Chapter 001 – The West End
***** If there was one battleground the world dreaded above most... one that has become the very symbol of death, it was undoubtedly the West End. Millions of soldiers had already met their ends here in the most ruthless, unceremonious ways. Every single day at West End, soldiers were filled with the same two questions. ‘Will I survive tomorrow?’ ‘Is today the day I die?' Surviving a day here wasn’t something you celebrated. If anything, it brought dread, exhaustion, and terror for the unknown, knowing you could still lose your life any second. …. Yet this very moment, the West End was the complete opposite of what it had been for five long, blood-soaked centuries. It was late into the night, yet the atmosphere was nearly beyond joyful. Millions of soldiers from Country Aran, covered in blood, sweat, battle scars, and injuries that could make an ordinary person faint from terror, were scattered on a wide plain, every last one of them appearing as though sanity had finally aba
Chapter 002 – Zach’s Retirement Reason
***** One after another, lavish offers came from the six men… offers that would have long made any normal person faint from shock and lose their minds. But Zachariah did not so much as blink. He just listened silently, not interrupting, reacting, or even raising an eyebrow. He let them finish presenting their offers before, finally, he opened his mouth with the same casual ease, his gaze still clear and calm, sweeping at all six men. “No," he responded. It was just one word spoken without the slightest tinge of hesitation or emotion. However, the impact was immediate. The six bowing figures froze for a second, then they trembled as though struck by lightning. In the following second, their risen hope collapsed into utter disbelief and shock, all six finding it difficult that Zach would refuse such offers. It took a moment before they recovered, and… “You… must you really leave?!” The president blurted, his expression turning pale. “The... the country might fall if you ret
Chapter 003 – “Master, I Will Retire With You!”
***** At this moment, all six men appeared completely frozen. Their mouths hung open, their eyes stretched wide, and their jaw dropped to the ground, all of them gawking at Zach like men who had just discovered the sky could fall. For years, they had wondered about his past, why he never smiled, and why his eyes had always been so cold and distant. And yet… The truth he just revealed shattered even the wildest guess they had ever made. They had known Zach for a few years already… and yet they none of them had ever guessed that beneath his calm, composed exterior lay a wound so deep that it would have broken any one of them beyond repair. Just like that, realization began to dawn on all six. ‘No wonder he had always been so merciless toward himself.’ ‘I get it now…’ The six men… especially the four Gods of War, who understood Zach better than the remaining two, felt their bodies turn slightly weak, memories of the past few years with him rushing back with blinding c
Chapter 004 – Zach’s Emotional Stir
***** Still in the tent. Zachariah watched the six men with his ever-unreadable face, though a faint tightening at his jaw betrayed the slightest stir of surprise. He hadn't anticipated this reaction… not the instinctive loyalty or the fire in their eyes. No, he hadn’t briefed his past with the six for pity, for validation, or because he expected them to leap to action. He had done it because they deserved some explanation. And yet, watching them, Zach couldn’t help but feel something unfamiliar prick at the edges of his consciousness. For the first time in years, a flicker of emotion stirred in him, and before he even realized it, his lips twitched… not fully, but enough to soften the cold mask he wore. Contrary to what most people assumed, Zach hadn’t come to the West End because he wanted to save the country. He had never fought with his life on the line for glory, praise, medals, titles, or even the endless worship shoved in his face. The only reason he had ever stepped
Chapter 005 – Departing the West End
***** Zach didn’t turn around immediately. He just stood for a moment, his back straight, his shoulders steady, and his eyes hidden from the six men’s view. Then, just slightly, he turned his head, casting them a sideways glance. However, at that very instant, something happened… something so rare that all six would later swear they had imagined it. Zach's lips curved slightly into a faint, genuine smile. Then he nodded his head once and resumed walking. This time, he didn’t stop again, departing instead. It took a moment… one that felt painfully long before the six men returned to their senses, and when they finally did, their already reddened eyes darkened further, turning crimson as their emotion surge, barely restrained. Tears pooled in their eyes without restraint, several of them sniffing hard to stop the tears from falling. “Thank you… Sir Supreme War God!” All six called out toward the direction Zach had disappeared. Their hearts clenched painfully in their chests,
Chapter 006 – The Vivid Memories
***** On the plane, seated by the window, Zach stared at the vast stretch of darkness outside, but his eyes weren’t focused on anything. If anything, they were fixed instead on the unfortunate night ten years ago… a memory that surfaced every single time he was alone and even more vividly each time he briefed it just as he had in the tent earlier. Once again, Zach could see the scene of his father shielding him, his brother, and their mother, from the raging fire with nothing but his own body, his arms wide. Although a decade had passed, the way the inferno wrapped around his father's body, consuming him, was still very clear in his mind. Then there was his father's agonizing scream that still echoes fresh in Zach’s head, refusing to fade no matter how many years passed. …. Then there was his mother. Zach could still see the horrified look on her face, but even then, she still forced herself to act, dragging him and his brother through the flame. As though it just happened, th
Chapter 007 – The Vivid Memories II
***** After Zach finished reliving the most brutal deaths of the three most important people in his life, his eyes turned ice-cold, a chill radiating from him, rapidly spreading around. Fortunately, he snapped back right before he lost control. Then he clenched his fists tightly. “Even if I only have a single breath left,” he muttered under his breath, his voice low that it barely counted as sound, “I will make sure I sacrifice it to make you all pay in blood for what you’ve done.” The words were quiet and almost calm, yet the chill and murderous intent behind them was anything but. Ultimately, Zach exhaled slowly, forcefully reining in his emotions. Following this, the tension in his shoulders eased, and just like that, his thoughts slipped backward again. It returned to the scene after his mother had used the last of her strength to shove him out of the kitchen, locking the door behind her. Zach, alone in the burning mansion, had sat frozen on the ground. Despite the ut
Chapter 008 – "I Have Returned... to Marry You"
***** Zach’s eyes suddenly snapped back to the present as his cell phone vibrated twice in his hand. The device was oddly shaped, its design so archaic that it was more suited to a museum than a modern pocket. Unhurriedly, Zach glanced down at the screen, and… he paused. Two encrypted messages are currently flashing on it. Seeing this, his brows furrowed slightly, but still, he calmly pressed his thumb against the screen, and instantly, a greenish light spread beneath his fingerprint, a scanning interface blooming to life. A moment later, the scan was completed, and immediately, a notification popped up. [Identity confirmed.] Then the screen shifted, and the first encrypted message quietly opened before his eyes. [Supreme Overlord,] it read. [We have, due to our incapability, failed to discover the true masterminds behind the night’s incident. However, several prime suspects have been identified. We shall accept whatever punishment you deem appropriate for our failure.]
Chapter 009 – Crossway City
***** “Huh…” Just as Zach stepped off the airplane and entered the terminal, a faint crease formed between his brows as his gaze swept across the scene ahead… then stalled. At this moment, the airport, which should have been nearly empty at such a late hour, was packed to the brim. A dense mass of people stretched as far as his eyes could see, voices overlapping, lights blazing, and the air buzzing with excitement that felt wildly out of place. What truly left him slightly confused, however, wasn’t the gathering itself… it was the people in it. As his eyes focused, he recognized each face one after the other. At the front, the man standing at the far left... with his head held high and his posture stiff with authority, was the patriarch of one of Crossway’s top financial families. The woman beside him, draped in luxury from head to toe, even at this hour, was a well-known figure from the city’s business council. Further to the side, Zach spotted leaders of major organizati
Chapter 010 – The Four Arrogant Young Men
***** As it turned out, Crossway City’s higher-ups had already learned of West End’s victory, and more importantly, they had discovered that the Supreme War God had originated from Crossway and that he was returning tonight. That was why everyone of them had gathered at the airport with their families in tow, bringing the most exquisite gifts they could find… antiques, rare treasures, family heirlooms, and even assets worth small nations. All of it to impress him, gain his favor, and catch his attention. The realization hit Zach like a slap to the face, and for a brief moment, his eyes couldn't help but narrow slightly. His first thought was that the six men at the West End had betrayed him. But then the thought barely lasted a second before he dismissed it, knowing that only one person was mischievous enough to pull something like this… his master. The man was one of the most powerful and oldest entities Zach had ever known… and yet, he was also the most infuriatingly chil
