Chapter 1
It was quite late at night when Andrew Pierre arrived at the airport and he was struggling to find a cab that would take him home because of rush hour. He had spent the past six months away from his wife and daughter on a special mission. Though he was supposed to arrive a few days later, he finished his tasks at the barracks earlier than expected and took the next flight home to celebrate his wedding anniversary with his wife.A cab dropped him off at the house and he walked in with a huge smile on his face as he was so happy to see his wife and daughter after six months of no contact. “Mr Pierre!” The nanny who opened the front door yelled in surprise. “What are you doing here?”He had not told anyone about his return home because he wanted his return to surprise them.“Where are my girls?” He asked, referring to his wife and daughter.“Ms Pierre is not home yet but little Anna is in her room, watching some kids show on her iPad.”Andrew dropped his bag by the door and went upst
Chapter 2
It was obvious that she had forgotten about the wedding anniversary and she didn’t care about it even after he had mentioned it to her.Andrew was not expecting that she would pick up the phone with excitement in her voice but for some reason a part of him still hoped that she would bring it up.He informed Gina, his daughter’s nanny, about their plan for the day and returned to his room to prepare for the breakfast date.In no time Andrew was done dressing up, he made his way to his daughter’s room when he heard her conversation with Gina.“Young miss, you look gloomy, is something on your mind?” Gina asked with concern in her voice. “Is this dress not to your liking? This is one of the gowns you picked out to be your favorite when we went shopping.”“It is not my dress. I was looking forward to going to the amusement park with mommy and her friend today but dad suddenly came back and ruined our plans.”“Mommy’s friend promised to get me a lot of goodies and more shoes. That will n
Chapter 3
The cab stopped in front of a grand restaurant and Anna’s face lit up as soon as she saw it. “This is Uncle Jacob’s restaurant. He’s mom’s friend; the one who bought me my shoes. We hang out here all the time,”Andrew’s chest tightened at the sight of his daughter being excited to come to a restaurant owned by a man he didn't know. She barely acknowledged him when he came home after being away for six months. The thought of another man taking his place in his daughter’s life made his blood boil. The cab drove off after he paid the driver generously. The fare had cost him more than he could really afford. Andrew was just a junior agent. He earned barely enough to cover basic needs, yet he had spent most of his salary buying gifts for his wife and daughter. He wasn't complaining; he would do anything to make the two of them happy. He took his daughter's hand and walked inside. The interior looked so extravagant , it was clearly a Michelin 5-star place. Andrew knew he could not afford
Chapter 4
A month later, Andrew returned home from duty.He had been assigned to the front lines missions that the veteran agents had failed to solve in the past five years. Someone who had noticed his extraordinary skills at the agency recommended him to the higher ups.Instead of taking the break he had planned to spend with Bella and Anna, he was assigned another official duty.Within four weeks of the assignment, Andrew found the secret safe stolen by the famous art thieves, Julie and Thomas. He also apprehended them alive and brought them to the agency. His superiors were so pleased with him that he was immediately promoted to a Special Agent, skipping about five ranks. Normally, it would take up to thirty years to reach the level of a special agent unless you were really skilled. The position of the special agent came with a card that provided unlimited funding for his missions, gear, and even personal use. It also came with access to advanced gadgets, stealth vehicles and constant eli
Chapter 5
“You didn’t sign the papers the last time. Come and sign them this morning.” That was the text Andrew received from Bella after four days of silence and ignoring his calls. It was also Anna’s birthday, he took that as the universe giving him another opportunity to resolve things with his family. He wasn't certain that his wife had slept with the Jacob his daughter was talking about, but he was willing to fix things regardless. He could not imagine living without them.Bella’s text was like a subtle way of asking him to spend the day with them because she felt bad about the last time.He dressed up and went into the nearest children's store, he bought items for his daughter and asked them to wrap it up in a gift bag.Since he was yet to retrieve any of the cars this company had given to him, he took a cab to the house. When he arrived he heard loud music with little children’s screams coming from the house. He doubted he was at the right place. It was his daughter’s birthday, his

Andrew grew up in a wealthy and prestigious home, but shortly after a major investment his parents made went wrong during his final year in college, they lost everything they had.At that time, his girlfriend of three months, Bella, was already pregnant with their child. Her family demanded that they get married before the news of his family company’s bankruptcy became public. He withdrew his savings to purchase a large home in a rich neighborhood so that his wife and his child would never have to grow up in the suburbs as he never had to do.Hoping Bella would take the news well and stay hopeful through the hard times, Andrew told her about his family’s situation. From that day, she began to grow distant.Andrew wasn’t himself either. He had to join his parents’ company almost immediately, but there wasn’t much he could do. The failed investment had damaged their fintech firm so badly that no one was willing to invest or lend them money. Their staff quit quickly, accepting offers f

Chapter 8
Andrew called his mom’s number right away. She picked up on the first ring.“Andrew,” she said quietly into the phone.Hearing her voice for the first time in a long time made him feel a burst of emotions in his heart. She still sounded the same, warm, light and comforting. It restored a bit of his spirit and reminded him he wasn't alone in the world“Mom, how have you been? How is dad?”“We are alright soon, our bank manager will contact you about the money I mentioned to you and how it will get to your account.”“How are your wife and your kid?”Andrew paused, he didn’t know where to tell his mom the truth or not, about Bella.“Andrew, is something wrong?” his mother asked.Roxanne knew her son well, his silence meant there was something he wasn't telling her. There was no use hiding all of that from his mom and he would not want her to get involved with Bella to avoid embarrassment like the one he had faced at Anna’s birthday party.“Bella and I got a divorce yesterday. She's got f
Chapter 9
Olivia needed some time alone so she asked her parents to go home with the chauffeur and she left for the bar.She could not remember the last time she took time off to spend time alone. Her routine was pretty much the same, worked 9 to 6pm everyday, went home to spend time for her son, then went to bed.“I’d better have the time of my life now. Who knows if the jerk I am about to marry will let me taste alcohol,” she thought to herself. When she got in, she asked the bartender to give her the strongest drink they had.Olivia reminisced about her days before she got married. She had spent all her time partying with her friends and enjoying her life till her ex-husband walked into her life. She had thought he was the best option for her, he made her cut off her friends in a harsh way, saying they were bad influences that didn’t want them together. Her girlfriends tried to warn her about him, they said he was seeing other girls. Her love for him had blinded her so much that she believe

She was stunned by the slap and took two steps backward as her aunty’s hand still hung in the air.“Where the hell are you coming from, you whore?” Blossom barked at her.Olivia rubbed her cheek lightly and searched for her mother’s face. Her mom was standing right behind her aunt. She looked so sorry for her.May knew better than to intervene in this matter. Blossom was her sister-in-law so she had no right to challenge, even if she did, she understood that her cunning sister-in-law would cook up more lies against her and Olivia. So it was wise to just remain silent.“I..” before Olivia could defend herself, her aunty pulled the coat she was wearing right off her body at once. “Just as I thought, you little whore. Did your mother ask you to and hook up with some other men so you could ruin today for my dad?” she spat.May grabbed the coat from the floor and covered her daughter up, feeling helpless. With a look of shock on her face, Olivia asked, “Aunt Blossom where is this accu
