It was quite late at night when Andrew Pierre arrived at the airport and he was struggling to find a cab that would take him home because of rush hour.
He had spent the past six months away from his wife and daughter on a special mission.
Though he was supposed to arrive a few days later, he finished his tasks at the barracks earlier than expected and took the next flight home to celebrate his wedding anniversary with his wife.
A cab dropped him off at the house and he walked in with a huge smile on his face as he was so happy to see his wife and daughter after six months of no contact.
“Mr Pierre!” The nanny who opened the front door yelled in surprise. “What are you doing here?”
He had not told anyone about his return home because he wanted his return to surprise them.
“Where are my girls?” He asked, referring to his wife and daughter.
“Ms Pierre is not home yet but little Anna is in her room, watching some kids show on her iPad.”
Andrew dropped his bag by the door and went upstairs.
He found Anna sitting in her bed, with her iPad in her hand.
She was so engrossed with what she was watching that she didn’t even notice that he had walked in.
“Anna.” He called and she looked up.
“Dad.” She said with lack of enthusiasm in her voice and her attention was back on what she was watching.
Andrew moved closer to her but she threw a light push at him with her leg. “Dad, I need to finish this show before I go to sleep.”
He was a bit hurt by her reaction, she had not seen him for six months and she was not even eager to speak to him.
But she was his daughter, he didn’t get mad over her for that reason afterall she might be acting that way because she was pissed at him for staying away for so long so he attempted another approach to make a conversation.
His eyes caught a pair of shoes by her nightstand, “These shoes are lovely.”
Anna got up swiftly from her bed and smacked his hand off, “don’t touch those. Mom’s friend got them for me. They look just like the ones he got for mom too.”
“Who is this mom’s friend?” He questioned gently, rubbing his other hand on the arm she had smacked harshly.
Andrew was hurt by his daughter’s aggressive behavior; she had hit him over a pair of shoes that someone had gotten her.
He was so curious as to why she was so attached to the shoe and very concerned about the identity of the friend of her mommy that brought the shoes.
“Hmm?” She returned to bed and grabbed her iPad.
“Dad, look I have to finish this show, it’s almost time for me to sleep. Nanny would be here soon and I would have to turn off my ipad.” She dismissed him at once.
“I will leave you to enjoy yourself then.” He got up and made his way out. Before he left her room, he took a glance but she didn’t even seem to be affected by his presence.
Just as he walked, the nanny was on her way in, “Mr Pierre, I just spoke to your wife. She said she’s quite busy at work and you shouldn’t wait for her.”
It was not new to him that his wife was burying herself in work, one thing he always admired about her was how hardworking she was, despite her humble background.
She had worked so hard to build her name and attain an executive position at her place of work while her own business flourished on the side.
Andrew dialed his wife, Bella’s number, it rang for a while and she didn’t pick up.
That made him worried, and he wanted to check up on her.
Maybe get her some food if she was working late again.
He called her once again. She picked up on the last ring.
“Did Gina not send my word? I’m busy and I won’t be home early.” She sounded distant and cold.
Just as he was about to respond to her when a thick masculine voice came on, “who is calling you this late at night?”
Bile rose in Andrew’s throat at once. Was that the man that got his girls the shoes?
“It’s a spam call.” He heard his wife tell the man at the other end of the call.
Then the line went off. She had hung up on him.
Since Andrew had gone to the county island for his special mission, he hadn’t gotten the chance to speak to his wife.
He had sent letters home since the use of phones was almost impossible due to the poor signals in the training barracks but he didn't get a reply from her.
Their marriage had always been cold and distant, Andrew was already used to getting cut off by Bella, but this call didn’t sit well with him.
He wanted to call her back and ask about the voice he heard over the phone, at the same time he didn’t want to confirm his fears.
He went back downstairs to pick up his bag and retired to his room.
The next morning, Andrew’s mind had cleared up and he made a call.
“Hello, Bella-” he started but she cut him off
“Get straight to the point.” She barked at him
“Happy wedding anniversary my love. I was thinking about having breakfast together with Anna this morning. What do you think?” Andrew asked in a sweet tone.
When he left the County island, it was the day of the anniversary but due to the time difference, it was just the d-day back at home.
Having a cozy breakfast date with his wife and daughter would be the best way to make the whole day perfect for him.
“Send the address to me.” Her stoic, mean voice said then she hung up.

Jacob was halfway through buttoning his shirt when his phone rang.He glanced at the screen, frowned, and answered. “Yes?”Bella watched from the edge of the bed as his posture straightened, his tone shifting into something polished and professional, the voice he never used with her anymore.“Europe?” he repeated. “Two days?”He listened, jaw tightening, then nodded even though the caller couldn’t see him. “Understood. I’ll be there.”When he ended the call, he exhaled sharply and ran a hand through his hair.“What is it?” Bella asked.“HR,” he said, already turning toward the wardrobe. “The new global boss is coming for inspection. He wants to see all the company’s heads. I need to be in Europe in two days.”Her stomach dropped. Europe. Distance. Space. Opportunity.“When were you planning to tell me?” she asked quietly.“I just did.”He pulled out a suit, laid it flat on the bed with mechanical precision. Everything about him suddenly moved faster, sharper as if she’d already become
Chapter 105
Olivia and May had argued, researched, prayed, and worried themselves thin before finally reaching a decision. Every school prospect came with glossy brochures and rehearsed assurances, but none could erase the memory of Ethan’s kidnapping, the panic, the helplessness, the scars that never quite faded. What they needed was not just excellence or prestige. They needed safety without compromise. That was how Unicorn Day and Boarding School entered their lives. The first thing Olivia noticed when they drove through the iron gates was the silence not the dead kind, but a controlled calm. The gates were tall, matte black, and reinforced with discreet steel panels that looked ornamental until you looked closer. Security cameras were embedded so seamlessly into the wrought designs that they appeared decorative. A uniformed guard greeted them by name, having checked their arrival time moments earlier, and the gates slid shut behind them with a low, final hum.Unicorn Day and Boarding Sch
Chapter 104
Becca stood at the edge of the corridor long after Olivia and Andrew disappeared behind the carved oak doors. She hadn’t followed them not because she couldn’t, but because she refused to look desperate. Still, the image burned into her mind. Andrew hadn’t bowed. He hadn’t explained himself. He hadn’t even looked rattled when Blossom accused him of theft. Instead, he stood there calm, composed, snapping his fingers like a man who owned the room. Becca clenched her fingers around the stem of her wine glass until her knuckles whitened. “This wasn’t how it was supposed to go,” she muttered. The dinner had been her moment. Blossom had promised it would be. The accusations, the whispers, the careful poisoning of doubt Andrew was supposed to crack. Olivia was supposed to look foolish for defending a man with no standing. Instead, Olivia looked… protected. That was unforgivable. “Becca.” She turned sharply. Lake Chad stood a few feet away, his expression uneasy, his brows dr
Chapter 103
Andrew stepped out of Lord George’s study and closed the door behind him softly. The hallway was quieter now. Most of the guests had retreated to smaller rooms, whispering, speculating, pretending not to listen while doing exactly that.He had taken only three steps when he sensed her.Olivia stood a few feet away from the door, arms crossed, posture stiff. She wasn’t trying to hide. She was waiting. Her eyes met his, dark and searching, irritation barely contained beneath a thin layer of restraint.“Come with me,” she said flatly.Andrew opened his mouth, but she had already turned on her heel.He followed. She didn’t slow down, not once, leading him through familiar corridors of the Beecroft manor until they reached the far wing. Olivia pushed open a door and stepped inside, then turned sharply and grabbed his wrist, dragging him in after her before shutting the door with a decisive click.Only then did she let go.“Sit,” she said, pointing at the armchair near the window.Andrew
Chapter 102
Lord George closed the door to his study and did not bother locking it. He never did. Anyone foolish enough to eavesdrop usually regretted it.Andrew stood where he always did near the desk, posture relaxed but respectful, hands loosely clasped behind him. Lord George moved to the liquor cabinet and poured himself a drink. He did not offer Andrew one.“How did the mission go?” he asked, without turning around.“Well,” Andrew replied. “Clean.”“That’s all you ever say.”“Because that’s all you need to hear.” he chuckledLord George smiled faintly and carried his glass to the desk. “And your welfare?” he asked, settling into his chair. “You look thinner.”Andrew exhaled once. “Occupational hazard.”“Hm.” Lord George studied him over the rim of his glass. “You’re not on active rotation anymore.”“No.”The word was firm. Decided.Lord George leaned back. “I’ll be taking a break from the SSA.”“A break,” Lord George echoed. “That’s new.”“Temporary,” Andrew said. “My parents’ company nee
Chapter 101
The silence Andrew’s gifts created did not last.Blossom recovered first. She laughed, short and brittle, the sound scraping against the stunned quiet. “Oh, please,” she said, waving a dismissive hand. “Do you all really believe this nonsense?”Several heads turned.Blossom’s eyes locked onto Andrew, sharp and accusing. “Those gifts didn’t come from you. They came from Olivia’s money.”Olivia stiffened. “That’s not true.”Blossom ignored her. “A man without a real job suddenly shows up with diamonds, contracts, cars?” She scoffed. “Do you think we’re stupid?”Andrew remained seated, posture relaxed, hands folded loosely on the table. He did not rush to defend himself.Blossom pressed on, encouraged by his silence. “You’ve been living off my niece since day one. Using her money to buy favors and pretend you’re something you’re not.”Olivia pushed her chair back and stood. “I did not give him my money,” she said, voice clipped. “Not a single cent.”Blossom turned on her immediately. “Of
