Chapter 1
“Kneel, you—”
Blood trickled from the corner of Neal’s mouth, but he didn’t dare fight back against the man standing in front of him.
Frank sneered and stepped closer, his tone vicious. “Tell me, why is there dirt on my shoes?”
Neal lowered his head. He had polished the shoes until they gleamed, but it was clear Frank had no intention of letting him off the hook. Frank had served in the military and was physically strong. Neal, on the other hand, was just a boy raised in an orphanage, no match for him.
Frank grabbed Neal by the hair and growled, “Answer me! You think playing dumb is gonna get you out of this?”
Neal looked him in the eyes and said, “I spent two hours cleaning your shoes. I didn’t see a single speck of dust on them…”
“Oh? So you’re saying I imagined it?”
Neal felt bitter sorrow inside, but he couldn’t resist. All he could do was bow his head and say, “I’m sorry, Frank. I’ll clean them again.”
“Clean? Don’t be stupid. Crawl over and lick them clean. If you do that, maybe I’ll let you off today.”
Neal’s whole body trembled. Through clenched teeth, he growled, “Frank, that’s enough! No matter what, I’m still your sister’s husband. You should at least call me brother-in-law…”
“Brother-in-law, my ass!”
“If it weren’t for you, my sister would’ve married the man she truly loved! You’re nothing but a useless male nurse, a leech who took advantage of the situation! If it weren’t for my soft-hearted mother, we would’ve kicked you out a long time ago!”
Neal felt a deep sorrow in his heart.
Soft-hearted?
If Neal hadn’t taken on the job of caring for her and looked after her with such dedication, she wouldn’t have recovered completely.
After Cathy regained consciousness, she was emotionally devastated. To help her heal, the Nelson family patriarch arranged a marriage between her and Neal, hoping he would continue to care for her wholeheartedly.
In fact, the old patriarch even paid Neal $3,000 per month as compensation for looking after Cathy.
Who could’ve expected that after the old man passed away, everyone would treat Neal like the lowest servant in the house?
Frank stomped on Neal’s face, his voice cold and threatening:
He stood up and muttered coldly, “By the way, you did a good job cleaning my shoes. But I just felt like hitting you today. As long as you stay in the Nelson house, I’ll beat you every single day!”
Frank laughed maniacally and walked away.
Neal appeared calm, but inside he was in agony.
Should he leave?
It was time for him to repay her.
Neal forced himself to his feet and returned to his “room.”
He lay down and quickly fell asleep.
But in a half-dream, half-awake state, Neal suddenly felt a pair of cold hands caressing his body.
“Cathy? You—”
Just as Neal was about to speak, Cathy threw herself on him and kissed him, silencing his words.
Neal’s eyes widened. His marriage to Cathy had always been in name only. They had never shared a bed. Though he cooked, cleaned, and brewed her coffee every day, he was treated more like a servant than a husband.
But now… what was Cathy doing?
He could clearly tell Cathy was drunk. Her hands were roaming clumsily across his body, and Neal began to lose control too.
Both of them lost all reason.
Neal thought maybe, just maybe, all his years of dedication had finally touched Cathy’s heart.
An hour later, Cathy lay quietly in Neal’s arms. He gazed at her peaceful face and smiled with satisfaction.
Just a few hours ago, he had considered leaving the Nelson family to escape Frank, who was a violent maniac. Neal feared that if he stayed, Frank would eventually beat him to death.
But now… if Cathy truly loved him… he was willing to stay.
Smiling, Neal gently moved to get up and pour Cathy a glass of water.
But the moment he shifted, Cathy mumbled sleepily,
Hearing that name, Neal’s smile froze.
His whole body stiffened as though frozen. He turned to look at Cathy, hoping he had misheard.
“Moise… I… I missed you so much…”
Neal’s face fell. He stood there silently, then gave a bitter, self-mocking laugh.
“Of course… how could a woman like her ever truly love a caretaker like me? I was just a substitute for that man…”
Neal picked up his clothes and quietly walked out of the room.
He collapsed onto the couch in the living room, utterly dejected, and drifted into a fitful sleep.

The Return of the Desired Heir Chapter 9
The family name resounded in Neal's ear as he gaped at the woman. He had no words, had no idea what to do with himself. As he stared, as he tried to regain his senses, only one thought resounded in his head. “Beverly would be saved.” It reverberated over and over again, and his heartbeat slowed in gratitude; he could breathe properly again. Finally, he took charge of his system again. He moved a step closer to the woman and bowed. The woman, who had caught movement in her peripheral vision, turned to see Neal bow so deeply she thought he might fall.“Nothing can express my gratitude to you right now, ma'am. Absolutely nothing. Thank you so much." The woman shook her head vigorously, her expression softening. “No," she repeated as she placed her hands on his shoulder and tried to get him to rise to his full height.Neal looked up to find the woman's eyes glassy. Caught unawares, he stared for a while. He was certain that if she blinked, tears would run down her smooth cheeks. He cle

The Return of the Desired Heir Chapter 8
Everyone was stunned. The security, the nurses. How was that possible? Neal was speechless as he looked from the man who had just made the shocking announcement to the woman.Once again, the question probed him. Who is she?Eyes wide, everyone stared at the man, who was bent forward as he panted. But the woman remained expressionless, almost as if she already saw everything happen. Finally, the director and head nurse found their voices. Before they spoke, they met each other's gaze, confusion evident in their eyes.“What do you mean by that rubbish?” The director exploded, his face red with rage. "How dare you blurt out such lies?" “Lies!" The head nurse piped up, her voice shaky and movements jittery. “This hospital belongs to the Nelson family. How can it go bankrupt like that?”“That's just impossible. The Nelson family owns this hospital. It can never go bankrupt,” the director boasted. The woman sneered, her eyebrows shot up in an elegant arch. “The Nelson family? Who are they

The Return of the Desired Heir Chapter 7
Neal stood there, frozen, his mind blank. He could feel the woman's arms around him, the pressure she held him intensified but there was nothing he could do. Nothing he wanted to do. All he wanted was for Beverly to be taken back into her ward so that her treatments could resume. The last thing he wanted was for a woman he'd never seen to mistake him for her brother. The woman pulled Neal tighter to her, calling out the word ‘oh little brother’ over and over again. Each time, the words left her lips with a relieved, happy sigh.Everyone just watched on, wondering what exactly was happening. Even the security that was about to throw Beverly out paused and watched. After a while, the woman pulled back and placed her hands on Neal's shoulders. Neal met her gaze and saw her eyes shimmer. Her lips quivered as she said, “I was so scared this day would never come.”The woman looked stable and intelligent, but why was she saying all this nonsense? Neal thought. The woman's gaze roved Neal's f

The Return of the Desired Heir Chapter 6
Neal trembled with raw anger. How could Cathy be so cruel? Furiously, he reached for his phone and dialed Cathy's number.“Now you have the guts to call back.” It was that cold voice again. Neal could hear the smirk in her voice. “How dare you ignore my calls?”Neal took a deep shaky breath. At this point, he had to put his anger aside. Giving in to his anger was what had caused this in the first place.“Why, Cathy? Why are you doing this?”“Why would you even ask that? When you dared to hurt Moise, did you think nothing would happen? Of course, you'll face the consequences.”Neal scoffed. He was frustrated. His hold on his phone tightened. “Are you really going to do this? Are you going to risk someone's life over baseless revenge?”He was stunned, where had this woman in Cathy's form originated from?“Baseless revenge! Did you just say that? You almost killed Moise!” She yelled into the phone.“Cathy, she is gravely sick!” Neal was shaking now. He thought that he'd burst into tear

The Return of the Desired Heir Chapter 5
“Come on, let's help him inside,” Tina pulled herself out of her shocked state. With both of them supporting him on either side, they helped him to one of the sofas inside.“Who did this to you, Moise?” Cathy repeated, brows furrowed as she watched Moise writhe in pain on the sofa.“Neal," Moise moaned pathetically. "That man is a devil. A wolf in sheep's clothing. I merely pointed out the truth and he beat me up.”Cathy blinked. Then she frowned. “Neal did this to you? Are you sure? Neal would never do this." Neal has lived with them for years and never raised his hands at her or anyone. Heck, he never even speaks up for himself.Moise pursed his lips to stifle his groan as he painfully turned to look at Cathy's face. “But he did, Cathy.” He sighed. "If I knew I'd have just kept my mouth shut and turned back around,” he murmured. “I’m telling you, Cathy, I only wanted to help him. I pointed out something that could get him in trouble. I was going to take it and save him.” He empha

The Return of the Desired Heir Chapter 4
Cathy was rendered speechless as Neal handed over the paper back to her. It was what she had always wanted, to be reunited with her lost love. But now, she wondered why she doesn't feel so great about it? She should be happy.Just as she forced a smile, Tina stepped out.The moment Tina's gaze settled on Moise, they instantly lit up. “Moise, my darling!” she drawled, all grins. “I hope the journey here was not so strenuous?”Moise glowed, basking in Tina's laudation. "Not at all.”Tina cut her gaze first to her daughter, then to Neal. Her expression hardened and she sneered. “What are you still standing there for? Get out of here and go prepare coffee and tea.”“I will not do that, ma'am Tina,” Neal said, his voice not as respectful as his words.Tina scoffed. She fully turned to Neal. “Have you gone mad? What do you mean you won't do it?” She put her arms akimbo, “What exactly is your usefulness in this house?”Neal shrugged, indifferent. “I guess there's no use now. I already signe
