Chapter 9

"Watch out!"

We're in the second phase of the examination. The Ghost can easily possess the one who has negativity. Half of the examiners had already surrendered their minds to the sinister darkness.

"S-sister!" and we're being attacked by our own kind. Naturally, this will be nothing if I don't have someone who needs to protect.

Creating multiple types of weapons at once is taking my vigour, and even pushing me to my limit. But I have no choice. While shielding this child from harm, the guy who helped me before is ruthlessly taking the life of the mindless students. The pattern of red dots unfurled across my vision by then. The dots hung there for a while, burying a sword in one's face doesn't seem to be a problem to him at all.

"A monster."

Only a monster could do that. The students are begging for their lives, yet his ears were shut. He doesn't mind or probably he doesn't care at all.

Although I'm not in the right position to judge him, he has done nothing but protect us so far. However, just in case he dares to lay any single scratch on us, I won't hesitate to kill him.

"I'm sorry."

"Shut it. I'm going to fight the ghosts. Don't let negativity get you, stay here and if someone approaches you, don't hesitate to shout." I clearly asserted to the kid. "I can spare you a little of my artes. Don't move right in this spot or my artes will disappear." I instructed him what he was supposed to do.

"Hm, I got it."

Once I specified everything important. I made a small dome-shaped barrier, with blocks of Eis built up in a spiral. This will protect whoever waltzes near him. Catching the last glance at him, I'm still quite worried but, I will know if someone is approaching him since they have to break the barrier first before they can do something.

I diverted back to the battle. Massive blood has already spoiled everywhere. The glass wall was painted red, it's not a very artistic one though. The guy is still fighting, noticing that until now I haven't seen him using his artes. He is fighting the mindless students using his own strength and skill alone. I won't gonna lie, but he is a bit impressive.

On the other hand, the girls are fighting for their lives too.

"They are trying to survive on their own, eh?"

I'm glad they can manage on their own. No need to protect them in the end.

Anyways, back to the guy who is simply to be called mysterious. He is surrounded by the possessed ones. Targeting him like he was the only one who's taking an exam here, "This can't be happening! I'm here too!"

Interfering with their fun by jumping in the middle of the chaotic fight.

"What are you doing? I'm letting you hook off, why did you come here for?" The guy thinks he is the main character here, huh?

I gritted my teeth in excitement. "If I want you to let me hook, then I shouldn't have entered this goddamn examination from the start!"

It wasn't a complaint but I yelled at him.

"Tch."

Forming a double-edge sword that has a blade length of 55 inches, it possessed a very broad blade and a slim channel, called a fuller, to slightly reduce its weight. Though it was fabricated by my Eis, I made certain that my copy would produce the same results as a real claymore. The strength and power I require to cut everything and murder everyone will be delivered by this weapon.

"Are you sure that you are capable of fighting?"

"What?! Are you underestimating me?"

The two of us slightly glanced at each other, I felt the same uneasiness and disquietude from him. However, he surprised me with a clicking smile in the end. Charging in was the next thing we did, slashing here and there. We quickened delivering the possessed students to their end, one will get slashes in half, and one will get beheaded. Showering in their own blood, I have to admit, it stinks.

"Ahh—." All you could hear from here was nothing but screaming. Closing my sense of hearing is very necessary at times like this.

I don't hear them, it's better this way. Like what they say, it's better to kill than to be killed.

The whole scene was like a party for murderers, but we're not murdering them because we like it. This is most likely what those fools wanted to see.

"Sister...! A-ah—"

"Gasps!"

I heard the kid's screaming, I quickly glanced as I saw for myself that one of the possessed was trying to break the barrier I made, she already delivered a crack on it which made me furious.

"Damn you! Don't touch him!" rushing an assault toward the woman while swiftly changing my artes weapon into a sword type that can be easily carried.

When I reached her, I didn't hesitate to finish her by sliding my sword straight through her back.

"You have to understand, it had to be this way...We have to—."

She crumpled to the floor before I could finish. A pool of red slowly spread across the floor. I gingerly stepped around it, releasing my barrier artes as I gave an embrace to the kid who is trembling in fear.

"Sigh. You, okay?"

"Y-yes. Thank you, Sister!"

This child's eyes were swollen with weeping.

"Ugh..."

Even though I didn't want to, my artes was deactivated by itself. My hair came back to normal, black. To be honest, I'm exhausted, I don't feel like continuing this but, I heard that the examination has three phases. If this is the second one, then there will be a third. I need to survive until then, it's not only me but also the kid I'm with.

"How are you holding?" I heard the guy's voice behind me, most likely; he is done with slaughtering.

"We did it!" and the girls on the other side were just cheery. That I had noticed it because they were loud.

I was panting, weary of using my artes for a long time now. "I-I'm good." My sight was blurry, but I couldn't let him see my weakness. I don't know what the third examination is but if we are at enmity with each other. It won't be good for me or even for this child.

"Glad to hear that."

The guy sneaked a slightly relieved expression. I shifted my eyes in another direction though, he was friendly all of a sudden and it was creeping me out.

A sound from a descending huge screen suddenly made a rough noise that piqued our attention. All of us took a sight at the screen, and it appears that the bastard president has something to say.

"Excellent!" He began by complimenting us, "Out of 50 there are only 23 lefts, huh! It is sad to see that the deaths can't be avoided in this examination but I'm glad that 23 of you are still alive." He doesn't even sound grieving for the loss.

What kind of bullshit is he trying to show us?

"The final exam will be difficult. So, I hope everyone is not exhausted yet, or it will cost your lives on the line!"

I'm tired of listening to the nonsense things he has to say every time. I gripped my fist in anger, "Sigh." I want to smack his face—.

Hence, a sudden flying sword strikes the screen causing an explosion.

My eyes widened when I realized that the flying sword belongs to this guy on my side. For a moment there was silence between humans, only the debris from the broken screen resonated.

"You did that?" I tilted my head through him, "Y-you really did that?" and started riling him up.

He just pushed my face, "You're not the only one who got an issue with that old hag."

His words were convincing enough that he was the culprit, it's not that it bothered me though. He was somewhat, "Cool!"

The word was just in my head. But the kid exclaimed it with zest, "Brother! You're so cool!"

Finally, the system gave out the last warning we will hear for this examination.

"Alert. Please prepare yourself for the final test." —The system has spoken.
