002: General Segun

Tyrone had a bored look on his face as he shifted from one side of the carriage to the other, honestly he had not been given much Attention during this entire journey, and while he was very grateful for that, he had also not been allowed to be anywhere else other than the carriage.

Even when they had to stop in towns and other cities in order to rest or when they had to camp, Tyrone was kept isolated and completely ignored by the rest if the [Irí] but ultimately it was on the fourth day of their journey, just about a week from the capital as they had taking a roundabout route; that a man stepped into the carriage a hard look on his face as he held Tyrone’s gaze for a moment before bowing his head deeply.

Tyrone had no idea who the man was, but he was heavily built, with a bald head a face full with white beard. But beyond all that was the sheer feeling of power Tyrone could feel coming off him, this was a man who had power and who knew how to utilize it, but the question still remains though, who is this man anyways.

“My name is General Segun Castilian Agade, I am the current head of the [Irí] and as such it means I am responsible for your protection and at the behest of the regent your education. There is much you have to learn before we get to the capital, not all that you need to know, but enough that would ensure you remain alive within the first week of your arrival…. You are my superior and maybe one day my king, but I was told to treat and teach you like you have no choice or say over me.

It is not my place to overstep, but I will push you. and if you think I have gone too far, it is within your authority to put a stop to it. However, I guarantee if you choose such a path then all that awaits you at the end of it is death. So sire…. Are you willing to learn so that even if you can’t win you could at least survive, there’s a lot at stake right here than just the throne that’s your birthright?” Tyrone shook his head as he couldn’t help but say.

“I don’t want it, I never did, it sounds like all it will bring me is pain and sorrow.” Segun nodded his head as a smile crossed his face, something that at that moment Tyrone suspected was extremely rare.

“Then that means that at least you are not stupid. Because whether or not you sit on that throne, it is a position of power that will require you to keep giving until your final breath, its gloomy and as they say, heavy is the head that wears the crown. But like all things in life we really don’t get to choose…. This is what’s in your future.”

Tyrone nodded, if there was one thing he always had going for him was the fact that he was not overly emotional or naïve. In the stories you would hear about how hard the hero fights to not be in a position of power, and his running away from responsibility usually ends with too many people dying or shit going wrong until he or she is ready to ace their destiny. Tyrone was a street rat, a common thief with the bloodline of gods…. this was an opportunity.

And while he was not so naïve as to believe that he would be able to outmaneuver everyone else and build something of his own. He knew an opportunity when he sees it. This was a good chance to carry out the biggest heist of his career, of his life or in the history of this world. while steal jewels when you can steal a whole kingdom…. Or at least try to do so.

“What will you teach me?” Tyrone asked as he sat up straight, if not for anything but to stave off the boredom that was currently driving him crazy.

“Everything, your opponents are way ahead of you in learning everything that comes with being nobility and being king or queen. But your life is about to become more than just politics. Power, magic, dungeons, cards, decks, levels and combat. I will have to spend the remaining time shoring up your basic knowledge so we will focus mostly on just history, swordplay, card knowledge and acquisition and etiquette. The regent will prepare tutors for you once we arrive along with a palace or barracks depending on where he decided to put you due to the current situation.”

“What about my Crew?” Tyrone asked with stern look on his face. It was his job to look after them, those kids looked up to him and there was no way in hell he would leave them to their fates.

“They have all been shipped to the academy to undergo training to become soldiers.” Tyrone’s eyebrows shot up, almost disappearing into his hairline as Segun continued.

“They are all connected to you, making them a liability. However just eradicating them all would make getting you to cooperate with the regent too hard, so we gave them all scholarships and access to best teachers in the kingdom. If they’re good enough some of them will end up like me, becoming an [Irí] for the throne, but either ways, they are now an asset to the kingdom and to you.”

Tyrone took a deep shuddering breath; he has always been someone who could see a lot of option available from just one opportunity. In a way you could say he was a fast thinker, both in taking in details and reacting to said details. Never the less having his crew stronger would be to his advantage, he was sure he would find a use for them eventually, but ultimately this meant he would not be alone and he a few extra cards to play.

But he did not want to be naïve, how was he even sure they were even alive, trusting a man he just met not more than 5 minutes ago, was not the kind of thing a smart person would do. Until such a time as he would confirm for himself that his crew was okay and he had access to them, he would not be lulled into a false sense of security, he was dealing with people who have been playing this game a lot longer than he has been alive, he was not winning and he was not one of them…. he was just a tool a pawn, and if he was not careful he could just as easily be discarded.

Segun watched on though with amusement all over his face, but of course none of that amusement could break through his stoic façade. The prince was a treat, and he was so happy that after all these years he has finally been found, it was a shame that the first person to do was the regent. But no matter, it did not mean that their plans had been derailed, the most important ingredient…. the last son of the main royal family bloodline had been found.

But he was on edge, the boy had lived too long on the streets that it had forged him into an untrusting person. However, it did not turn him into a stupid or naïve person. He was smart, sharp, focused and a realist. He did not have his head up in the clouds, though he was too honest for his own good. Tyrone thought himself shrewd or that he was well versed in keeping control of his emotions. But he was nothing to the eyes of a trained noble and killer, he really does give his wolf cat moniker justice.

“Well if you would pay attention to me I will begin our first lesson. We will be brushing up on the basics, and to do that we will have to foray a bit into the history of our world and why and how it is possible for us to do what we do. You have yet to reach level 10 and only have a small amount of cards boosting your stats and know nothing of the benefits that comes with reaching level 10.

So you will have to listen while I plug the holes in your knowledge base. And then if there are things you already understand from what I say, we will discuss it, if it is required we will practice, experiment and prove certain things within the grand scheme of knowledge that our world holds. Now I guess I should start from the beginning.”
