Chapter 1
“Kneel, you—”
Blood trickled from the corner of Neal’s mouth, but he didn’t dare fight back against the man standing in front of him.
Frank sneered and stepped closer, his tone vicious. “Tell me, why is there dirt on my shoes?”
Neal lowered his head. He had polished the shoes until they gleamed, but it was clear Frank had no intention of letting him off the hook. Frank had served in the military and was physically strong. Neal, on the other hand, was just a boy raised in an orphanage, no match for him.
Frank grabbed Neal by the hair and growled, “Answer me! You think playing dumb is gonna get you out of this?”
Neal looked him in the eyes and said, “I spent two hours cleaning your shoes. I didn’t see a single speck of dust on them…”
“Oh? So you’re saying I imagined it?”
Neal felt bitter sorrow inside, but he couldn’t resist. All he could do was bow his head and say, “I’m sorry, Frank. I’ll clean them again.”
“Clean? Don’t be stupid. Crawl over and lick them clean. If you do that, maybe I’ll let you off today.”
Neal’s whole body trembled. Through clenched teeth, he growled, “Frank, that’s enough! No matter what, I’m still your sister’s husband. You should at least call me brother-in-law…”
“Brother-in-law, my ass!”
“If it weren’t for you, my sister would’ve married the man she truly loved! You’re nothing but a useless male nurse, a leech who took advantage of the situation! If it weren’t for my soft-hearted mother, we would’ve kicked you out a long time ago!”
Neal felt a deep sorrow in his heart.
Soft-hearted?
If Neal hadn’t taken on the job of caring for her and looked after her with such dedication, she wouldn’t have recovered completely.
After Cathy regained consciousness, she was emotionally devastated. To help her heal, the Nelson family patriarch arranged a marriage between her and Neal, hoping he would continue to care for her wholeheartedly.
In fact, the old patriarch even paid Neal $3,000 per month as compensation for looking after Cathy.
Who could’ve expected that after the old man passed away, everyone would treat Neal like the lowest servant in the house?
Frank stomped on Neal’s face, his voice cold and threatening:
He stood up and muttered coldly, “By the way, you did a good job cleaning my shoes. But I just felt like hitting you today. As long as you stay in the Nelson house, I’ll beat you every single day!”
Frank laughed maniacally and walked away.
Neal appeared calm, but inside he was in agony.
Should he leave?
It was time for him to repay her.
Neal forced himself to his feet and returned to his “room.”
He lay down and quickly fell asleep.
But in a half-dream, half-awake state, Neal suddenly felt a pair of cold hands caressing his body.
“Cathy? You—”
Just as Neal was about to speak, Cathy threw herself on him and kissed him, silencing his words.
Neal’s eyes widened. His marriage to Cathy had always been in name only. They had never shared a bed. Though he cooked, cleaned, and brewed her coffee every day, he was treated more like a servant than a husband.
But now… what was Cathy doing?
He could clearly tell Cathy was drunk. Her hands were roaming clumsily across his body, and Neal began to lose control too.
Both of them lost all reason.
Neal thought maybe, just maybe, all his years of dedication had finally touched Cathy’s heart.
An hour later, Cathy lay quietly in Neal’s arms. He gazed at her peaceful face and smiled with satisfaction.
Just a few hours ago, he had considered leaving the Nelson family to escape Frank, who was a violent maniac. Neal feared that if he stayed, Frank would eventually beat him to death.
But now… if Cathy truly loved him… he was willing to stay.
Smiling, Neal gently moved to get up and pour Cathy a glass of water.
But the moment he shifted, Cathy mumbled sleepily,
Hearing that name, Neal’s smile froze.
His whole body stiffened as though frozen. He turned to look at Cathy, hoping he had misheard.
“Moise… I… I missed you so much…”
Neal’s face fell. He stood there silently, then gave a bitter, self-mocking laugh.
“Of course… how could a woman like her ever truly love a caretaker like me? I was just a substitute for that man…”
Neal picked up his clothes and quietly walked out of the room.
He collapsed onto the couch in the living room, utterly dejected, and drifted into a fitful sleep.

Amber smiled. “It's nothing, Neal. You deserve it." Neal took another look at the necklace. “I really appreciate this, Amber," he said sincerely with his focus still on the necklace. Then he looked up at Amber, "But I don't have anyone to give." Amber waved one of her hands in the air. “Doesn’t matter. You don't need to have someone you'll give it to now, you'll have someday. So keep it safe for that day.”Neal smiled, a corner of his lips turning up. "Alright, ma'am." Amber picked up her bag. “Now that that's done, I’ll head for work.”Neal nodded. “Have a nice day.”“Thank you! And you too," Amber called back as she made her way outside.Neal watched Amber close the door behind her. The room grew quiet and he was left with his own thoughts. He stood there in the middle of the living room, the open box lying heavily in his palm. He stared down at it.“She said I should keep it for that day,” Neal muttered to himself. "Will that day ever come?” He wondered aloud.Perhaps, Neal thou

First with delight, then confusion. She wasn't expecting him. He hadn't even called to say he was coming. “Moise,” she called as she walked toward him. “I wasn't expecting to see you. Is everything alright?”Moise smiled. “All is well.” He pulled Cathy into a hug and stepped back.“Then why are you here?” Cathy frowned.Moise faked a sad expression. “Aren't you happy to see me?”Cathy laughed at his lame attempt to look sad. After the classes for the day ended, Neal made his way to the Comix Verts.Once Neal was in his office, Caden scurried in. “Welcome, boss.”Neal nodded. “How's the work going?" Caden nodded exuberantly. "Very well, sir.”Neal reclined in his seat. “I came to inform you of a party coming up in the Emperor's management academy,” Neal began. "They'll have a party at the end of their current session and there'll be an opportunity for businesses to showcase themselves.“Right now, our company is as good as new. We need to reach more people. The earlier we begin to get more contracts, the better for us.”Caden agreed. “You're right, sir.”“The more contracts we execute very well, the more famous we'll become. So we're going to use the event to enter more markets. I need to emphasize that it's going to be a huge party. The only attendees wouldn't be the school population. Other people will come from all around.“This means that lots of reputable businesses will be there to showcase what the

The next morning, Neal walked to the bus stop where he waited for the bus.A few minutes after he got there, the bus eventually arrived. The door opened and he was about to climb in when a lady rushed out, almost colliding into him.She muttered an apology that Neal barely heard and rushed ahead. Neal looked at her retreating back with a frown.“Isn't that Elsa?” He muttered to himself. Even though she was in a rush, that coolness she had about her was still there. Why was she in such a hurry though? He wondered as he looked down at the watch on his wrist. There was still enough time before the day's lectures began.“Young man, are you coming in or not?" The bus driver hollered out.Neal shrugged and entered the bus. “This party is going to be the biggest the school has ever thrown,” Neal heard as he walked through the hallways. Every day he walked through those hallways or into a lecture hall filled with waiting students, there must always be something for them to gossip about.“I

“We're here, ma'am," the driver of Craig Holdings said as he parked before the Comix Verts building.Yvonne looked up from her phone. She looked from the building outside the car to Lora who nodded. “This is the location,” Lora said.“Alright, let's go in,” Yvonne said. She stepped out of the car and Lora followed. The driver pulled away to go find a parking space, while Yvonne and Lora walked toward the building.Once they were inside, Yvonne made a beeline for the receptionist behind the counter. “Good day, ma’am,” The receptionist smiled. “Welcome to Comix Verts, how may I help you?” Yvonne returned her smile, pleased at the warm customer service.“I want to see the manager. I have an appointment,” Yvonne said. The receptionist turned her attention to the desktop before her. The Return of the Desired Heir Chapter 123
Frank sighed. “I've promised you that I'll never gamble again. I meant my words,” he said earnestly. "And I intend to keep them. This will be the last time I'll ask you for money. I need it to clear the debts I have, then I can finally wipe my hands clean.”“Wipe your hands clean?" Cathy scoffed. Her anger rose to the top, boiling over. “This is exactly what you did,” Cathy snarled without thinking. “Promises upon promises. This is how you ruined the hospital and made us lose it!”Frank’s brows furrowed. “What happened?”“What do you think? The hospital is no longer ours! You freaking made it bankrupt and we lost it!”Frank's mouth was ajar for a while. “Heck, how did we lose it?" He muttered to himself as he ran his palm over his hair. Was it really his fault? He wondered. But then, their mother had also taken money from them. So it wasn't entirely his fault. Besides, he knew that Cathy would get it back. She was trained in those sorts of things. It was why she was the one managing
