Chapter 30

Jack's jaw hardened as he turned to the voice of the troublemaker.

'Damn!' he muttered to himself in annoyance.

Jack looked away for a moment. It wasn't David's cursing that upset him, but the presence of those people that could threaten tonight's beautiful moment.

'Why did they have to come now?’

Swearing to anything, Jack was immune to any kind of cursing. He had become accustomed to it long before he even knew his true identity. However, tonight was different. He had invited Audrey to accompany him, and he couldn't help but wonder if she had dressed up all pretty and elegant just to subject herself to the insults of those people.

Despite his usual immunity, Jack felt uneasy as he led Audrey into the gathering. He couldn't understand why he had to meet with those annoying people again, especially when they were all gathered in full force, making it all the more of a nuisance.
