Squad

The sun has already set and a crescent moon could be seen hung high up in the sky. At this time, in the wilderness, it was difficult to see anything clearly due to the mist. Barely any sound could be heard in the jungle which gave people an eerie feeling.

At this time, few shadows were flashing between the canopies, the shadows were pretty agile and moving to a pre-determined direction at a fast pace. They were careful to move only in the shadows and not exposing themselves to the moonlight, which made it difficult to guess their identities.

There were a total of four shadows travelling in a loose formation.

After, travelling for about fifteen minutes, the shadows came to a stop and hid themselves in the canopy. They didn't dare to make any sound and observed their surroundings carefully.

"All clear, let's move."

After five minutes of observation, not finding anything erroneous, one shadow spoke and they continued to advance . While proceeding, faint moonlight fell on a figure at the back, illuminating his handsome but immature facial features.

This person was obviously the protagonist of our story, Bai chen.

His face had a serious expression but a hint of nervousness flashed in his eyes.

It can't be helped, it was his first time participating in a war, so it was normal. Not just Bai chen, every one who participated in a war for time would be nervous no matter how much he/she prepared himself.

For now, Bai chen is using night vision and thermal detection simultaneously so that the night and mist wouldn't hinder his sight and asked chip to look out for traps and possible ambush sites near him. Bai chen wouldn't be arrogant enough to think that he could survive in a battlefield without the help of chip.

Shinobi's, if they could, they would avoid direct confrontation with their enemy. Instead, they would heavily rely on traps or ambushes to weaken their enemy or even kill them in one go if they could.

Bai chen would be an idiot if he thinks that he could survive all of the ambushes and traps with his meagre strength. He would die without even knowing who killed him.

To survive, he has to give his best. With chip's help at least he confident that he can avoid many dangerous situations.

With Bai chen there were three other people, two boys and one girl. Among the boys, one was 12 years old and other was of same age as Bai chen while the girl was six years old.

Bai Zang was 12 years old and he was leading the team, the girl name was Bai Fen and the boy with same age as Bai chen was Bai Yang.

Bai chen previously did vaguely mentioned that he had two peers around his age who were the closest to him, one being Bai Ann and the other was none other than Bai Yang.

Bai Yang was a ordinary clan member, he wasn't a genius and his strength was average. According to his talent, reaching chunin rank should be his limit and it would be difficult for him to even reach the rank of elite chunin if he only rely on himself.

Of cource, Bai chen would definitely help him out. Previously, he couldn't teach Bai Yang with Bai Ann because first Bai Yang wasn't at the clan land and when he returned, Bai chen forgot to bring him along.

'Well, I will teach him the breathing technique when we return from the battlefield.' thought Bai chen.

For now, the group of four were surveying the surrounding area, making sure that no enemy were present to make an an expected ambush during night. The area which they were responsible of surveying was the eastern side of the rear camp. If enemies were spotted then they have to immediately send signal for help.

The rear camp was set at a little distance from the edge of Bai clan territory, edge where Bai clan and Karatachi Family territories meet. There are two camps set up by Bai clan, first is main camp where all of Bai clan combatants are, it is located at the very edge of their territory and the other is rear camp where logistics are stored.

The task like serveillance of this rear camp were borne by kids like them, this is of course to train their skills. For newbie like them, some one experienced is required to lead them and Bai Zang was there to fill in that space.

He has been on the battlefield since he was six, moreover he was also possessed strength of a chunin, he was perfect for the role of leading the team.

It took more than a hour for the squad to finish 2/3 of the area which they were allotted, there was still 1/3 portion left but Bai Yang and Bai Fen were too tired to continue so they decide to rest for five minutes. These five minutes wasn't enough for both of them to fully recover but they really couldn't afford to extend their break, they were given one and half hour to complete the task and then have to report to the camp in the allotted time and they can't delay it. In war being on time was very important.

Bai chen was fine, although he was also consumed but it wasn't as much as Bai Yang and Bai Fen and he recovered quickly thanks to the breathing technique and all the hard work he put into exercising his body.

Five minutes passed soon and the ground continued their inspection, it looked like they could finish their task today without much efforts but it wasn't even four minutes into their search when the chip discovered something.

[Beep! Found traces of unnatural activity in the area.]

When Bai Chen heard the chip's prompt, he stopped and looked at the direction where the chip pointed, his muscles were tense and his heartbeat became faster. Bai Zang and others also noticed Bai Chen's sudden action and asked him-

"What's wrong, is there something in that direction?"
