Chapter 1 – Rented Walls
At seven o'clock, Oscar was awakened, by the sound of a violent knock on the door. "Better wake up, scumbag!" Came the voice of his landlord from outside, his tone dripping with disdain, and his palms slapping against the metal door.Oscar sighed, almost crumbling under the weight of frustration. He got out of bed, picked up his glasses from the side table drawer, and took a quick glance at the partially broken mirror in front of him. "I just want to get out of this," he muttered, only to get interrupted by the voice of his landlord once more, yelling... "You'd better come out here now, or I am going to pull this door down and come in there to drag you out myself. Don't you even dare think that I joke with my money." Oscar stole a glance at the door, eyes cold. He lives in a one-room apartment, with a corner reserved for the bed and another for the television, accompanied by a small couch in front of it. There is also a kitchen and bathroom, neither of which is fancy, just a s
Chapter 2 - Wedding Anniversary
After the most embarrassing day at work yet, Oscar boarded the bus. He wasn't headed home this time; rather, he was headed for a place he didn't wish to be, his in-laws' house. Oscar would never forget the ill treatment, which had contributed to his renting an apartment despite his financial struggles. Seated in the back of the bus, his mind drifted off to how often his mother-in-law would slap him across the face for the slightest of mistakes. His father-in-law was rarely present because of his job as CEO, but each time he was, his gaze on Oscar was nothing short of disdain and disappointment. He often scoffs at Oscar, calling him a loser and unworthy to have been married into their family.Amongst these, what Oscar counted most as hatred was watching his father-in-law give a ten-million-dollar contract to a hired stranger despite knowing that he could do the job. He realised that it wasn't just poverty anymore, they hated him and would want him to remain that way so that they would
Chapter 3 - The Flash drive
"Sir, I do not understand," Oscar stuttered, shifting his gaze to meet his wife who sat at a distance. As soon as their eyes met, she sprang to her feet in a rage and walked towards him. "Pam, what is... Before Oscar could speak, she silenced him with a thunderous slap across the face, one so powerful that it took everyone by surprise, family and guests alike.Astonished, Oscar muttered "You slapped me,"His voice was barely above a whisper, and his hand was fixed on his reddened cheek.Pam did not flinch. She had warned him never to set foot in her parents' home again, or this might happen. She said she never wanted to see his face again, or she might disfigure it. Yet he showed up."I will do it again and again until you leave this place!" She yelled, "You brought your lowly self here, not to wish my parents a happy anniversary, nothing else but to beg... You have come here to embarrass me. Oscar, I already told you that I am done being with a man like you. Please leave!" "Pam
Chapter 4 - The Lady In The Heels
The superstore isn't one of the best places to be employed. The payment was good, but the treatment was absurd. Workers are turned against each other in the most brutal way possible, and almost every employee hates the others and wouldn't hide their excitement when a colleague is fired. It is a toxic work environment to say the least. And for Oscar, it is nothing but hell.Their pathetic little giggle whenever he walked by, their murmurs and whispers of mockery never seemed to escape Oscar's ears. This is because it's all they ever wanted to do, to humiliate him and make him feel very little of himself, especially having been demoted from a salesman to a janitor. "How can someone be this shameless? If I were him, I'd never show my face in this establishment ever again," they said, and they couldn't be far from the truth, but Oscar needed money, even if for nothing else but the overbearing landlord needed to be settled. All they saw was a man whom has been demoted; none of them knew a
Chapter 5 - 100 Billion Dollars In My Rented Apartment
At half past five, Oscar walked into his apartment feeling drained, both physically and emotionally. He was overworked by the deliberate attempt from his ex-colleagues to frustrate him, and whatever they were doing, it worked. As soon as he walked into the house, he could think of nothing other than the flash drive that he had kept away. Now he was more determined than ever to learn more about it and to acquire whatever it had to offer. But just before he could settle down, an unexpected knock came on the door. He wasn't expecting any visitors today, so he could only imagine what kind of trouble he's gotten himself into this time. And it couldn't be the landlord, that old man would never show up in the evening. He unlocked the door, and before him stood a figure dressed in a black leather jacket, dark shades and big boots. It was an odd wardrobe choice especially for the season."Can I help you?" Oscar inquired, his brows raised with curiosity. "Are you Oscar?" The man asked, his vo

Chapter 7 - Rented games
Oscar's conversation with Kevin Wayne stretched for hours, he had a lot of questions to ask, and Kevin did quite a good job reminding him that there's more time to have more discussions in the future. He explained the most important part of running the company to Oscar and assured him that there are hundreds of staff at his beck and call, so he didn't have to lift a finger. However, for the time being, he can communicate with them through Kevin alone just to keep him out of the public eye. Kevin added that Oscar must have a representative at meetings, sign certain documents and determine which organisation gets their support. Oscar did not leave without asking about the mysterious lady who had given the flash drive to him, and why he was picked instead of someone related to the CEO or someone influential. To this, Kevin assured him that he'd get a response in due course, he promised that the same lady who had given him the flash drive would be back to
