Payback

"Tell me when you are going to pay the money you borrowed from us with interest?" A dark blurry man asked.

The man was Vincent, a ruthless mafia in Candon city.

A few days ago, Roland's girlfriend; Debbie collapsed and he needed money to send her to the hospital.

Even though Debbie's family was rich, Roland didn't know her password so he was left with no option rather than borrowing an amount from Vincent, even though the interest rate was high.

Roland sighed in frustration and anger. He r wasn't expecting them to ask for their money so fast.

He glared at the mafia members angrily but they threw a death glare back after him.

Only if he had known his girlfriend's password.

"You need to calm down man...I'm not gonna run away!" Roland said as calmly as possible.

He didn't want to go say anything to anger these men. They would pull the trigger without hesitation.

"You lazy asshole, it is ten days now since you borrowed the money." One of the mafia members said, throwing the small lit cigarette in front of Roland.

The latter glared at them with disgust.

"I'm only asking for more days." Roland raised his hands above his head, surrendering to them.

These men were so annoying. Not that he used the money for gambling or something. Pttf!

"You got any money with you?" Vincent asked almost yelling.

"Not at all!' Roland dipped his hands into his pocket and brought out the inner cloth, proving to them that it was empty.

Days ago, Debbie got sick and passed out due to stress. She was a workaholic, nothing new for rich investors.

Roland was distressed, he took her to the hospital where he was asked to pay the sum of a hundred thousand dollars to save her life.

He wanted to call her parents or relatives but he wasn't able to do so because her phone was locked and he didn't know the password to unlock it.

This woman met so much to him that he had to go save her life by borrowing from a high-rate loan.

Unfortunately, Debbie recovered and was sent home after being discharged. She dumped him and refused to give him the money back when he asked for it.

"You're a man, you need to work hard and pay up the bills!" She said with a mocking tone.

Roland assured the small mafia boss that he was going to take the money back from Debbie at all costs.

"Since she's all back to her feet, I'm going to put a call through her," Roland said with so much confidence.

He didn't know the kind of woman he was dating. So pathetic!

The small mafia boss nodded in approval and passed the phone to him.

"Go ahead, put it call on loudspeaker. We all wanna hear it." He glanced at his other members, waiting for their response to what he said and they all nodded in agreement.

Before dialing Debbie's number, Roland wasn't sure of what her reaction could be. He just had to try his luck.

Fortunately for him, Debbie answered the phone. Seeing the caller ID on her screen made her frown.

What does this pathetic being want from her?

"Yes, how may I help you?" She seemed impatient but Roland didn't give a shit about how she sounded over the phone.

He was after the money and any emotional feelings can be dealt with later.

"Debbie, I need the sum of two hundred dollars for the debt I owed." Roland calmly spoke to her while the mafia gangs listened patiently to their conversation.

"Two hundred what?!" Debbie yelled angrily.

"Yes Debbie, you heard me right. I need to pay back the debt. I used the money for your hospital bills remember?"

He tried to reason with her but she was being unreasonable.

"Roland, come to think of it, I didn't ask for your help. I didn't beg you to go save me at that time." Debbie said mockingly.

Her words sank deep into his ears and the mafia members gasps in awe.

Aren't they couples?

"Ten days ago, you told me you were owing a debt of a hundred thousand dollars and now you've doubled it!" Debbie's words were heading somewhere and Roland didn't want to hear what she'll say next.

"You're a liar Roland, a golddigger!" Debbie continued...it was obvious she was trying to mock him.

Roland couldn't believe his ears.

He was in this debt because he was trying to go save her.

He did everything because of her. Roland was in deep thought but the sharp voice from the phone disrupted his thoughts.

"You're a man Roland. Go make a living!" Debbie gently spoke with a hint of mockery in her tone.

Before Roland could explain himself and his predicament, she already hung up.

The warehouse was tense. Roland was so desperate but his face remained expressionless, which made him even calmer.

He heaved a sigh before turning to face the small mafia boss who shook his head in disappointment.

"I've been betrayed by the woman I tried to save her life and I got nothing to pay back." He spoke honestly as there was no hope left for him.

"What are we gonna do to you now?!" The small mafia boss spoke impatiently.

"You can pull the trigger on me. I don't mind. Sell my body parts to regain the funds." Roland heaved a sigh before sundering fully to them.

The small mafia boss's lips twitched. He laughed out loud as his voice echoed in the empty warehouse.

"Desperate huh? But we must do what we ought to do. As for selling your body parts, we'll make cool cash from that."

He took a knife from one of the gang members' bags. The knife was clear as crystal.

Roland gulped harder waiting for his death.

"My time has come!" He murmured, shutting his eyes tightly. He had trusted the wrong person.

"Guys, we got some body parts to sell." The small mafia bosses chuckled evilly before placing the sharp knife on Roland's throat.

Before he could proceed, the gate of the warehouse was knocked open, a white light flashed inside everyone was scared as to what may have caused it.
