Chapter 1 — Max’s Death
The rain came down hard.Max ran with his head down, jacket pulled tight over the starter package pressed against his chest. The streets were mostly empty at this hour, just wet concrete and the distant hiss of cars on the main road two blocks over. Every screen he passed threw light into the puddles at his feet.DIVINE EPOCH ONLINE — LAUNCH NIGHTREAL MONEY TRADING APPROVED FROM DAY ONETURN YOUR LOOT INTO INCOMEHe wasn’t running because of the rain.Rent was three weeks overdue. His mother had worked the last eleven nights straight. Her blood pressure medication had run out four days ago and she kept saying she would pick it up on her next day off, which hadn’t come yet. She had left rice and stew in a covered pot on the stove before leaving for her shift, and on the lid she had placed a sticky note that said — Eat when you get back. Don’t wait for me.He had not eaten. He ran faster. The starter package had cost him two months of side work. The Second hand haptic gloves and Basic
Chapter 2: Soul Fusion
He laid on the road, the pain still pouring in waves. The fragments from before his death tried to rise again. Tribulation lightning. Figures waiting at the edge of the storm, striking only after the heavens had already done the work. His fingers clenched into a fist.“If even one of you survived the backlash, pray I don’t find my way back.”Then a set of foreign memories pushed through his head.“What are all these strange memories flowing into my mind?” Ravan thought to himself as fragment after fragment pushed through. He had lived for thousands of years, so a few decades of someone else’s life was nothing he could not sort through. But what caught him was not the volume of the memories. It was the world itself. This was not any of the seven realms.“I have never heard of a place like this…” Ravan continued to absorb Max’s memories and organize them. Because of the strength of his soul, he could recall everything Max had ever seen or done. Even things Max himself had forgotten. The
Chapter 3 — Breaker of Limits
Ravan’s vision went black the moment the headset activated.A second passed. Then the system came online.Beep… Beep… Beep…System booted. Welcome to Divine Epoch Online. The scan started immediately.Ding! Physical scan initiated.Something moved through the body from the crown of his head down to his feet. Not spiritual sense exactly, but close enough that he understood what it was doing. The game was reading the body before it built the character. He waited.Ding! Because your body control is strong, you have been given an Agility boost!Ding! That was useful to know. Then one more alert appeared.Ding! You
Chapter 4 — First Baneful Sword: Sever
The tutorial marker led Ravan away from the instructor area and toward the far end of the village.A small training room sat beside the main yard. The door opened when he reached it and closed behind him.Stone floor. A weapon rack along the wall. One training dummy in the center. No instructor. No guide. No skill book.Ravan looked around the room once, then read the tutorial objective again. Objective: Create or demonstrate one Arank combat technique. He walked to the weapon rack and picked up a practice sword. He swung it once slowly. Light, dull, badly balanced. He adjusted his grip and turned to face the dummy. He did not move immediately.Wrist. Shoulder. Footwork. Breathing. The body was still weak in places, but it responded well enough. He raised the sword. The first swing landed clean against the dummy’s center.42The dummy rocked.Ding! Combat pattern detected. Registration incomplete.Ravan reset his stance. He adjusted his grip slightly lower and breathed once. The secon
Chapter 5 — Scheming Against A Demonic Cultivator
The village was still noisy when Ravan stepped out of the training room.Players stood around the square talking over each other. Some had run to their instructors. Others stood refreshing the announcement on their interface.“Player XXXX?”“He created an Arank skill?”“The game just opened.”“Maybe it’s a hidden class.”“Then where is he?”“Why would he stand around after hiding his name?”Ravan walked past them without stopping.Near the side of the square, Tobin saw the sword first. He was standing with Garrick and Tessa. He stopped midsentence when Ravan passed, his eyes following the blade across Ravan’s back.“That sword looks special,” Tobin said.Garrick looked up and saw Ravan heading toward the forest path. A new player, alone, already heading for the forest.“He’s going out by himself?” Tessa asked.Tobin’s eyes were still on the sword. “Looks like it.”Garrick smiled. “Then let’s ask.”They moved without waiting.Garrick reached him first.“Hey.”Ravan kept walking.“You h
Chapter 6 — The First Hunt
The group followed the forest path until the noise from the village thinned behind them. The road narrowed after a few minutes. Tree roots broke through the dirt underfoot and the canopy closed overhead. Other players were still nearby but most stayed close to the village entrance, fighting over the safer mobs.Garrick kept walking.Tobin glanced back. “We’re going this far?”“You want to fight over rabbits with everyone else?”“I didn’t say that.”“Then keep walking.”Tessa adjusted her grip on her staff. “There are still boars closer to the village.”“And ten parties waiting for each one,” Garrick said. “We came out early for a reason.”Ravan said nothing.Garrick looked back at him. “You fine?”“Yes.”“Combat experience?”“When needed.”Tobin laughed. “Quiet one.”Tessa looked at him. “Better than you.”“Wow. First hunt and I’m already being attacked.”“You started it.”Garrick raised a hand before Tobin could answer. The brush ahead moved.A heavy shape pushed through the undergro
Chapter 7 — Temporary Arrangement
The group had not gone far past the Thornback Lizard when a howl tore through the forest.Deep. Rough. Loud enough to cut through the trees.Tobin stopped first. “What was that?”Another sound came before anyone answered.CRASH—Steel hitting something solid. Then a voice from deeper in the trees.“Back! Don’t take that headon!”A scream followed.Garrick’s face shifted. “Boss.”He moved toward the sound without waiting. Tobin went right after him. Tessa clicked her tongue and followed. Ravan came last. The trees opened into a clearing.A fight was already happening inside.Four players. One was on the ground crawling backward, his HP bar almost empty. Another was trying to pull him clear. A tall player with a shield and axe stood between them and the monster, taking the hits directly. Behind him a girl with a staff moved constantly, healing only after damage landed. Then the monster turned and Ravan saw it fully.Dark fur. Long limbs. A black mane thick around its neck. Its claws dra
Chapter 8 — Blood Step
The Shadowfang Wolf King lowered its body.Lyra saw it first. “Pounce!”The wolf launched.Ravan stood in the open line but Hale moved before anyone else could.“Sun Shield!”Gold light flashed across the shield as Hale cut in front of Ravan and braced.BOOM—The wolf crashed into the shield and drove Hale back across the dirt. His boots dragged two lines through the ground before he stopped.96 HPLyra lifted her staff. “Light Mend.”+74 HPHale rolled his shoulder. “Still hits like a damn cart.”“Then stop taking it straight,” Lyra said.“I had a shield up.”“Barely.”The wolf landed and turned. Its claws scraped the ground as it reset.Garrick looked at Hale, then at Ravan. “Hale, make me party leader.”Hale kept his shield raised. “Why?”“I want to put Ravan back in. His damage is higher.”Tobin clicked his tongue. “So I’m out?”“For now. You can still shoot.”Lyra looked from Garrick to Ravan. “If he’s taking the risk, put him in.”Hale was not happy about it, but the wolf was al
Chapter 9 — Five-Fold Slash
Garrick stepped away from the boss line and faced Ravan. The smile was gone.“Drop the sword.”Behind him, the Shadowfang Wolf King was still circling. Hale was wounded from Tobin’s arrow. Lyra had her staff raised, keeping Hale standing while watching the boss. Ravan looked at Garrick with a smirk.“Finally tired of pretending?”Garrick’s expression shifted. He had expected fear. Anger. Maybe Ravan trying to bargain. Not this calmness.“You knew?”Ravan chuckled. “Kid, with those greedy eyes of yours, even a fool could see through your act.”Tobin’s face tightened. “Shut up.”Garrick lifted his blade. “Last chance. Drop it, or die here.”Ravan looked at him. “Make me.”Tobin fired first.“Piercing Shot!”Twang—The arrow drove toward Ravan’s chest.Blood Step: 8 seconds remaining.Ravan moved sideways. The arrow passed through empty air.He rushed Tobin.Tobin’s eyes went wide. “Garrick!”Ravan reached him before he could draw another arrow.First cut across his chest.-76 HPTobin
Chapter 10 — First World Boss
Lyra’s eyes moved from Ravan’s sword to the wolf.“You want to handle the wolf yourself?”Ravan looked at the Shadowfang Wolf King.It was wounded but not weak. Blood darkened the fur around its shoulder and its claws dug into the dirt as it circled, eyes focused on Ravan [World Boss]Shadowfang Wolf KingLevel: 10HP: 560/2,800“Yes,” Ravan said.Hale let out a tired breath. “Of course.”Lyra glanced at him. “Can you still move?”“Barely.”“Good, we’re sitting this one out.”Hale looked at her. “That’s your plan?”“That’s my advice.”Ravan stepped forward. “Stay out of it.”Hale’s eyes moved to him. “You sure?”Ravan did not answer. The wolf moved first. It rushed low, aiming for his leg.Ravan shifted back and cut down across its snout.-74The wolf jerked aside, then swiped immediately.Ravan caught the claw on the flat of the Nameless Blood Sword but the force still pushed him back.-28 HPHe planted his foot and cut across the wolf’s foreleg before it fully recovered.-69Hale’s
