden somewhere. She returned her gaze to Neal. There was no one around apart from the thugs and themselves.“After I deal with the fool you cheated on me with,” the man pointed at Yvonne, “I'll remind you that I'm not to be trifled with.”Yvonne placed her palm on her forehead. Why? Why does this have to happen? She had only just wanted to show her g

Miles left afterward. He didn't so much as spare her another glance. It was a kind old lady who covered her up and took her to the restroom where she cried her eyes out. After the lady got herself an oversized jumpsuit, Yvonne called an ambulance for the boy and ordered a ride for herself. The orphan boy almost didn't make it, but he did. She was so scared that Miles might go after the boy if he heard that he was alive that she sent him to another country. That night was the first time she saw a man different from the sweet man she thought she was dating and since then she'd wanted out, but it's just never been possible. Miles had a sweet mouth and then a lethal one, with both, he has kept her tied to him, destroyed her self-esteem, and made her miserable. It was because of Miles that she became a drunkard, spending so many nights getting wasted just to forget the dilemma that was her relationship. It was on one of those not-so-rare nights that Neal had found her. Miles wouldn't

Yvonne was suddenly aware that she had just hugged Neal; acutely aware of how tightly she was holding on to him.“Oh my! I'm so sorry," she piped as she unwrapped her arms from around his neck and stepped back, her cheeks tinged red.She looked down at her feet. She looked back up at Neal, an embarrassed smile on her lips. “I didn't mean to squeeze you so tight. I'm just excited and really grateful. Thank you for everything. Gosh!” She fanned her face. "I brought you here to show my gratitude for the last time you helped me, instead you ended up helping me again! Now, I owe you more.”Neal shook his head, “You don't owe me. Anyone would have stepped in to stop that man from bullying you.”She smiled. “Not anyone would do it, Neal, there’ve been situations when he became over the board angry in public. People watched and they didn't do shit.”Neal didn't want to know what Miles did to Yvonne in all of those times she was referring to. He itched to ask. Instead, he said, “Well, those pe

As Neal walked to where he would get a cab, he brought out his phone and placed a call through to Yvonne. On the first ring, there was no response. He tried her line again. She picked up on the second ring.“Hello?” Yvonne said. It was evident in her tone that she didn't know who was speaking.Neal was so determined to reach her on time that he skipped his mind to introduce himself.“Where are you?” He inquired bluntly. There was a slight pause. Then, her voice called, unsure, Neal?”"Yes, it's me. Are you at your workplace?”“No, I'm at a cinema.”Neal frowned. That was not a place he'd have guessed that she'd be after what happened that afternoon.“Are you there with someone?” He asked.“I'm alone," she answered. "Why are you suddenly asking all these questions?”“I want to see you,” he glanced at the ointment he got at the school clinic.“Okay," the surprise was evident in Yvonne's voice. “I got it for your bruise,” Neal supplied.“That's so sweet of you, Neal,” Neal could hear th

“Is that all?" Amber asked with an arched brow.Cathy blinked. Her mind came back to the room. She opened her mouth and closed it. She was at a loss on how to mouth her pleas again.Amber leaned forward and rested her forearms on the desk. “If that is all, Ms Cathy, you can take your leave.""I-” Cathy stopped. She tried again, "I still want to plead with you. Please, if there's anything you can do, anything at all. It took so much effort and time to get this contract, please, put us into consideration. If we-”“We're done with this discussion, Ms Cathy. Leave now or I'll get the security to escort you out.”Cathy was surprised at Amber's sudden sharp tone. Even though she appeared intimidating, she had sounded gentle up until then.Cathy nodded. She picked up her bag and stood up. “Thank you for seeing me,” she told Amber with a forced smile. Then, with her tail between her legs, she turned around and walked out of the office.Just as she closed the door behind her, she staggered ba
