Chapter 21
"You're delusional," Sierra hissed. "You actually believe that he cares about you? He's just using you, Aria. He'll dump you as soon as he finds someone better and richer.""That's not true," Aria insisted, her voice trembling slightly."Isn't it?" Harper challenged. "Think about it, Aria. What does he have to offer you? He is not rich, he is not famous, he not even that good looking. Why would you choose him over all the other guys who are throwing themselves at you?"Aria hesitated, her confidence wavering. Damon, sensing her vulnerability, stepped closer, wrapping his arm around her shoulders."Because she love me," Damon said, his voice clear and unwavering. "Because she's the most amazing person I've ever met. And plus she makes me a better man."Sierra and Harper stared at Damon, their faces a mixture of shock and disbelief. They had never seen Aria the queen of the school be so vulnerable, so sincere."You're lying," Sierra said, her voice barely a whisper as she faced Aria. "Y

Damon and Aria tried their best at the University Gala, but it was still a breeding ground for fraternal battles and social manipulation. And as they walked in and out of the club, Damon noticed Xavier and his dying clique meeting up in a circle with their faces staring at him. There would be another round of the demeaning, he could tell.“They’re going to do something, ” Damon whispered in Aria’s ears barely audible over the sound of the music.'Hold them. ' Aria said, still confidently, 'won't be going to let them ruin the night. But that's exactly what the inevitable did. As Damon and Aria seemed to come to a stop near the champagne fountain, Xavier came over with a forced smile on his face.“Damon Aria, ” he said in a voice full of false friendliness, “Doing well at the party? I hope everything is... to your... liking? ““It is, ” Damon replied, neutrally. “Thank you for asking. ”"Of course, " Xavier said, his eyes flicking to Aria. "But I have to say, I am surprised, Aria, to se

He projected a series of screenshots onto a nearby screen, showing Mason exchanging messages with other students, asking them for answers to exam questions.A gasp swept through the crowd as people recognized the evidence of Mason's academic dishonesty. Mason hung his head in shame, his reputation in tatters.Damon turned to Harper, his expression hardening. "Harper," he said, his voice cold and accusatory. "Isn't it true that your 'charity work' is mostly self-promotion? That you're using your foundation to raise your own profile, rather than to help those in need?"Harper's face paled. "That's ridiculous!" she protested. "I'm doing everything I can to make a difference in the world.""Are you?" Damon replied, pulling out his phone again. "Then how do you explain this?"He projected another series of screenshots onto the screen, showing Harper using her foundation's funds to pay for lavish vacations and expensive designer clothes.Another gasp swept through the crowd as people realiz

The reaction of Damon's public rant was brutal, swift and heinous. Xavier, Mason, Sierra, Harper, Liam were all ostracized, their social standing quickly under siege. You could hear every single 'Wait out here' as they went around the street. You could hear the pointed stares as they entered the room. It was, like, a social death sentence.Mason, aching to save his academic career, stalked Professor Davies after class.“Professor, ” he cried, his voice faintly tumultuous, “those screenshots, well, they were taken off the cuff and I swear I was not cheating. I was just... helping a friend. ”Professor Davies - a cowardly woman with a reputation for integrity - gave him a forbidding look.“Mr. Thompson, ” she said, her voice cold and sarcastic. “The evidence would hardly lie. I’m afraid I have no choice but to report this matter to the academic integrity committee, and your future at this university is in serious danger. ”On this occasion Mason's stomach threw back in dismay and hopele

The "Olive Branch," a trendy, sun-drenched restaurant just off campus, boasted a discreet private dining room. Aria smoothed down her dress, a silk number she’d picked up at a boutique last month, and took a deep breath before entering. Inside, Beatrice, Chloe, and Daphne were already seated around a polished wooden table, a trio of forced smiles aimed her way."Aria! So glad you could make it," Beatrice chirped, her tone a little too bright. "We were starting to think you’d forgotten about your old friends." Beatrice and the girls planned to act nonchalant, as if there had not betrayed Aria at the party and hoping that she would be too embarrassed to try and confront them."Of course not," Aria replied sarcastically, pulling out a chair. "Things have just been… hectic." Aria knew the girls wanted to act like there did not betray her at the bar. She had plan to brush it off and if there asked for forgiveness, she had also plan on forgiving them. But, until then she will play along wi

It all seemed rushed and abrupt after he made his way to the private dining room. The air was still shorn of tension, but a little at the moment as he walked in, he offered a polite smile and flashed his eyes over the faces of Beatrice, Chloe, and Daphne, settling then finally on Aria, whose eyes were beginning to open slightly with concern." Ladies " he said, his voice dull and collected, "I hope I'm not interrupting anything importantBeatrice, ever the contagious girl, tried to give herself up a little. “Damon! What a surprise. We were just hanging out with Aria.“Well, I can see that clearly, ” Damon said, his voice at least concealing that he packed much more than just that. He pulled out a chair and sat beside Aria and gave her a little squeeze. “I couldn’t help but notice some... passionate conversation as I was passing by, ” he recalled.Chloe tried to keep her seat on the far side. "We were just telling her about... our concerns," she began. "it nothing really…”Concerns? "

With a new wave of sound assailingThe Olive Branch in the wake of Damon's story was already rife with hysteria, but there was a new wave of noise behind the front door. Crowds looked on silently, everyone was paying attention to it. Ernie and his regulars just walked into the club in something different from their usual swaggering glory. They were in matching bright pink aprons with huge glittery letters over them saying "ARIA'S PETS".The restaurant manager, a nervous-looking man in a slick suit, said hurriedly, and turned them over — clearly giving them directions. Ernie, in the face of barely tolerated anger, tried pulling the apron back, but it didn’t work. His friends didn’t fare much better, just pushing their way to some sort of dignity.Damon sat back in a quiet pose next to Aria at their table, raising an eyebrow with a faint whiff of fun in his eyes, “Ah, Ernie, ” he said with a voice fast enough to be heard by the majority of the restaurant. “On time. I hope you remember th

The Olive Branch was electric. It was a burst of giddiness mixed with anticipation and still-shock. Ernie and his bunch were gone, Beatrice, Chloe and Daphne had stood up and moved to a corner In shame, the whole thing turned to Damon and, as he stood, there was a silence with which he radiated, awaiting his next move."Okay, well - Damon said in a decidedly cool, husky tones, "that... was - was - interesting, to be sure, sorry I made the mess, but I feel like I had to address certain... misconceptions.”But then he stopped, turned and looked over his fellow students. “But I didn’t join you all here to see a social collapse; I have a rather different announcement to make, one I think will be of benefit to the whole university community. ”A rumble of curiousity sounded through the room. People leaned forward to hear what Damon had to say."As some of you may know, " Damon continued, "I have been working on a couple of projects outside my studies. One of those projects has just culmina

The Olive Branch had managed to return to something of normalcy, though the sound of it reminded us of nigh-on Wednesday afternoon's tragedy. The rush to get Damon's opportunity cards out and the rest of the party sitting at the table was finally falling into their own meal. But now with a new awareness that everything was going on.With Beatrice, Chloe and Daphne out of the way, a new type of energy started to fill the air around Aria and Damon’s table. Many students that they’d never met, or even friends of theirs, saw them walk up to the table in a mute expression that seemed both admiration and apology."Aria, " said a young girl called Sarah in a sincere tone of voice, "I just just wanted to say that I'm so sorry for ever thinking I didn't like you. I'd heard those rumours and I... I should have known better. You're amazing. You deserve everything.“Thank you Sarah, ” Aria replied pleasantly, her voice warm. “I appreciate that. ”Another student spoke up, a young boy named Kevin.
Chapter 30
Brenda Harrow’s office door clicked shut. Heavy velvet curtains blocked out the campus afternoon sun. Around the polished mahogany table, five teachers perched on the edge of their seats, all eyes fixed on the principal as she poured herself a cup of tea, her lips tugged into a tight, disapproving line. The teachers where approached by Xavier and Ernie’s parents, after there were both humiliated by Damon. The parent gave instructions for Mrs. Brenda Harrow to get rid of Damon.“Thank you for coming,” Brenda began, her voice icy. “You all know why we’re here.”Mr. Langley, the strict Latin teacher, scoffed. “Because of Damon Newton.”Ms. Patel, Chemistry, folded her arms. “He’s everywhere: the club rosters, the debate team, even that ridiculous ‘student business’ he runs. The other students are starting to idolize him.”Brenda set her teacup down with a thunk. “That’s precisely the problem. He’s become a… symbol. And not for the values we stand for at Woodhurst Academy.”Mrs. Ellis, Hi
