Chapter 81
Cathy walked out of the company’s building. She made her way to the car park and stopped before her car.She put her phone between her ear and shoulders as she looked for her car keys in her bag. “Now that you say it, mom, I think Moise actually did intentionally make himself unreachable. But not because he authorized the termination. It's because he can't do shit to help us out. He's been lying to me all along.”“What do you mean by that?” Tina asked, confused.Cathy unlocked her car and climbed in. She placed her bag in the front passenger seat. "Just like you thought that Moise was the person from above, I thought the same and mentioned it to Amber. But she snorted and said that Moise didn't qualify to make such decisions.”“My God. Does that mean he doesn't have any power?”Cathy sighed. "That’s my suspicion right now.”"What are we going to do now?" “At this point, mom, there is nothing we can do.” She sighed deeply, “Dad would have to step down. It's the deal we made. In fact,
Chapter 82
At Miles' sudden outburst, Yvonne jerked in Neal's arms. She almost jumped back, but Neal held her back, his hand firmly pressed on the small of her back.Yvonne froze. She reminded herself that Neal was with her to protect her. Then, gradually, she relaxed. After a while, Neal slowly eased his hold on her and Yvonne calmly stepped back. Just as Yvonne pushed away from Neal, Miles' fist came flying toward Neal, merely missing Yvonne by an inch. Yvonne let out a shriek. “What the hell, Miles!” She gaped at him and took a step forward to stop him from hitting Neal but she didn't need to because Neal evaded the hit. Before Miles could register what had happened, Neal threw a punch in his face. With a guttural groan, Miles staggered back and clutched his face. He was able to stop himself from stumbling back further. He spat out thick sticky blood on the floor.Miles shook with anger, then he trembled with pain at the stinging sensation on his face, just a few inches away from his eyes.

Does he have a girlfriend? The errant thought struck Yvonne. She had never considered it since she met Neal.Neal decided to pick up the call just so that Cathy would stop calling. He flashed Yvonne an apologetic smile, “Please, give me a minute let me pick up this call.” “That's okay,” Yvonne smiled.“What do you want?” Neal snapped the moment he answered the call. "I thought you said we shouldn't have anything to do with each other again. So why are you calling me now?”“Is that a way to greet?” Cathy’s calm response came a second later. “Anyway, that's not why I called. We need to meet, Neal. I need to talk to you.”Neal raised his brows. Was she for real right now? The last time she called him for their damned family meeting, it had been disastrous. In fact, things had been worse for her as things didn't go her way. So why does she want to meet again? Did she think that she could just call out of the blue and demand he spare her his time? He answered her with an easy calm. "I d

Miles knew that his father's anger could be destructive. He wouldn't be surprised if his father was waiting outside, within the compound of his mansion, for him, ready to blast insults and slaps in his face the moment he stepped out of the car.Knowing this, Miles parked his car just a few feet away from the massive gate to his father's mansion to give himself time to gather himself. After he'd parked the car, he grabbed the ice pack he'd gotten on the way. He relaxed in his seat and gently pressed the pack to his face again. He winced at the pain that shot through his head. He sighed as the pain subsided slightly. After the pain the idiot his girlfriend was cheating on him with had inflicted on him, the last thing he wanted was to face his father. But he had to. There was no way around it. The easiest way to placate his father was st do as he says.Making sure that his facial expression was no longer contorted in the pain that he felt, he came down from his car and headed up to the

Miles' father said, “As you know, we have debts all over. Right now, we live in debt! All the banks are on my neck, demanding payments. It's only the liaison with Waterfall Corporation that can save our company and dignity as fast as possible.”Miles gaped at his father. His voice trembled. “How am I supposed to meet the president, Dad?” "I don’t care how you'll do it. Just beg the president and get the contract back ASAP!” Miles' brow is furrowed. His head was banging from the pain and the confusion he felt worsened it. He tried to remember if he had offended any president. But he hadn't.“I have offended no one worth offending, Dad. How will I see someone important and offend them? I don’t even know anyone from the company, not to even talk of the president.”Miles’ father totally ignored him. “I give you the rest of the day to figure out how you'll do it, what you'll say, and all. First thing tomorrow morning, you will head to the company, meet with the president, and fix things.
Chapter 86
Much to Yvonne's displeasure, the dinner with Neal came to an end.“Are you sure we shouldn't go back and have more dessert?" Yvonne arched her brows as she and Neal walked out of the restaurant.Neal chuckled. "I'm sure, Yvonne. It was a thorough treat. I feel like I'm filled for five days.”Yvonne giggled. Neal was right. Even when she was full, she had forced herself to eat more just so she could extend her time with Neal.“What we had is enough,” Neal added, “Unless you want us to become bloated so that we'll be unable to make it out of here.”Yvonne shook her head. As much as she wouldn't mind, she knew that they both needed to get back their lives. She had work to go to while he had lectures to attend and probably other engagements too.“I wouldn't want that," she finally said. They stopped beside Yvonne's car. Neal turned to face her. "Thank you for the dinner. I really appreciate it. I enjoyed all the meals and had a fun time chatting with you.”Yvonne smiled. “I'm glad you ha

Neal lifted his shoulders in a slight shrug. Whatever it was that they might have planned or had in mind, he was certain he would handle it. If there was more to the meet up than the help that Cathy claimed she needed, Neal was sure that her desperation would give her off.“We are here,” the driver parked before the bar.“Thank you,” Neal thanked the man. He paid him and got out of the car. When he faced the bar, his brows arched at the low-end bar that Cathy had chosen. The paint on the walls had peeled off. Neal was certain that the wooden door at the entranceway was about to fall off its hinges. He had expected a state-of-the-art bar like she and her family members always favored. She must really crave discretion for the meeting. No wonder she had suggested that they meet up at her family's mansion.Though the lighting in the bar was dim, the moment he stepped into the bar, he saw Cathy at the far end of the room. The seats around the area she chose hadn't been taken yet. It was q
Chapter 88
On hearing Neal's announcement, Cathy came to an abrupt halt, her anger melting. Now could she have allowed her anger to get the best of her? Before she called Neal and while she waited for his arrival, she had known that the probability that Neal would mock her was high. Especially as he'd warned her before. She had acknowledged that, believing she was arming herself. She told herself that it was okay. She'd swallow his mockery and all the insults he might throw at her as long as he was able to help her. So how could she allow his words to get to her?She rose to her feet too. Her eyes alight with fear. “I'm sorry,” she spurted.Neal raised his eyebrows at her apology. He snorted. “I mean it, Neal. Please, don't leave yet.” She swallowed, "You know this is hard for me. It took a lot of thinking before I finally decided to seek your help." Neal faced her, a cold expression on his face. “You called me here, Cathy. I was busy, I had things to do, but I set them aside to meet up with
Chapter 89
Miles lay on the bed in his room, his eyes on the ceiling. He had been in that position for a while. He had never felt so helpless in his life.He dragged his gaze to the wall clock. Though it was still very early, he knew it was only a matter of time before his father would begin to bombard his phone with calls to remind him of what he had to fix - to apologize to someone he had no idea who they were or how they even looked.Heck, he wouldn't be surprised if his father drove down to his apartment and banged on his door to make his point clear. He sighed. He had a minimal amount of sleep, and that was only because he had fallen asleep in front of his laptop while trying to book an appointment with the President. The moment he woke up, his brain began to work nonstop on how to go about the whole situation again. His father had insisted that he offended the President of such a reputable company and he wouldn't listen to him at all. What was the way forward? Definitely, going to his fa

“Cool. What time works for you?” Miles asked even though he knew that he had to get things moving that day so that he would have tangible feedback to give his father at the end of the day.But he'd take whatever he could get. Currently, she appears to be the only connection. His father would have to wait a little bit more.Miles listened to Sasha hum for a while before she hesitatingly said, “How about we have dinner tomorrow?” Neal squeezed his eyes shut. He wanted to yell that it was too late. His father gave him an ultimatum of 24 hours. He wanted to scream at her to make time but he didn't. She was currently the only access he had to get through Waterfall Corporation. He had to remain calm and collected. He forced himself to take a deep breath. “Tomorrow might be too late, Sasha. You see, aside from the fact that I'd like us to catch up, I actually need your help with the company where you work and it's quite urgent,” he told her, deciding that it'd be best if he just came out
