CHAPTER ONE
Three hundred years ago, a strange portal opened in a small town called Greystone. Different kinds of monsters were seen crawling out of it.Some of the monsters were built for destruction while others were friendly with humans. Over time, these bonds birthed half human, half monster offspring. As the deadliest creatures slipped into the shadows, a prophecy foretold that Greystone's people would one day rise to match their power and they did.Through strange means, humans began to wake powers of their own, turning the tide in a war that never truly ended. The narrow street of greystone alley was filled with an early morning light. The mist covered the whole area which made it look as if the entire town of greystone were still asleep. The air smells like coal smoke coming from different shops and from a distance you could hear the church bell ringing.Thomas Walker, a seventeen year old teenager who was putting on a coat, was dashing down the alley with his heavy boots. His hair was b

At night, Thomas laid on his bed quietly in his room, a lamp was near his bed. The wind blew softly outside. While his mother slept peacefully in the next room with a blanket covering her from the cold..her breath was shallow but alright. She had fought hard through her recent illness, and Thomas felt the guilt of never having been able to help her more. The door creaked open. His father, Mr Walker, stepped into the hallway, a tall man with wrinkled hands and a face that had forgotten how to smile. His dark coat hung off him like a shadow."You're late," his father grumbled, voice low but sharp, hanging his coat beside the firewood."I ran into Duke today," Thomas replied, not bothering to sit up.Mr Walker turns into a grunt. "Same old excuse," he mutters while walking across the room."I'm tired of this nonsense, Thomas. I truly am. Can't you ever stand your ground? Must that boy humiliate you every time like a whipped dog?" He said."I landed a punch on him today," Thomas said, his

The train hissed to a stop, steam curling into the morning air like. One by one, students began to highlight from it in their black suits. They were filled with anticipation as they stepped onto the stone platform. Before them stood the greystone academy. It was not a simple building, it was a fortress carved into the heart of the mountain itself, its spires rising like black fingers into the cloudy sky.The walls are made of grey stone older than the town, as a glowing light pulsed faintly with magical energy. There were towering gates of steel, above was a massive crest carved a winged serpent coiled around sword, with the words "From shadow, power" written below in ancient words.Jerry whistled, adjusting his suit. "Wait...this is it? This is the academy?" He said, his voice rising in awe. “I don't think it'd be so big. It's like a castle."Thomas nodded slowly, his mouth slightly open. "It's...awesome," he said. The students, all ages seventy and turning, stood motionless as they

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the boy's dormitory, Duke sat on the edge of his bunk, scoffing at the edge memory of Mike's performance."So he's the so-called captain?" He said"What a loser." One of his friends named Saul. His closest friends, Brian and Saul nodded beside him."When I get my power, I'll crush him. I'll crush all of them. I'm not here to play knight. I'm here to be king." Duke muttered darkly."And we'll be right behind you?" Saul replied."Oh, you won't need to be, because there won't be anyone standing in front of me." Duke said. The next day, the morning light was reflecting into the academy through the windows. Students began to gather at the hall in numbers, their voices filled with excitement. They have been waiting for this day and it's time Thomas was standing beside Jerry as he was waiting for master Iverson to show up. His stomach filled with a mixture of dead and wonder."I can't believe it's finally here, what if I can fly? Or turn into stone?, mate, I've got a

Master Iverson frowned and asked. "Your age?""I'm eighteen, sir." Thomas replied.Iverson turned to Allison. She looked troubled."This ... hasn't happened before." He said. The silence was long. Student began whispering. Thomas's throat was dry, his face was already red."I...I don't understand..." Thomas muttered. He turned and pushed through the crowd, students were mocking him and he passed. He ran down the stone corridor. Up the stairs, past the library and into the dormitory.Thomas slammed the door behind and collapsed on the bed. And for the first time since arriving at the academy...he cried. That was the beginning of his humiliation in the academy. Weeks passed, Thomas was getting bullied constantly for being weak and not having any powers. He already accepted his fate to die as a loser"Get your lazy butt up already, Thomas! Go get the recipes for my delicious soup from the farm land!" An elderly man voiced hastily, and a teenage boy rushed out from his room all dressed in

"I can't let you burn down this place! You will have to go through me first!" Thomas voiced, clenching his right fist and punched Duke across the face.Thomas pulled his fist backwards once more and attempted to hit Duke, but Saul boy from the defenders of the city grabbed him from behind and held his two arms."You damn human! You dare lay your filthy hands on me! After all what you have done for you guys and this city, you dare challenge me? You are dead meat!" Duke roared as he picked himself off the floor and walked towards Thomas who was held down by Saul."Let me go!" Thomas struggled to break free, but Saul's strength was greater than Thomas's."Saul! Hold him still!" Duke roared, and Saul did as he was told. Duke, then clenched his right fist tightly and flames formed around it before punching Thomas hard on his belly. The punch connected neatly, causing Thomas' jacket to burn slightly and he coughed up blood. The lady amongst the group closed her eyes as she knew what type of

"But be calm, I am not here to harm you," the monster said calmly."I will let you leave my domain unharmed but on one condition," It said.Duke curiosity made him have an encounter with quantum shadow. "What's it you want?" Duke asked. The quantum shadow went closer to Duke. "There's a boy, a foolish boy who is going to stumble up on a power that should not exist in this world" it said with seriousness."This boy is going to grow and be the most powerful and I don't want that to happen and I'm sure you don't want that to happen" Quantum shadow said with seriousness.Quantum Shadow's eyes were fixated on Duke and its expression was serious. "You must stop this boy before it's too late," it said."The powers he will stumble upon are ancient and powerful and if he is allowed to wield them he will become the most powerful in the world," the creature said."Most powerful? I can't let that happen" Duke said with anger."You must find him beside it, it's too late," the creature said."If yo

He said.He stared at the glowing screen again as it flickered softly, ready for the next command."I'm running late to see master Iverson," Thomas said as he remembered that master Iverson had requested his presence. The path to power had opened and this time, Thomas Walker wouldn't be left behind.Thomas walked slowly through the hallways, he was looking calm but his thoughts we

Days passed, it's a calm morning in the academy. All students were present in the hall waiting for Master Iverson to address them.Thomas stepped forward and everywhere became silent. "What's he up to" they were murmuring."I, Thomas walker, I challenge you, Duke to a duel" Thomas said after deep thoughts, he knew this was the only way to end it."Are you for real dude?" Duke said, looking surprised about how confident Thomas was."Yes Duke, are you scared," Thomas Walker said, trying to push Duke to accept his request."Are you crazy, Thomas, its suicide," Jerry said in shock."I got this," Thomas said."Alright then, it seems this boy hasn't learned his lessons man," Duke said as he looked over to his gang “The fight will be held by four pm. Thomas shouted as he was racing as he stood between Jerry and them. Duke and his guys stopped for a moment while turning to face him.The Duke snorted while one of the Duke guys tilted its head and made a mocking sneer. The Duke then let out a low rumbling laugh."Look at this little guy, you think you can stop us boy" Saul, one of the duke guys hissed while showing his tongue.Brave but foolish, what do you plan to do? Fight us? With what?" Saul, one of the duke guys said with a low growl.Thomas' mind raced for a second and he began to doubt his abilities. What was he doing? These weren't just any t
