CHAPTER FIVE.

“Good evening sir” one of his helpers greeted as Alex walked into the house.

“Make me some coffee” Alex answered immediately and her face went haywire.

Alex had told them he didn’t like coffee just yesterday right? Why did he suddenly want coffee?

“Why do you look so stunned?” He asked when he noticed the look on her face, “did I say something not worth understanding?”

“Not exactly sir” she quickly bowed, “I will make the coffee”

Just as she saw going into the kitchen, Esmeralda was coming down the stairs. Shs had a few bedsheets with her and her face ceased into a smile.

“You are finally home, do you still feel sick?” She questioned, her voice was laced with a lot of concern.

“I feel better, i will be in my room”

After talking he made his way upstairs and went straight into the shower while a certain thought was lingering in his mind.

Alexander Chase was a no nonsense man and he single handedly made a name for himself, he didn’t have any friends but he had someone though. The person always went with him anywhere he went but right now that person was out of the country.

Maybe he would need that person’s help to be able to fully become Alexander chase.

By the time he was done with bathing, his coffee was already on the table near his bed and he just slumped on the bed and gulped the whole thing down.

First thing in becoming Alexander chase, he had to like coffee.

A soft knock on his door made him raise his head and Esmeralda entered with a trolley containing different dishes.

Alex almost cringed when he saw what the trolly contained, sea food. He hated any kind of seafood, he was more of a vegetarian.

“Dinner is ready Alex” she announced and made to dish it but he gestured for her to stop.

“Can I have some vegetables instead? Most preferably a bowl of soup, I am not really in the mood for all these extravagance”

Esmeralda looked at him for a while and shrugged her shoulders,

“Okay, I will have a bowl of soup sent here and also Clarrisa said she was coming. I think she will be spending the night”

Alex’s forehead creased into a frown when he heard her,

“She has a house so why is she coming here?”

The woman sighed, “it’s Friday Alex, she always spends the weekend here with you. She is your fiancé”

“Oh, okay”

Then he watched her push the trolly out of the room again and his mind drifted back to Clarrisa.

She always stayed the weekend? How close were they by the way? He hated that lady.

As if the universe was on his side his cell phone began to ring and his heart almost jumped into his mouth when he saw the caller ID.

That someone was calling him.

“Hello” he pressed the phone against his ears.

“Hey Alex” a feminine voice filtered into his ears,

“Aiden called me, what the hell happened?”

Yes, this was the lady that Alex never joked about, she was more like his best friend. She was the only person who could get through to him if others couldn’t and Alex trusted her with everything he has got. She was married with a kid but the relationship the two of them shared never dwindled, they were almost joined at the hip.

“I guess Aiden told you everything” he said with a sigh, if truly this girl was Alex’s best friend then he didn’t have to be weary of her instead he was going to use her, he would need her help along the way. Right now he was like a headless chicken thrown out in the dark.

“When are you coming back, Bianca?”

“Next month, why?” The lady from the other end asked.

“Can you shorten your trip?”

Bianca sighed, “Aiden was right after all, you can’t remember anything. Williams is in the hospital and I can’t leave him all alone”

“Williams?”

“My husband Alex” Bianca almost yelled, “is something wrong? You sound so tense.

“Let’s just talk when you get back okay? My regards to williams”

After a while the lady sighed, “okay, I will take a quick trip down this weekend and we can talk okay?”

“Sure, thank you”

“Thank you?”

“Just come soon” Alex said and ended the call.

How was he going to tell her that the person she was talking so casually to was not even the person she knew. That Alex was somewhere else and his body was being inhabited by a fifteen year old social nerd.

Well if she was really his best friend then she had to believe it.

Haven done that, he threw open his laptop and continued to study more about Alexander chase.

Just like him, Alex wasn’t a social butterfly either.

another knock on is door again and Alex sighed, why did the people in this house all nosy?

When the door opened and he almost puked when she entered. Didn’t no one tell her she was not attractive even in the least.

“I called you but you were on a long call, who were you talking to?” Clarrisa questioned as she sauntered into the room, “and you told me you were going to be busy but you are just scrolling through your computer lazily” she perched on the bed beside him.

“It is late Clarissa, why are you here?” Alex asked, his attention was fixated on the computer screen in front of him which made the lady pout. Over the last few months he got a little better but now he was worse, more worse.

“We agreed that I will always spend the weekend here right?”

“Did we agree or you agreed on your own?”

Clarrisa didn’t know wether to laugh or to cry, this man was just so annoying.

“Can you look at me and stop looking at your computer?”

Alex sighed while massaging the space between his brows. The only reason why Clarrisa was still beside him was because he was yet to figure out everything, the moment he did, she was going to be out of his life in no time.

“You should sleep in the guest room Clarrisa”

Her face went from happy to sad in an instant,

“Why?” Clarrisa stood up and failed her hand across

her chest, “do I irritate you?”

“Yes” he wanted to say but instead focused his attention on the computer again.

“Say something Alex”

“Stop bothering me Clarissa” he finally yelled and she froze, “I am so sick and I don’t need any kind of stress right now so please. If you can’t be quiet then just leave”

He was so tired of her, he badly wanted to tell her to stop forcing herself on a fifteen year old boy but he couldn’t and that was enough torture for him.

“Fine” Clarrisa perched on the bed again, “i didn’t mean to anger you” she added but was met with silence,

“Dad said you want to push the wedding forward”

“Yes, have a problem with that?

“Why? You didn’t even discuss it with me first. Are you planning on changing your mind?”

“Maybe”

“Alex!!!” The frustrated lady yelled.

“Lower your voice” he ordered.

He was purposely trying to rile her up and he was doing a good job at it, making their lives miserable was what he wanted to do now.

“What happened to you? You have just been behaving strangely since yesterday. You still can’t remember anything? Is that why you are behaving colder than usual?” This time around her voice was meek and filled with sadness, “should I call Aiden to come over? Maybe he can prescribe some medications for you”

“I am perfectly fine”

“Ughhh” Clarrisa sighed, “maybe I should have just stayed home”

Without saying anything again she picked up her bag and made for the door but Alex’s next question stops her.

“Tell me everything about her your dad”

A look of confusion appeared on her face right where she was standing.

“What do you mean?”

This time around the big guy stood up from his bed and walked over to her, his hands were gracing his pants pocket.

“Apparently I lost my memory and I need to know everything about my father in law, is that a bad thing to ask? It’s okay though if you don’t want to tell me”

After talking he turned back and walked to his bed, this time he sat down and crossed one leg over the other. With his disheveled hair and lazy model pose, Clarrisa couldn’t ignore it and rushed back to the bed.

“What do you want to know?”

“Everything and anything I should know about him and your family” if only she paid more attention, she would have seen the deadly smirk that was playing at the corners of his lips.

“Well” Clarissa started to say, “my dad is into a lot of stuff. He is a real estate agent, he owns an automobile company ranking one among the best in America and beyond”

“Did you say an automobile company?” This piqued his interest, he was sure that company belonged to his father.

“Yes, his best friend willed everything to him about ten years ago before he died”

“You know that story?”

“Everyone knows that story Alex, even you”

“I don’t remember, what about it?

Clarrisa stared deep into his eyes for a moment, she just couldn’t refuse him no matter how bad he treats her.

———FLASHBACK——-

Ten years ago, on the eve of Christmas. Clarrisa was in the living room with her mum watching some Christmas movies when the front door opened and Gerald sauntered into the house, he looked a bit tired.

“Daddy” thirteen year old Clarrisa rushed towards him and pounced into his embrace.

“Go to your room Clarrisa, I want to discuss with your mother”

“Okay dad” she answered but instead of going to her room, she hid behind the curtains and decided to eavesdrop on her parents.

“What happened Gerald? Why do you look so worried?

“Baxter is dead” Gerald announced and a silent gasp escaped his wife’s mouth.

“What? How did this happen?”

“I am just coming from the hospital, his whole family

was involved in an accident they died at the spot”

“Oh my gosh, this is sad news on a Christmas” she was genuinely feeling bad because the baxters were the only friends they actually had, this Christmas was sure to be a sad one.

“Have you already claimed the bodies?”

Gerald sighed and leaned back on the sofa, “I have already made necessary arrangements, they will be buried tomorrow”

“May their soul rest in peace”

“It seems Baxter knew this was going to happen”

Now his wife was confused, “how do you mean?”

“His lawyer called me in the hospital, he willed everything to me”

“How is that even possible?”

“I also don’t know, we will talk better after the burial”

When Gerald stood up to go, he saw Clarrisa standing and he sighed, his thirteen year old daughter has always been inquisitive.

“Even Jayden is dead too?” She asked.

Her father knelt in front of her, “everyone my darling”

*******

Alex’s hands were balled into a fist as he listened to Clarrisa narrate her story. So even his family lawyer had a hand in this? The nerve of all of them to commit such a crime against his family.

“Why do you look so angry Alex?” She ales when she noticed the countenance on his face, “do you feel bad for them?”

“Is this the story everyone knows?” Alex asked, his voice was quivering because he was angry.

“Yes. Since then, father has taken over the business”

“Hmmm”

Alex was literally shaking now, was he having a panic attack right now? His hands were shaking and he needed to steady himself.

“Can you make coffee for me?”

“You said you don’t take coffee”

“Coffee, Clarissa”

“Sure”

She quickly sauntered out of the room while Alex rushed into his bathroom and turned on the shower. He allowed the water to splash on his body and sip through his clothes.

He needed to calm down, he wanted to calm down. This was a lot of information for him to process at the moment, his brain was not yet stable.

His mind drifted back to Gerald and he balled his hand into a fist, now he knew Gerald never worked alone.

He had some cohorts by his side.

“This is going to be your biggest regret Gerald, you messed with the wrong person this time around”

The last thing he would do was allow that murderer to enjoy the money he stole from him.

Talking about money, his mind drifted off to the documents he left on the bed. Did Gerald get his hands on it or was it lying around somewhere?

A lot of questions were just popping in his head until his revirie was cut short by a knock on his bathroom door.

“I have brought the coffee Alex”

An idea popped in his head, he turned off the shower and walked towards the door of his bathroom.

“Clarrisa?”

“Yes” she was standing right outside.

“Should we play a little game?” He inquired with a smirk.

Her forehead creased into a frown, “what kind of a fake Alex? And why should we be playing games in the first place?

“Are you in?”

“What’s the game about Alex?”

“Get me your father’s account book from the past ten years, I want to give him a surprise wedding present”

This was it, he would be able to know if Gerald got a hold of the documents on his bed ten years ago if he checked his account books.
