System Awakening: Rise Of Thomas Walker

CHAPTER TEN

As Thomas and master Iverson were hesitant, Duke immediately ran and grabbed Jerry, Thomas' friend.

"Duke stop this madness" Master Iverson said.

"Should I intervene, master," Mike whispered to Master Iverson.

"Hold on," Master Iverson said.

His fist was clenched tightly and without thinking, Thomas stepped forward with his voice louder and more confident than he felt.

"Leave him alone!" Thomas shouted as he was racing as he stood between Jerry and them. Duke and his guys stopped for a moment while turning to face him.

The Duke snorted while one of the Duke guys tilted its head and made a mocking sneer. The Duke then let out a low rumbling laugh.

"Look at this little guy, you think you can stop us boy" Saul, one of the duke guys hissed while showing his tongue.

Brave but foolish, what do you plan to do? Fight us? With what?" Saul, one of the duke guys said with a low growl.

Thomas' mind raced for a second and he began to doubt his abilities.

What was he doing? These weren't just any thugs, they were powerful and dangerous creatures and he had no experience fighting anyone let alone bandits like these.

But the system was awakened inside him and Duke pushed him forward and his body began to tense and he could feel the energy within him.

The system screen appeared in front of him once again but this time it is more urgent.

URGENT MISSION: PROTECT THE HOST

STRENGTH BOOST: ACTIVATED

Nightshade blade: ACTIVATED

Power blast: READY TO USE

Suddenly Thomas felt his hand vibrating as something strange happened. A glow began to show from his palm and within seconds the Nightshade blade was on his hand while it was glowing with a bright blue light.

"Holy smokes!" Thomas said with excitement.

The power sparked like electricity as it formed a solid shape in his hand, a weapon he never thought he would hold but now it felt natural.

"What the hell is this?" Duke and his guy's laughter stopped, one of the Duke’s eyes narrowed as the mocking sneer faded and he began to take a cautious step backwards.

Duke seemed not to be shocked as he is now eyeing Thomas with more interest than before.

"You've got a trick up your sleeve, I see, but you're still not a match for me" the Duke rumbles, as his words send shivers down Thomas' spine.

But Thomas stood his ground as he hid grip tightening on the Nightshade blade.

The weapon was filled with raw power in his hand and despite the few still in him he felt a sense of control as if the system was guiding him, showing him how to harness the energy inside him.

"Last chance, leave us alone or I'll make you" Thomas said with confidence, the Duke began to laugh again.

"Make me?" With that the Duke charged forward while swinging its massive arm down at Thomas with a Duke that could have crushed him easily. But something strange happens.

Thomas was fast enough to step aside and the Duke arm slamming into the ground with a loud crash.

Before Duke could recover, Thomas immediately raised the Nightshade blade and slash Duke arm.

The blade sliced through the air quickly and cut into the Duke's thick skin. A roar of pain erupted from the creature as it stumbled backwards while holding its wounded arm.

Saul, one of Duke’s guys snarled as he stepped forward with fury in his eyes, his claws raised and ready to strike but Thomas was ready.

His mind seems to connect with the system and guide his actions. In an instant Thomas activated Power blast, sending a shockwave of energy out from his body.

The shockwave hit one of Duke’s guys’ chest and sent him flying backwards and hit himself on the wall with a heavy thud.

Saul, one of the duke guys, was on the ground and was unable to move. The crowd around them gasped in shock and surprise while some of them were backing away in fear while others watched in surprise at the sudden display of power.

Duke now bleeding from its arm as he stared at Thomas with boiling anger. "You little...."

Before Duke could finish the statement, the Nightshade blade in Thomas' hand became brighter and Thomas immediately stepped forward and stood tall despite the fear he was still having inside him.

He wasn't going to back down." Get out of here, this is your last warning" Thomas said coldly as he stared directly into Duke's eye.

The Duke hesitated as he glanced at his fallen companion and then glanced at the blade in Thomas’s hand and for the first time this was uncertainty in his eyes.

With a low growl, Duke took a step back while holding his wounded arm. "This isn't over boy" he said before spitting on the ground before turning to retreat.

Saul, one of Duke’s guys, was still shaken by the shockwave as he got back up to his feet while glancing at Thomas with anger before leaving.

Thomas stood for a moment as his chest was beating fast as the adrenaline coursed through him.

Slowly the Nightshade blade vanished out of existence and the weight of what just happened began to sink, Thomas turned to Jerry who was still on the ground staring at him in disbelief.

"Thomas, what just happened?" he whispered as his voice was filled with shock.

"I don't know, but I think I'm changing, it's all over now," Thomas said calmly even though the adrenaline was still in his veins.

Thomas extended a hand to Jerry to help him get up off the ground.

Jerry was still frozen in shock as his eyes widened with disbelief as he glanced at Thomas' face and searched for an explanation.

He had always known him as a quiet and timid boy and too weak to defend himself let alone stand up to dangerous Duke.

But just now he had witnessed him fend off a Duke and his friend as though it was a piece of cake.

"Thomas, how did you do that?" Jerry said with his voice shaky. Thomas shook his head as he was avoiding his gaze.

"Congratulations Thomas Walker, for coming out victorious in this battle" Master Iverson said as he clapped for him.

"Thank you sir" Thomas replied.

"Meet me in my office first thing tomorrow" Mater Iverson said with a serious look.

"Is there a problem sir?" Thomas asked.

"It's urgent, meet me at 9pm tomorrow...don't be late" Master Iverson said before leaving the hall.

Duke sat from afar as he watched them celebrate Thomas, he boiled in anger. "How did this kid get so strong overnight, he's weak and powerless?" Duke said.

"Well we all saw what he did, that's not ordinary... perhaps he has awakened his powers but kept it a secret" Saul said.

"I haven't seen such movement and ability before" Duke said then suddenly he remembered what the quantum shadow told him in the forest.

"Could it be him? It can't be," Duke said with seriousness.

"Could it be what? What do you think of Duke?" Saul asked.

"Remember the guy I told you I'm searching for?" Duke asked.

"What guy? The one the quantum shadow told you about?" Saul asked.

"Yeah, I think I've found the guy," Duke said.

"Who is it? Tell me," Saul asked them as he saw Duke looking towards Thomas.

"Wait what? Him? Thomas?" Saul said shockingly.

"He's the boy quantum shadow warned me about...he has stumbled upon the power" Duke said as he tightened his fists.
