Chapter 11: A life for a life.

Seeing how bad they were and his mission depends on saving the three of them, Stan said, “Ling, quick, we must get them to a hospital.”

“No,” Rudo struggled to speak out even in his pain.

“Save your strength, bro.” Ling said to him.

But he wouldn’t listen as he knew that his time had come. “Leave me here. I can’t make it.”

“We are not leaving you.” Ling Tingzhe and Stan Gibson disagreed strongly with him. Their focus was more on him because he was wounded in a more critical place than Trisha.

“Thank you Gibson, I wanted you dead yet you are still here trying to save my life. I regret not giving you the chance for us to be friends and in my I wish we could be brothers.” Rudo said his last words as he drew his last breath.

“No, no, no,” Ling cried as he shook the lifeless body of Rudo, focusing him to wake up. Aside from Rudo being his greatest competitor when it comes to speed, he was also a great friend and his death would so much affect him. He was not ready to lose him like that. “Rudo, you have to wake up. Guess what, we are going to Africa after graduation.” Ling was saying those to revive him because Rudo always dreamt of going back to his home country.

“He is gone. Come on Ling, he is gone.” Stan said to him after seeing that all effort to revive Rudo was a waste.

It was as this moment that he remembered Trisha who was also hurt in the fight, at this moment she had passed out due to excess loss of blood, she had focused so much on putting pressure on Rudo’s wound to keep him alive forgetting that she also need to put some pressure on her own wounds and stop the bleeding.

“Ling, we have to go now or Trisha dies too.” He said as he lifted Trisha off the ground.

Reminding Ling about Trisha made him get on his feet and ask. “Which way to the hospital?” Having lost Rudo, he was not ready to lose another colleague.

Stan was also confused on which way to go as he too did not know his way around. He had been in the school for two years and a lot had changed. He was not even sure if there was a hospital that still functions anywhere close to them. Most of the technologies and facilities have all been moved to a special part of the country which was mainly inhabited by the elites.

After looking to and fro confused, he came to pick the direction that leads back to the first place where he had woken after the attack of those thugs that resulted in Adoth coming into his life. “This way, follow me.”

His reason for going back that way was because he could recall seeing some medical tools and would be of great help in treating Trisha and making sure she survives the wound.

They took a shortcut which Stan had discovered in the course of his escaping from the team of elites and soon they arrived at their destination even though it took about an hour to navigate through the shortcut and arrive back at the desolate building.

“Take her upstairs to the bedroom.” Stan said to Ling as he placed Trisha in his arms while he looked around the house to find those medic tools which he saw earlier in the place.

“Yes! I found it!” Stan exclaimed as he found the first aid box. Grabbing it, he ran upstairs to join Ling in the bedroom and see what they can do with the first aid box which they’ve got.

Back at the scene where Stan, Ling, Rudo and Trisha had fought with the aliens, Master Sullivan Nathan and the other five elite students got there following the trials which Lisa Perry gave to them. Getting there she stopped even before sighting the corpse of Rudo Walid. His dead body was in a corner that was not open to quick view. Lisa sensed something that was why she stopped when they got to the location.

Master Sullivan Nathan, who was already furious because of their prolonged search for Stan Gibson, a young fellow who he never expected to be difficult for them to catch, had to ask her in an odd turn. “Why are we stopping?”

“Sir, I think….” Lisa stammered.

But Lisa wasn’t allowed to finish what she had to say before Sullivan interrupted her, jumping into conclusion. “Don’t tell me you’ve lost their trail again.” He was expecting that to be what she would say since she had said that some time ago in the course of this mission. His increased anger was not only because they hadn't found and caught Stan but also because the two students he sent out to pursue him were also nowhere to be found and it was getting him worried.

“Not really sir,” Lisa stuttered as that seemed to get his attention to hear what she had to say was the issue this time around. “I sense something strange and it’s a bad omen.”

“Hey young lady, we do not have time for this, what direction did they take?” Sullivan was still in his furious temper and ‘they’ in this context was referring to Rudo, Ling and Stan, if possibly Trisha also.

Meanwhile, as the other students heard Lisa’s words about a bad omen, they began to look around as they prepared for danger, probably another attack from those thugs because they didn’t get the opportunity to kill them in their first and last encounter.

“Sir,” Oscar Johnston called for his attention as he sighted someone that looked like Rudo Walid lying at a corner of the street.

At the sound of his call, they all looked in the direction which he pointed towards. They were all in shock as they could tell for sure that it was Rudo who was lying there. Atkinson Marvin and Jerald Burns were the only ones who had the boldness to go closer to take a clearer look, even master Sullivan didn’t have that level of courage at the moment, he was short of words as he could tell on his own that that was the bad omen which Lisa had just spoken about.

“Sir, he is dead.” Atkinson said after confirmation and that was when Sullivan decided to draw closer to the corpse.

As for people like Lisa and Oscar who probably haven’t seen a dead body before could not still move, they were afraid of drawing close, Callum Jones was the one who slowly followed Sullivan to take a clearer look at the corpse.

“This is the doing of that bastard and more reason why we have to catch him real quick.” Sullivan said as his hatred for Stan rose to its peak.

He did not say that because he thought or believed Stan was the one that killed Rudo, but he had to blame him because if he had not left the school secretly, then they wouldn’t have been out there in the place to have lost Rudo. He concluded in his heart that Rudo was killed by those thugs because of the piercing in his body, so he thought they were the ones that have killed him and harvested the chip in him, but then to make it look like it was Stan’s doing, he said to the other elites with him.

“Can you all see what that bastard did to your friend? He killed Rudo to take away his chip so he can be classified as one of us. But are we going to allow such a thing to happen?”

“No sir.” They all chorus as they did have nothing else to believe, the lie seemed to be true because of the opening in Rudo’s body.

“In that case what are you going to do?” he asked to hear their response so it wouldn’t be as if he is the one telling them what to do, he was simply planting hatred in their hearts as he forced words out of their mouth.

“Bring him to Justice.” Jerald answered.

Then Atkinson added, “We will make him pay. A life for a life.”

“Exactly,” Sullivan said as he turned to Lisa. “Tell us which way to take.”

“What about Rudo? Don’t tell me we are going to leave him here?” Oscar asked.

“Of course not, we are taking him with us back to the school. We have to pay homage to him and also let the counsel know what that bastard had done.” Sullivan answered Oscar’s question as he signaled Callum on what to do with the corpse.
